Premier League club Everton has decided to part ways with manager Frank Lampard, sources close to the matter revealed on Monday. This decision comes as the team looks to dig its way out of the relegation battle.

Under Lampard’s leadership, the Toffees lost nine of their last 12 games, leaving them in 19th position on the league table. The club has reportedly already begun the process of searching for a replacement.

Currently, the club is considering former Wolves boss Nuno Espírito Santo, who currently coached Saudi Pro League side Al Ittihad, as well as former Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa. Former Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl is also up for consideration.

Lampard has struggled in his role at Everton since being appointed manager on January 31 of last year. Despite struggling to find form, Lampard was able to help Everton avoid relegation in the final weeks of last season.

The last two weeks have seen Everton lose to two fellow relegation candidates. Everton lost 1-2 at home to Southampton last week before losing 2-0 away at West Ham United on Saturday.

Everton’s game on Sunday with Tottenham, which ended in a 1-1 draw at Goodison Park, was overshadowed by a serious leg injury suffered by midfielder Andre Gomes in the second half of the match.

Gomes, who was signed by the Toffees after one loan season over the summer for $28.5 million, was forced to leave the game after a challenge by Tottenham’s Son Heung-min.

In the 79th minute of the game, as Gomes attemped to go down the wing of the field to start an attack, the South Korean forward attempted a slide tackle to dislodge the ball from the Portuguese midfielder.

Gomes lost his balance and fell into the leg of Tottenham right back Serge Aurier, causing his right leg to suffer a blow.

A six-minute stoppage caused a hush to fall over the stadium as Gomes writhed on the ground in pain, with his leg bent in an unnatural way, before he was stretchered off of the pitch.

Heung-min was shown a red card for the tackle and was sent off for the challenge.

Gomes was transported to the hospital and is being evaluated by physicians before the club announces any more specifics about the unfortunate injury.

Jamie Vardy scored the Premier League’s first goal of 2019 as Leicester beat Everton 1-0 at Goodison Park on Tuesday.

In a low-quality match that displayed Everton’s poor form, Vardy took advantage of errors from Theo Walcott and teammate Ricardo Perreira to score the game’s first goal in the 58th minute.  Vardy celebrated in his usual somersault manner before resuming with the search for a second game.

The game ended 1-0, allowing Leicester to celebrate their third win in the last one month. The 2016 EPL champions beat Chelsea and Manchester City over the festive season, solidifying their position in the top half of the EPL table.

Everton have only won once in the last eight matches and were awful for the better part of Tuesday’s game. They only had one serious attempt at the goal, but made a little bit more effort in the first half compared to the second.

Coach Marco Silva described the game as “a stranger afternoon” and “disappointing.”

“It was a strange afternoon for us, the coach said. “It was a disappointing result and not a good performance. We wanted to give good feelings to our fans and we didn’t achieve that.”

Despite their poor performance, Everton are ranked 10th on the EPL table while Leicester moved up one position to rank seventh.

A new manager is keen to stamp his authority on a new club. To make his mark, and mold the team into his vision of a successful future.

Player trading is an integral part of this process and every transfer carries an inherent risk. Will a player bought be as good as before? Will one sold be a star of the future elsewhere?

Everton, with more money than most clubs in the Premier League, knows those risks all too well. Last season, they lacked astuteness in the transfer market. Today, many fans question whether the club has taken further leave of its senses as the announced the capture of Richarlison, a 21-year-old Brasilian striker, from Watford in a $55m deal.

Richarlison joined Watford at the start of the 2017-18 from Fluminense in a $15m deal. He started brightly; enthusiastic and energetic, he grabbed three goals in his first seven appearances, as well as an assist. Watford appeared to have dug out a gem.

He carried on in a similar vein of form, scoring his fifth goal in 12 appearances against West Ham in November 2017.  An assist a month later was his last telling contribution to the season and by May, he registered five goals in forty appearances, with four assists.

Yet Everton chose to spend $55m on a player whose statistics barely justify a fifth of that total. It’s a huge vote of confidence from Marco Silva, the Everton coach appointed in May. He managed Richarlison at Watford and got the best form of the season of the striker. If he doesn’t get a similar response, the Portuguese may once again find himself terminated before Christmas.

Sam Allardyce was appointed as Everton manager late last year when the club was flirting with relegation.

”Big Sam” did manage to successfully navigate the Toffees out of the danger zone and to a comfortable finish. Despite this, many fans have not been impressed by the style of play used by the club and would like to see a fresh manager arrive at Goodison Park next term. This has led to speculation that Big Sam could be sacked this summer.

Owner of the club Farhad Moshiri is now looking at alternative candidates and former Watford manager Marco Silva and Shakhtar Donetsk’s Paulo Fonseca are understood to be the leading candidates.

In response, Allardyce commented: “You have to survive by results. If you play attractive football and lose every game, you get sacked. There’s nothing wrong with our style of play because it suits the players. My job as always is to get better players because then we play more attractive football. You can only deal with the tools and players you have available at the time.”

Everton youngster Nikola Vlasic has vowed to make a breakthrough next season after a disappointing first season in English football.

Vlasic joined the Toffees last summer but struggled to break into the first team of the club during the season. Though the 20-year-old played this weekend as the club drew 1-1 against Southampton, this was the first time that he played at Goodisan Park since January.

He only managed to score two goals from 19 appearances this season which is not impressive. Both of his goals also came against Apollon Limassol.

Despite a frustrating first season, Vlasic believes that he has managed to learn a lot.

He said: “I hope next season will be my season.”

“If you are not in the team, it is up to you to work hard and wait for your chance.

“Of course you expect that competition for places. With so many good players, you need to fight for your position. I expected that and I knew it would be hard. But I think better days are coming for me.

“I was always training hard, waiting for my chance. When I played before I thought I played well and I think I have adapted well enough to English football. Of course, I can be better but this is my first season here and it was always going to be hard coming into the Premier League. But I hope next season will be my season.”

Everton defender Seamus Coleman was left frustrated after his side played out to a draw against Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

As Liverpool are prioritizing their upcoming Champions League second-leg clash against Manchester City, the derby gave the Toffees a good opportunity to get one over their city rivals.

However, it was Jurgen Klopp’s side who was dominant on the day. Everton only seemed to come to life during the final 15-minutes but Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Cenk Tosun went on to miss the chances which they managed to create.

The club have now not defeated Liverpool during their past 17 encounters against them.

Seamus Coleman said about the game: “We felt Liverpool would be happier than us with a point but we started slowly and did not get to grips with the game. But in the second half, we got tighter, pressed people more and played on the front foot. We are disappointed not to have come away with more after the chances we had at the end. Dominic is disappointed but he will work on that and I could have maybe got my toe on one at the end. It was a clean sheet against a good Liverpool side, though, and to get the fans behind us we need to play from the first minute. They react to us and if we are getting in amongst people you can see how positive the atmosphere is. Our two center-halves were very good. Jags (Phil Jagielka) was immense and played a like a captain and leader. We owe it to ourselves and the fans and everyone at the club to finish as high up the table as we can.”

Former Liverpool star Craig Bellamy spoke out about how he thinks that Everton has gone wrong this season.

The Toffees endured a disappointing start to the season and ended up parting ways with former manager Ronald Koeman. After spending heavily during the summer transfer window, many ardent fans of the club would have been hoping that they could challenge for a place in the top four but that was not to be. Since taking over the club, veteran manager Sam Allardyce has guided the Merseysiders out of the relegation zone and into mid-table.

However, the brand of football which the club has been playing has not been impressive and many are still not convinced that Allardyce is the right candidate to lead the club going forward.

What it (victory over Liverpool) would do to lift Sam Allardyce (let alone the team) at this present moment,” – Bellamy told The Debate.

Look, Everton’s a good football club, got very good footballers, but it just hasn’t been (good), from the start of the season I thought their recruitment wasn’t great. They don’t have as much pace in the team as I’d like, a lot of good footballers but that attacking threat, people who can just run by people, run off people, running without the ball. Recruitment is huge (this summer).”

They don’t have as much pace in the team as I’d like, a lot of good footballers but that attacking threat, people who can just run by people, run off people, running without the ball. Recruitment is huge (this summer).”
