Despite playing for four other franchises, legendary back Frank Gore always stated that he wanted to retire as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. On Friday, Gore got his wish by signing a one-day contract with the franchise and will end his career with the team that drafted him back in 2005.

Gore, who last played in 2020, will also be honored with induction into the 49ers’ Edward DeBartolo Sr. Hall of Fame. The ceremony will be held during one of the games in the 2022 NFL season.

“Frank had to overcome many challenges upon entering the NFL and now leaves the game not only as one of the best backs in NFL history but one of the best football players ever.”

Gore spent the first decade of his career in San Francisco. During that time, he played in 148 games, rushing for 11,073 yards and 64 touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl five times and was selected to the All-Pro team once. The 39-year-old player holds several notable 49ers’ franchise records, including most rushing yards in a career and most rushing yards in a game (212).

Gore left the 49ers after the 2014 season and went on to play for the Indianapolis Colts, the Buffalo Bills, the Miami Dolphins, and the New York Jets. His 241 career games are the most by a running back in the history of the NFL.

The time has come for the legendary running back Frank Gore to say goodbye to the NFL as an active player. Gore announced his decision to retire, saying he would do so as a member of the San Francisco 49ers. The 38-year-old player will sign a one-day deal with the 49ers to make that happen.

Gore revealed his plans while doing an Instagram Live interview over the weekend.

“We’re still trying to figure out when I’m going to do my one-day contract. To sign, do my retirement,” Gore explained.

Gore most recently played in 2020, making 14 starts with the New York Jets. Despite his age, he still managed to put together a productive season that saw him rush for 653 yards and two touchdowns.

Despite his retirement decision, Gore still intends to remain involved in football. One of the ways he could do that is by taking the front office role with San Francisco as a talent evaluator.

“I love looking at talent. I love evaluating talent, and I love ball,” he added.

Frank Gore entered the league as 49ers’ third-round pick in 2005 and ended up spending 10 years with the organization. He later entered the journeyman phase of his career, suiting up for the Indianapolis Colts, the Miami Dolphins, the Buffalo Bills, and the Jets.

He rushed for 16,000 yards throughout his career, which puts him at No. 3 on the NFL’s All-Time rushing leaders list. He also has 100 rushing touchdowns and while his 241 games played are the most in league history. In addition, Gore made the Pro Bowl five times in his career.

Frank Gore isn’t tired of running through NFL defensive lines even if he is about to turn 37 this month. The veteran running back decided to return for his 16th NFL season in 2020, signing a one-year deal with New York Jets.

Gore spent 2019 with Buffalo Bills, contributing with 599 rushing yards and two touchdowns while adding 13 receptions for 100 yards. Bills decided not to bring him back, and the player reportedly considered retirement before  Jets came calling.

The news was made public by Gore’s agent Drew Rosenhaus and later confirmed to NFL Network by Jet’s defensive coordinator Greg Williams.

“I absolutely love that we signed him! His leadership will be huge for us. I have tremendous respect for him as a player and competitor,” said Williams. “He’s one of the best I’ve had to game plan against!”

Frank Gore already has a Hall of Fame-worthy career, ranking third all-time in rushing yards with 15,347 yards and fourth in yards from scrimmage with 19,243 yards. The five-time Pro Bowler was also recently selected to NFL 2010s All-Decade Team.

Jets signed Gore just days after the team’s head coach Adam Gase told the media that he is looking to “lessen the load” on their starting RB Le’Veon Bell. Considering Jets’ lack of backfield depth beyond Bell, Gore might get called up more than anyone expects in 2020.

After being shut down for the rest of the 2018 season due to a sprained foot, it had seemed like Miami Dolphin’s running back Frank Gore might be heading to retirement. But, according to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, the doctors now determined that Gore won’t require surgery on his foot and will be back to full action in a few weeks.

After finding out this news, Gore, who is currently the oldest active RB in the league at the age of 35, is determined to play in 2019, which would be his 15th NFL season.

Frank Gore signed with the Dolphins in March 2018 and immediately established himself as the team’s leading rusher. In the 14 games he played this season, he had team-high 156 carries for 722 yards, averaging 4.6 yards per carry.

Although he will be an unrestricted free agent in the offseason, Gore would prefer to return to Miami in 2019 according to ESPN‘s Cameron Wolfe. Dolphins, on the other hand, would prefer to wait and see how will the player bounce back after the injury.

We haven’t gotten there yet,” – said Miami’s head coach Adam Gase recently when asked about the possibility of Gore returning next season. “Right now, [missing a game is] really hard for him to just really swallow at this point.”

Frank Gore entered the league as the third round pick for the San Francisco 49ers in 2005. During his 10 years with the 46ers, he rushed for more than 1,000 yards eight times and managed to earn five Pro-Bowl appearances.

Gore, who also played for Indianapolis Colts between 2015 and 2017, is currently ranked fourth for most rushing yards in NFL history with 14,748 yards. His other career stats include 77 rushing touchdowns, and 3,796 receiving yards alongside 18 receiving touchdowns.

Veteran running back Frank Gore is returning to Miami, after spending his college football career there. According to reports, the 34-year-old has agreed to a one-year deal with the Miami Dolphins after Indianapolis Colts declined to renew his contract in the offseason.

Gore played in all games for the Colts in the 2017 season, and finished with 261 carries for 961 yards adding three touchdowns in the process. This means he was just 39 yards short of having his 10th 1,000 yards NFL season. He also added 245 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

Gore spent four years playing for the Miami Hurricanes and won the BCS national champion in 2001, before entering the 2005 NFL Draft. San Francisco 49ers drafted him in the third round and he ended up playing for them until 2014. After a mediocre rookie season, he exploded with career-high 1,695 yards in his second season and established himself as team’s starting running back. He ended his stint with the 49ers as franchise’s career rushing yards and rushing touchdowns leader. He also had five Pro-Bowl appearances and received Second-team All-Pro honors in 2006.

After the 2014 season wrapped up, Gore joined Indianapolis Colts on a three year, $12 million deal. Although the team intended to pair him their emerging star quarterback Andrew Luck, that never materialized in full, since Luck was often hurt.

Frank Gore will enter his 14th NFL season on the fifth spot on the NFL’s career rushing list. He needs 76 yards in order to pass former Patriots and Jets RB Curtis Martin on the fourth spot.
