Manchester United have reached an agreement in principle with Eintracht Frankfurt over a loan deal for midfielder Donny van de Beek, sources revealed to ESPN. The Dutch midfielder is set to join Frankfurt in January until the end of the season.

While van de Beek has struggled to get game time over the past few seasons, with the current campaign proving no different, he may be required by United for their clash with Liverpool on Sunday night. Captain Bruno Fernandes will not be available due to a suspension while midfielders Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Mason Mount remain unavailable through injury.

Van de Beek was made available for transfer or loan during the summer as it became clear that he did not form a part of the plans of Man United manager Erik ten Hag. The midfielder has only made two appearances this season. Frankfurt are expected to pay a loan fee for the player, with an option for a permanent move included in the loan agreement.

Eintracht Frankfurt are the new Europa League champions. The Bundesliga club lifted the trophy on Wednesday night after defeating the Scottish side Rangers in the tournament finale via penalty shootout.

This is the first European trophy for Frankfurt since the 1979-80 season when they won the UEFA Cup—the competition that preceded the Europa League.

The match between Eintracht and the Rangers offered an entertaining first half, but neither team managed to get a goal despite chances on both sides. The deadlock was only broken in the 57th minute when a series of mistakes by the German side allowed Joe Aribo to pick up a loose ball and get the lead for the Rangers.

Frankfurt didn’t waste time from that point on and needed only 12 minutes to score an equalizer. Filip Kostic crossed the ball from the left side and found Rafael Borré, who managed to send the ball past Allan McGregor.

After the 1-1 score held up for the rest of regular time and extra time, Frankfurt and Rangers proceeded to penalty shootouts. Both teams were perfect in the first three series before Rangers’ Aaron Ramsey saw his penalty kick saved by Kevin Trapp. Kostic and Borré would go on to convert their penalties for Eintracht and kickstart a huge celebration among German fans.

With the match in Berlin, the Bundesliga debutants Union Berlin and Eintracht Frankfurt opened the 6th fixture of the German league. The match was played at Alten Forestei, with Frankfurt leaving the capital with all 3 points. The first half finished goalless, with both teams struggling to find the net.

However, unlike the first half, the second 45 minutes brought 3 goals, with Frankfurt scoring first through Bas Dost in the 48th minute. Surprisingly, Union Berlin had better ball possession then Frankfurt in the entire match. That ball possession brought nothing to Berlin, as Frankfurt scored their second goal in the 62nd minute through their new attacker Andre Silva, who is on loan from AC Milan.

The hosts pulled back after the goal, focusing on the defense until the end.  Anthony Ujah came off the bench for Union Berlin and pulled one goal back in the 86th minute, making the last 15 minutes a really tough job for the hosts. Berlin players made one final push in the stoppage time, but Frankfurt held off their attacks and left Berlin with 3 points. With this win, Frankfurt climbed to 7th place on the table, while Union Berlin is now 14th

It’ll be an all-English Europa League Final in Baku later this month after Chelsea and Arsenal took care of business on Thursday night.

Arsenal walloped Valencia in the second leg of their matchup against the Spanish giants. They already held a 3-1 advantage in the draw after their win in London last week, and they left little doubt as to who the superior team was after a 2-4 win at Mestalla.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang turned in yet another stellar performance, scoring a hat trick for the Gunners. Alexandre Lacazette, his striking partner, also added one for Arsenal. Kévin Gameiro’s two goals were simply not enough for Los Che.

In the other semi-final matchup, Chelsea had to go to penalty kicks to dispatch of Eintracht Frankfurt and advance to the final.

Chelsea took an early lead in the 28th minute with a Ruben Loftus-Cheek goal. However, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Luka Jovic tied the game with a goal just after halftime.

After neither team scored through 40 more minutes of regulation and 30 minutes of extra time, the match went to penalties. Eden Hazard scored the clinching goal to send his team forward after a 4-3 shootout win in what may end up being his last game at Stamford Bridge.

The final will be held on May 29th in Baku, Azerbaijan.

In the two first legs of the Europa League’s semi-final matchups, Arsenal grabbed an important home win and Chelsea picked up a valuable road draw.

Arsenal faced Valencia at home in the first leg of the teams’ matchup, and they left Emirates Stadium happy with a 3-1 victory.

Valencia tasted first blood after Mouctar Diakhaby scored a 10th-minute goal to give his team a 0-1 lead. Arsenal then scored three of its own, however, with Alexandre Lacazette bagging a brace before halftime.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scored a stoppage-time goal to sentence the encounter with a 3-1 final.

In the Chelsea matchup, they drew 1-1 with Eintracht Frankfurt on the road.

Eintracht Frankfurt found the net first when talented striker Luka Jovic scored in the 21st minute, but then Chelsea found the net after a Pedro goal to tie the game up just before the half.

The game ended with this 1-1 result, putting Chelsea in a favorable position to win and advance to the final in Baku.

The second leg of the matchups will be played next Thursday in Valencia and London, respectively.
