After spending nine seasons with Seattle Seahawks, Pro Bowl safety Earl Thomas decided to move on and sign with the Baltimore Ravens back in March. And while Thomas’ exit from Seattle wasn’t on best of terms, the 29-year-old still hopes to wear Seahawks’ uniform once more before ending his career.

During his appearance on The Rich Eisen Show, Thomas said that he would like to return to Seattle one day and sign a ceremonial contract which would allow him to retire as a Seahawk.

“I envision myself retiring as a Seahawk,” – Thomas explain. “I would never burn a bridge there. You know, I still love my teammates. I definitely see myself signing maybe a one-day deal, and hopefully, they’ll hang my jersey in the rafters.”

There is plenty of reasons why the Seahawks might decide to honor Earl Thomas’ wishes when the time comes. During his time in Seattle, Thomas established himself as one of the best safeties in the league and helped the organization to win Super Bowl XLVIII. He also added to that six Pro Bowl appearances alongside three All-Pro honors.

Despite their success together, Earl Thomas and Seahawks decided to part ways in this offseason after the two sides couldn’t reach an agreement regarding a new contract. Thomas ended up securing a four-year, $55 million deal with the Baltimore Ravens.

“My feelings towards the organization at the time, I was very heated, very frustrated,” – he added. “But when you look at the blessing that the Ravens organization has believed in me and gave me this mega-deal, I put all the stuff behind me and start to focus immediately on my new teammates and the Ravens organization. But obviously, everything that we’ve been through (in Seattle), everything I gave to that team, I felt kind of disrespected. But I know it’s a business, I know they’ve got other guys they need to pay like Russ [Russell Wilson], Frank Clark, Bobby [Wagner], and they’re very deserving as well.”

Baltimore Ravens let several key players go during this offseason and it appeared like the team was oriented towards saving the money and try to get impactful players through the draft. But that all changed on Wednesday, when reports surfaced that Ravens will sign a duo of Pro Bowlers in former Seattle Seahawks’ safety Earl Thomas and New Orleans Saints’ running back Mark Ingram.

According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, Thomas will ink a four-year, $55 million contract with Baltimore that includes $32 million guaranteed. With his signing, the team fills one of their biggest needs at the safety position as they Eric Weddle.

Ingram, on the other hand, intends to sign a three-year, $15 million deal with the Ravens. The 29-year-old was expected to stay with the Saints following the end of 2018 season, but the team went and got former Minnesota Vikings RB Latavius Murray instead.

These two signings represent a big step in Baltimore Ravens’ efforts to rebuild their roster and make another playoff run in 2019. Besides releasing Weddle, the team also lost C.J. Mosley, Terrell Suggs and Za’Darius Smith in the free agency. All of these players were starters in Ravens’ defense which was ranked top in the NFL in 2018.

Earl Thomas spent his entire career with the Seattle Seahawks, but leaves the franchise on bad terms after he didn’t get a contract extension he wanted. He had a strong start of 2018 season, making three interceptions in the first four games, but ended up being ruled for the season after breaking a bone in his leg in Week 4. Thomas’ accomplishments with the Seahawks include six Pro Bowl appearances, three First-Team All-Pro honors and a Super Bowl title in 2013.

Mark Ingram played some excellent football in these past three seasons and  finished last year with respectable numbers, managing 645 rushing yards, 170 receiving yards and six touchdowns in 12 games. Still, Saints didn’t feel comfortable giving him a big deal due to his advanced age, making him look for better offers somewhere else. Ingram has two Pro Bowl appearances in his career.

The drama between the Seattle Seahawks and their All-Pro safety Earl Thomas has been well documented. Thomas, who demands a new contract, first skipped the team’s OTAs, then told the team: “pay me or trade me,” and finally missed decided not to show up on the practice last week.

But according to Seahawks’ head coach Pete Carroll, there is no need to worry about this since they are “in a good place” with the 29-year-old.

Really, we’re way beyond all that stuff,” – Carroll told reporters on Wednesday. “We’ve been working through stuff. We’re going. We’re ready. It’s not even a concern of mine right now. … No, I’m not concerned about it. I think we’re in a good place and we’ve talked through the things we needed to talk through, and we’re moving

I’ve tried to convey to you that we have a longtime relationship and we have a good understanding and we communicate really well, and banking on that, we have gotten to the point where I think we’re moving forward in a really positive way,” – he added. “I’m trying to say as little about it as possible.”

While this might just be Carroll trying to put out the fire, Earl Thomas also hinted that the problems between him and the team are a thing of the past. He recently posted a workout video on Instagram alongside the caption: “Getting back to the fundamentals while putting everything that happened in the past behind me.”

Despite all the issues off the field, Thomas opened the 2018 season in a great fashion. After recording an interception in the season opener against the Denver Broncos, he added two more in Seahawks’ win over Dallas Cowboys in Week 3. He added 18 tackles, and four passes defended.

After a Summer-long holdout, Seahawks’ free safety Earl Thomas has returned to practice. He is expected to complete the final year of his contract at Seattle.

Through a post on his Instagram account, the 29-year old indicated he would be joining back to Seattle even though his grievances to the team were not met.

“I worked my whole life for this,” Thomas announced on Instagram. “I’ve never let my teammates, city of fans down as long as I’ve lived and don’t plan on starting this weekend.”

While he returns, Thomas said the disrespect he received from his team can’t be forgotten.

“…the disrespect has been well noted and will not be forgotten.”

Initially, the Seahawks were looking for trade deals but they reportedly turned down two offers from the Dallas Cowboys.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapaport, Thomas has agreed to complete his final year at the Seahawks. In return, the team has agreed to wipe out any fines the safety accrued for not joining them during the offseason period.

“While #Seahawks12 S Earl Thomas will play out the final year of his final deal in Seattle, the #Seahawks12 did agree to wipe away almost all of his fines, sources said. An offseason saga has ended,” @RapSheet Rapaport tweeted.

Thomas’ absence from the Seahawks training camp had seen him accrue $1.6 million in fines. Had the team enforced the fines and Thomas continued to skip training, the 29-year old would have lost at least $500,000 each week for the rest of this year’s regular season.

You don’t see this kind of things very often. After the Seattle Seahawks defeated the Dallas Cowboys 21-12, Seahawks’ safety Earl Thomas went on to Cowboys locker room and said to coach Jason Garrett: “If y’all have the chance, come get me.

Thomas himself confirmed that he, in fact, said this to Garrett, but clarified that he didn’t mean anytime soon.

We had a great win. I feel like we played lights-out. Just emotional,” – said the 28-year-old safety. “I went to the locker room to talk to [Dez] Bryant, and I saw Coach Garrett. I’ve always been a Cowboys fan growing up. But the biggest thing when I say ‘Come get me’ is, I don’t literally mean like, ‘Come get me now.’ I’m still in the prime of my career. I still want to be here, but when Seattle kicks me to the curb, please — the Cowboys — come get me. That’s the only place I would rather be if I get kicked to the curb. So that’s what I meant by it. People take life too serious. That’s just who I am.”

Thomas still has one year left on his $40 million deal he signed in 2013, after the Seahawks won the Super Bowl. The team usually waits until the player enters the final year of his contract before they offer him a contract extension. Thomas, on the other hand, hopes he will be a Seahawk for a bit more.

I don’t know,” – said Thomas about prospects of a new deal. “I’m just going to keep balling, and hopefully they see the value.

Seattle Seahawks drafted Thomas in the 2010 NFL Draft with the 15th overall pick. During his time with the team, he won one Super Bowl, alongside six Pro Bowl selections and four First-team All-Pro selections. His NFL statistics include 617 tackles, 61 pass deflections, 25 interceptions, 10 forced fumbles and four touchdowns.
