Texas Rangers’ pitcher Edinson Volquez announced over the weekend that he will end his baseball career following the end of 2019 MLB season. However, before he retires, Volquez wants to get out on the field a few more times.

Volquez suffered a right elbow strain in April and has been out since. While there is no indication when he could fully recover, the 36-year-old hopes it will be just in time for him to make several more pitches as a pro.

“I don’t want to go out like this,” – Volquez told reporters over the weekend. “If there is a chance, I can do it for two months or two weeks, why not. I’m not doing this to try and get a contract for next year. I just want to prove it to myself. If I can come out of the bullpen for the Rangers, that would be great.”

Edinson Volquez signed a minor deal with Texas Rangers back in 2018, spending the season recovering from Tommy John surgery. Rangers called Volquez to the majors for 2019, but he ended up making just two appearances before injuring his elbow.

Volquez has one World Series title in his career, which he won with Kansas City Royals in 2015, while he made one All-Star appearance in 2008 with Cincinnati Reds. His career stats include 93–87 record with 4.43 ERA and 1,316 strikeouts.
