As always, the final hours before the NBA trade deadline were hectic and saw teams scrambling to improve their rosters. One of the most active teams was the Los Angeles Clippers, who made several deals to improve their depth in several positions.

The most notable trade the Clippers pulled off was acquiring veteran guard Eric Gordon from the Houston Rockets. Regarded as a great defensive player and reliable three-point shooter, Gordon was mentioned in trade talks ever since the Rockets started their rebuild, but Houston’s asking price proved to be too much for interested teams.

The Clippers finally managed to get the Rockets to cave on Thursday, orchestrating a 3-team deal that also included the Memphis Grizzlies. The Clippers received Gordon and three second-rounders while sending shooting guard Luke Kennard to the Grizzlies and veteran John Wall and pick swap rights to Houston. The Rockets also received veteran Danny Green from the Grizzlies.

Gordon is expected to improve the Clippers’ second unit and bring his playoff experience to the team. The former sixth-man of the year proved valuable in the postseason runs during the James Harden era in Houston and is averaging 16.0 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game in the playoffs.

For Wall, this is a return to the franchise that released him just this past summer. The same scenario is expected to happen in the following days, as the Rockets reportedly have no interest in keeping Wall on the team.

Considering the youth movement in Houston, it is only a matter of time before the Rockets move on from veteran guard Eric Gordon. And according to New York Post’s Marc Berman, that time might be now with the New York Knicks emerging as a strong contender to land the 32-year-old.

Berman reports that the Knicks have been internally discussing a potential trade for Gordon for a while now, viewing him as a valuable contributor who could solve their offensive problems and add reliable 3-point shooting. The New York team is having a rough start of the season, which sees them sitting at No. 12 in the Eastern Conference with a 13-16 record, and believes a player like Gordon could make an immediate impact.

The Rockets, on the other hand, wouldn’t mind getting some assets in return for Gordon. While he’s highly respected by the franchise, the Rockets are currently rebuilding and want to give their younger players a chance. Moving Gordon would open up valuable minutes and allow them to get a better look at some of their prospect. Getting draft capital or another young player is just a bonus.

If the Knicks pull off a trade for Gordon, they won’t just be a better team but will also make their point guard Derrick Rose happy. The two go way back, having played together in Amateur Athletic Union with the Mean Streets Express. Rose even tried to team up with Gordon during his first stint in New York, but Gordon chose to join the Rockets in free agency instead.

Gordon played 24 games for the Rockets this season and is currently averaging 14.7 points, 1.8 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game.

Houston Rockets won’t have their guard Eric Gordon for the resume of the 2019/20 NBA season. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Gordon is dealing with an ankle injury that will see him miss up to two weeks.

Gordon suffered the injury during the Rockets’ 137-112 scrimmage win against Boston Celtics on Tuesday. The 31-year-old guard attempted a jump pass and landed awkwardly on his left foot.

Gordon will be re-evaluated next Wednesday, but Rockets remain optimistic as the X-rays returned negative, showing no structural damage.

Despite his struggles in 2019/20, Gordon supposed to play a big part for the Rockets in the restart as the team tries to make a title run.

“Of course Eric is a huge part of what we’re doing and what we’re trying to do,” said Houston’s All-Star James Harden. “Hopefully he can get his ankle healed as soon as possible, but just like we’ve dealt with adversity all year, it’s about having guys step up.”

Rockets’ head coach Mike D’Antoni told reporters that Ben McLemore and Danuel House Jr. are in the mix to start in the opening game against Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

Eric Gordon managed to play just 34 games with Houston this season, as he dealt with several injuries. He is currently averaging 14.5 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 1.5 assists per game, all career-worst since joining Rockets in 2016.

Houston Rockets definitely had their ups and downs in the 2019/20 NBA season. Rockets were able to beat the toughest opponents on one night and lose the game they were favored in the next. According to their sixth man Eric Gordon, this inconsistency is the reason why the team never reached their peak.

In a recent chat with Cayleigh Griffin of SportsNet Southwest, Gordon said that this is the most inconsistent team he played on since joining the franchise.

“I’ve got to be honest,” said Gordon. “We’ve had a lot of highs and lows this year. This being my fourth year with this team, we’ve had more highs and low moments more than any year that I’ve been here.”

Gordon added that despite their talent, Rockets failed to be great for an extended period, which is a trait of championship-winning teams.

“The toughest thing, for as talented as our team is, we’ve really never reached our peak,” he explained. “We might have reached our peak for a game or two. When teams win the championship, those teams are always consistent, and they’re always dominant. We’ve shown that we can be dominant for games, but we haven’t been that consistent all year.”

Eric Gordon played his role in Rockets’ inconsistency as he missed 30 games so far in the season due to knee injury. When Gordon is on the floor, he is Rockets’ third-best scorer but not especially efficient. He is shooting 37.0 percent from the field and 31.9 percent on three-pointers in 2019/20 compared to his career percentages of 42.5 and 37.0 respectively.

Houston Rockets were without both James Harden and Russell Westbrook on Monday night against Utah Jazz, but it didn’t matter in the end. In the absence of the team’s superstars, Eric Gordon stepped in and scored 50 points to lead the Rockets to an unlikely 126-117 win.

Considering that the Rockets were playing a back-to-back game, Westbrook sat down as part of his load management. Harden was previously out with a thigh contusion, while the team was also short-handed on center, as starter Clint Capela dealt with a heel contusion. Jazz, on the other hand, were in full strength and have won 19 out of their last 21 games.

Despite this, Rockets managed to get off to a good start, playing with a small lineup that gave Utah a lot of problems. Houston was effective in getting to the free-throw line, shooting 49 free throws and making 35. Gordon, who finished the game with 50 points, six rebounds, three assists, and two steals, alone got to the 20 times, compared to Jazz’s 26 attempts as a unit.

Gordon was happy with his performance after the game, saying he was “getting back to being” himself after the knee surgery he had back in November.

“I feel like I’m getting back to being myself,” said Gordon. “I told everybody when you have surgery during the season, it’s always going to be a process.”

Austin Rivers and Danuel House Jr. also did their part, scoring 21 points each to lift the Rockets to 29-17 record.

Jazz, on the other hand, saw a big scoring night from Donovan Mitchell, who scored 36 points to go with three rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Bojan Bogdanovic added 30 points and two assists while Rudy Gobert had 12 points and 14 rebounds.

After an embarrassing loss to Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, Houston Rockets will look to get back on track soon. This will be much easier in the next few games, as their sixth man Eric Gordon is finally cleared to play after being out for almost two months.

Gordon hasn’t played since early November and had to undergo a minor knee procedure last month. He returned to practice on Friday after 22-games absence and is expected to play on Sunday against New Orleans Pelicans.

“It’s going to be a challenge. I don’t think it’s that hard because we have been playing the same way for so many years, and Eric is such a good player. He can adjust,” said Rockets’ All-Star guard Russell Westbrook about Gordon’s return.

Eric Gordon had an unusually slow start of the season, averaging career-lows all across the board. He has been contributing only 10.9 points and 1.9 rebounds, while having more turnovers (1.2) than assist (0.8). He also struggled from behind the 3-point arc, hitting just 30.9 percent of his threes.

Rockets hope that these struggles were caused by the injury and that Gordon will be back to his usual self soon. If that doesn’t happen, Houston then might have a hard time making some noise in the West.

The Houston Rockets have reportedly been given tough news on Tuesday, finding out that veteran guard Eric Gordon will miss about six weeks after suffering a knee injury that will require surgery.

Gordon has dealt with knee discomfort over the past couple of seasons, and his performance so far this season has been bad enough to lead the team to check into his knee. It turns out that an MRI has revealed that Gordon’s knee is full of debris that will need to be removed by a surgeon.

Doubts began to surge about Gordon’s health after the 30-year-old didn’t produce as expected in his first ten games of the year. Gordon is averaging only 10.9 points and 0.8 assists per game on a dismal mark of 31% from the field.

Rather than waiting, the team prefers to operate on Gordon’s knee now in order to have their key veteran guard ready for the stretch run and the playoffs rather than waiting.

Gordon should be able to return to the team around the holiday season.

In the meantime, Rockets coach Mike D’Antoni has announced that Chris Clemons, Ben McLemore, and Austin Rivers will see increased playing time during Gordon’s absence.

Houston Rockets decided not to let Eric Gordon hit the free market next summer and have signed the 30-year-old guard to a three-year extension. Gordon’s new deal was confirmed by Rockets’ general manager Daryl Morey on Wednesday.

Gordon, who is now tied to the organization through 2022/23 NBA season, will reportedly earn $54.5 million with this new deal. He also has a $20.9 million option for 2023/24 which will become guaranteed in case Rockets win an NBA championship or he manages to make the All-Star team.

“There’s no perfect organization. But Houston has a good following, great fans — a great city to play in. It makes it much easier, being on a winning team,” Gordon explained his decision to commit long term to Rockets. “I think since I’ve been here, we’ve never gone less than 54 wins. You definitely want to be a part of something like that, and it makes everything smoother. We’ve always had great coaches and good trainers; it makes the decision easier. Everyone wants to make the most money, but it makes it even better playing for a solid organization.”

Eric Gordon signed with the Rockets in 2016 as a free agent. Since then, he established himself as one of the team’s most important players and key contributor from the bench. During his three years in Houston, Gordon averaged 16.8 points per game while adding 2.4 rebounds and 2.2 assists as well. He also won NBA Sixth Man of the Year in 2017 and finished as a runner-up for the award in 2018.

Golden State Warriors managed to overcome Houston Rockets in the Western Conference Finals’ Game 7 and secured their fourth straight trip to the NBA Finals. But, that shouldn’t have been the case according to Rockets’ Eric Gordon who thinks his team would win the series if they had Chris Paul in Game 7. Paul missed last two games of the series due to a strained right hamstring.

It sucks because you know you could win this series if we just had one more playmaker,” – said Gordon on Monday night after Rockets’ 101-92 loss to Warriors. “If we had Chris, if he was out there, we’d have been playing on Thursday. It’s just tough.

It isn’t like Houston Rockets didn’t have a chance to win the game without Paul. They entered the second half of the Game 7 being 11 points ahead but had to watch their lead melting in the third quarter when they managed to score only 15 points compared to Warriors’ 33. It is also worth noting that the Rockets went ice cold from three-point range, hitting 7 out of their 44 attempts, which included missing 27 straight three-pointers in one period.

That’s what C.P. was so good at in two [of the] games we won,” – said Rockets’ coach Mike D’Antoni about the Warriors’ dominance in the third quarter. “They’d make a little run, he’d hit a 3. They make another run, and he makes another play. And you have to have those momentum changers and stoppers, and the last two games, we didn’t have them.

In the series against the Warriors, Chris Paul averaged 19.8 points, 4.6 rebounds, 6.8 assists and 1.8 steals per game.
