Dustin Johnson came close to the elusive Masters’ title several times before, but never managed to clinch it despite his reputation as one of the golf’s best in recent years. 2020, however, was different.

Johnson produced a dominant performance on this year’s Masters, finally capturing the iconic green jacket and breaking the tournament’s scoring record in the process. The 36-year-old golfer posted the lowest 72-hole score in the history of Masters, finishing with 20-under. The previous best was 18-under, held by Tiger Woods and Jordan Speith.

“To have the record at 20 under is a great honor, and … I don’t even know what to say,” said Johnson.

Australian Cameron Smith and South Korean Im Sung-jae tied for second with 15-under, which was the lowest score by a non-winner in the tournament history. The defending champion Tiger Woods finished with 1-under and tied for No. 38.

Dustin Johnson’s previous best result at The Masters was No. 2 in 2019, while he tied for No. 4 in 2016. He was a big favorite to win it all in 2017. but had to skip the tournament due to a back injury.

The win at The Masters was Johnson’s second majors title as he previously won the US Open in 2016. He finished No. 2 at PGA Championship in 2019 and 2020 and at The Open Championship in 2011.
