LA Galaxy made a big acquisition on Thursday, signing Argentinian left-back Emiliano Insua. The club announced the signing on their official social media, noting that Insua will occupy the team’s international roster spot.

Insua joins Galaxy after spending the previous five years with German side VfB Stuttgart. He notably played with Liverpool early in his career.

“Emiliano is an experienced defender who has played for decorated clubs throughout the world,” said LA Galaxy’s general manager Dennis te Kloese. “We think he will boost our team on the defensive side and will add a veteran presence to our club. We are glad to add Emiliano to our team and are excited that he will represent the LA Galaxy.”

Insua’s arrival to Galaxy was rumored for a while now with manager Guillermo Barros Schelotto making a push for the team to sign him. They both played for Boca Juniors at the same time back in 2007, when Insua was a youngster and Schelotto, a veteran at the back end of his career.

After spending his youth career at Boca, Emiliano Insua joined Liverpool, but failed to meet the expectations the club had for him. Insua made 44 appearances for the club between 2007 and 2011, before embarking on stints with Sporting CP, Atletico Madrid, and Rayo Vallecano.

Insua joined Stuttgart in 2015 and ended up making 135 appearances for the club while scoring three goals. He helped the team win 2. Bundesliga trophy in 2016/17.
