Inter Miami’s roster will feature two players with the name Higuain on their back for the remainder of the 2020 MLS season. Inter announced over the weekend that they have acquired Federico Higuain in a trade with DC United, pairing the veteran midfielder with his brother Gonzalo.

According to reports, Federico expressed his wishes to play with his younger brother, and United decided to honor it despite viewing the 35-year-old midfielder as a valuable member of their locker room due to his extensive MLS experience. They will receive $50,000 in general allocation money (GAM) as part of the deal.

Federico Higuain spent eight years playing with Columbus Crew, making 210 appearances between 2012 and 2019, and scoring 59 goals in the process. He joined DC United ahead of the 2020 MLS season as a coach and a player, suiting up 10 times for the organization. 

“Federico has been a great player in this league,” said Miami’s sporting director Paul McDonough. “We were thrilled to add more attacking depth, experience, and playmaking ability to our roster when this opportunity presented itself.”

Inter previously acquired Gonzalo Higuain in a blockbuster move in September. The younger of Higuain brothers made four appearances in MLS so far, scoring once and delivering one assist.

Miami is currently sitting at No.12 in Eastern Conference, one point behind the Finals series play-off spot.
