The French Ligue 1 season 2019-20 has rolled out this past week, marking the start of the title race in the top French football tiers. The reigning champion, Paris Saint-Germain, is the main candidate for the title, while other rivals such as Monaco and Lyon will seek for their chance to disturb the Parisians’ plans for this season. 

Monaco and Lyon presented the biggest match on the opening day on Friday, which ended with a 0-3 win for the visitors. The scoring was opened early in the 5^th minute by Lyon’s striker Moussa Dembele and then 25 minutes later one of the most experienced players in Monaco, Cesc Fabregas was shown a yellow card after a rough start over Leo Dubois, only to be reverted into a red card after the referee consulted the VAR system. After that red card, Lyon extended their lead to 0-2 before halftime and finished the job before the end, scoring the third goal. 

The title defenders PSG had an easy opening day against Nimes, the newly promoted team from Ligue 2 by winning 3-0 with the goals from Edison Cavanni, Angel Di Maria and Kylian Mbappe.
