For the first time in a while, Barcelona fans have something to be cheerful about. Their club dominated bitter rivals Real Madrid in a 4-0 El Clasico win on Sunday night and it signaled better times for the struggling Catalan giants.

Real was a favorite entering the match, sitting comfortably at the top of La Liga’s table and having just eliminated Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League. However, Barca was more than ready to crash the party at the Bernabeu.

Gabon striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang opened the scoring for Barcelona in the 29th minute, scoring an uncharacteristic header after a cross from Ousmane Dembele. Ronald Araújo and Ferran Torres added a couple more in 38th and 47th minute, respectively, before Aubameyang scored another in 51st for 4-0. This turned out to be the game’s final result as Real was unable to do anything that would challenge Barca’s dominance.

The win, their first in El Clasico since 2019, got Barcelona got closer to moving up on the La Liga standings, as they are only three points behind Sevilla on No. 2 with a game in hand. But more importantly, it is another confirmation that the club finds itself on the right course under new head coach Xavi.

Barcelona is now undefeated in the past 12 games in all competitions and has nine wins during that span. They might not be able to challenge Real for the title in 2021-22, as the Madrid club already accumulated a 12-point lead, but there is no doubt that they have already regained their status as La Liga’s powerhouse.

Real Madrid claimed a massive 2-0 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu Stadium on Sunday night in their rivalry game against FC Barcelona, taking a one-point lead in the La Liga standings and making an important statement after a couple of deflating losses.

Los Blancos withstood a first-half barrage that saw keeper Thibault Courtois make several saves to keep Barcelona off of the scoreboard to find some second half magic thanks to goals from Vinicius Jr. and Mariano Diaz.

The win for Real Madrid was their first in league action over their bitter rivals since April of 2016.

78,357 stadiums packed into the Bernabeu to see a team that was coming off of a disappointing league loss to Levante that saw them lose the top spot in La Liga, as well as a disappointing 1-2 Champions League loss to Manchester City.

Things looked dicey in the first half as Quique Setien’s Blaugrana reached Courtois’s net, threatening to take the lead, but Real Madrid stood tall and then took over in the second half.

After seeing several chances fade out, Vinicius Jr. broke the 0-0 deadlock with a 71st-minute goal to put his team up by one score, sending the stadium into a frenzy.

Little-used substitute Mariano Diaz provided an insurance goal as time expired, giving Madrid a 2-0 win that propels them back into first place in the La Liga table.

FC Barcelona and Real Madrid played to a scoreless 0-0 draw at the Camp Nou on Wednesday night in an El Clásico matchup that was played two months later than originally planned.

This result keeps the two long-time rivals tied at the top of the La Liga standings just before the midway point of the season. Both Real Madrid and Barcelona have accumulated 36 points in 17 matches, and the league title remains completely up for grabs.

Real Madrid and Barcelona created plenty of goal chances on Wednesday night at Camp Nou, but neither team was ultimately able to get a shot past Marc-Andre ter Stegen or Thibault Courtois.

Zidedine Zidane’s team looked tactically superior to Ernesto Valverde’s squad, and they managed to create a wide variety of goal scoring opportunities. They ended up with seventeen shots (four on goal), but just couldn’t get past a solid performance by the Barcelona keeper.

Barcelona, who looked out of sorts and disconnected at times, didn’t create a huge amount of chances. The team’s only clear goal scoring opportunity was a beautiful Leo Messi setup pass to Jordi Alba, whose shot went wide just before halftime.

For now, La Liga’s top remains as tight as ever. Real Madrid hosts Athletic Bilbao on Sunday while Barcelona welcomes Alaves, and both teams will look to take an advantage in the title race in 2019’s last league game.

One of the biggest rivalry games in soccer, El Clásico between FC Barcelona and Real Madrid, ended in a 1-1 draw last night at the Camp Nou.

This represented the first leg of the two legs of the draw. The second leg will be played in Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu at the end of this month.

Barcelona, who did not use Lionel Messi as a starter in the game to surprise of some due to a slight thigh injury that he sustained the previous weekend, gave up the first goal of the game in only the 6th minute. After a cross by Vinicius Jr. found Karim Benzema, the French striker tapped the ball to Lucas Vázquez, who put the ball in the net.

Los Blancos maintained their lead until minute 57, when unheralded Brazilian striker Malcom scored a beautiful goal to beat Keylor Navas and knot the game up at 1.

Many assumed that Barcelona would be able to push another goal into the net after Lionel Messi was subbed on for Philippe Coutinho shortly after Malcom’s goal.

However, despite multiple chances for both squads, when the whistle blew at the end of the match, both teams went hope wondering what could have been after a 1-1 draw.

The draw is completely up in the air going into the second leg. On February 27, the two teams will meet in Madrid to decide who will move on to the Copa del Rey final in Seville.

Barcelona will be back in action on Sunday against Athletic Club, and Real Madrid has a crucial derby game against Atlético Madrid on Saturday.
