Gregg Popovich, Dirk Nowitzki, and Dwyane Wade are among the latest NBA legends to be nominated for induction into the Hall of Fame. Their names were included in the list of nominees released on Wednesday for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame.

“It will be an unbelievable moment, really,” Nowitzki said of the honor. “I mean, to top everything that has happened here the last couple years and words and accolades that have come my way, that will be the ultimate … to be enshrined, hopefully, with the greatest in our game ever.”

Joining the aforementioned NBA stars is the 1976 U.S. Olympic women’s team as well as the 1982 Cheyney University women’s basketball team that became the first historically black college or university to compete for an NCAA title.

While the finalists from the North American and women’s committees for the Hall of Fame are set to be announced at the NBA All-Star weekend on February 17 in Salt Lake City, the full class of Hall of Famers for 2023 is scheduled to be announced at the NCAA Final Four in Houston on April 1. The Hall of Fame enshrinement weekend is set to take place on August 11 and 12.

Carmelo Anthony has officially passed Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Carmelo is now 15th all-time, right behind Spurs star Tim Duncan.

Anthony has now scored 26,411 points since joining the league as the third overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft, a legendary draft in which Anthony, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh were all taken in the top five.

Anthony is currently playing for the Portland Trail Blazers, who are making a push to qualify for the 2020 playoffs. The 36-year-old player was originally drafted by the Denver Nuggets and has played for the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Houston Rockets.

He led the NBA in scoring in 2012-2013 with the Knicks and has averaged 23.6 points per game during his career. Anthony is also a six-time All-NBA selection and 10-time All-Star. And even though he hasn’t won a championship, his scoring prowess should be enough to cement his status as a future Hall-of-Famer.

Anthony has proven to be an excellent addition to Portland’s roster this season, where he has become a strong veteran leader and an excellent and reliable third scoring option next to Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.

On Monday night, two of the NBA’s best rivalries will come to an end as Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade faces off with Laker’s Lebron James for the final meeting before Wade retires next summer.

Both players spoke about their rivalry, speaking kindly of each other. Wade called Lebron one of his best friends while the latter described Monday’s meet up as bitter and sweet.

“Out of all the players in the league besides (Udonis Haslem), Bron is one of my closest friends,” – Wade told the Miami Herald. “It definitely will mean a little bit more, and just everything in our careers. The paths that we both went down as competitors versus each other and as teammates, we’ll always be linked together forever.”

James made a reflection of his rivalry with Wade starting 15 years ago.

“It’s bitter, and it’s sweet. It’s sweet and sour,” – he said. “The sweet part about it is I’ve always loved being on the same floor with my brother. We struck up a relationship together at the combine in 2003, and it started from there. And the sour part about it is that this is our last time sharing the same court.”

Over the past 15 years, Lebron and Wade have squared off in some great games. In December 2005, James scored 41 points while Wade 33 in a game the Cavaliers beat the Heat 115-107. The duel met again in March 2006, with Wade winning this time. They have also played together, winning two NBA championships in that period.
