The New York Jets have turned to veteran offensive tackle Duane Brown in an effort to fill the holes in their offensive line. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Jets signed Brown to a two-year deal that comes with $22 million.

This represents a significant investment in a player that will turn 37 at the end of the month. However, the Jets had little choice after losing third-year OT Mekhi Becton to a knee injury earlier in training camp. It is estimated that the 2020’s first-round pick will be out for the entire upcoming season while recovering.

Brown spent the 2021 NFL season with the Seattle Seahawks, starting all 17 games at left tackle and earning Pro Bowl alternate honors. He reportedly drew interest in free agency from a number of teams, including several that are considered playoff contenders but was drawn to the project in New York and a chance to be a veteran leader for the Jets.

It is unclear whether Brown will slide instead of Becton on the right tackle spot or whether he lines up in his natural position as a left tackle. In case the Jets’ head coach Robert Saleh opts for the latter, the last year’s starter on LT George Fant will move to the right side.

Aside from the Seahawks, Duane Brown also played with the Houston Texans, where he spent the first 10 years of his pro career. He has 203 career starts in NFL and has been a Pro Bowler five times alongside three All-Pro nods.

Seattle Seahawks Pro-Bowl left tackle Duane Brown is practicing with the team once again. This comes after the Seahawks decided to meet Brown’s demands and make adjustments to his contract.

Brown didn’t have a typical holdout, attending training camp and taking part in meetings and other team activities throughout the preseason. However, the 36-year-old player refused to play in preseason games or practice until he got a new deal.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Brown didn’t get a new deal per se with the Seahawks reworking his existing deal. He will now get a $7 million signing bonus while his $10 million base salary for 2021 has been turned into $4 million. The new terms include “an injury protection benefit” for the next season and $500K in incentives.

While Brown didn’t get a raise, he received more money upfront, which was enough to make him happy.

While the Seahawks didn’t publicly acknowledge Brown’s new deal, head coach Pete Carroll did confirm that the veteran is now fully committed to the team and playing in 2021.

“We’re really ready to play football right now,” Carroll told reporters. “That’s where we are, and everything that needed to be taken care of is taken care of, and away we go.”

Since joining the Seahawks in 2017, Duane Brown emerged as the team’s most important player on the offensive line and one of the locker room leaders. He played 53 games for Seattle in the past four years, earning two Pro Bowl nods and being named Pro Bowl alternate in 2020. Brown spent the early part of his career with the Houston Texans.

This may be the sweetest story of the year, in more ways than one. Me & The Bees Lemonade was founded by 12-year-old Makaila Ulmer. What’s happened since is the stuff beyond the dreams of your average preteen.

The Founding Of A Lemonade Behemoth

Mikaila was just four years old when she was stung twice by a bee. The precocious youngster was naturally baffled by being stung and resolved to learn all that she could about bees.

What she learned left her with a brand new set of priorities for her life. She found that bees are an essential part of the ecosystem and that, without bees, there would be no life on earth. She also discovered that bees are not having the happiest time in the modern world and that some species are even under the threat of extinction.

While many children might not have been able to envision such a future, Mikaila could see it clearly and she was determined to save the bees. She chose her great-grandmother’s lemonade recipe, which uses with flax seed and honey, to raise funds for her cause.

The Minor Leagues

Mikaila appeared on Shark Tank in 2015. At the age of just 10, she not only managed to get through the show’s demanding entry and pitching process, but she succeeded in raising $60,000 of investment.

That led to an invitation to meet President Barack Obama in the White House to discuss her success. She was then named one of the Movement 50 Top 10 Innovators of the Year at SXSW.

Using her own initiative, she also landed a deal to distribute her lemonade at Whole Foods stores across the country—a task that has defeated more than one grown-up supplier over the years.

To build on her success, though, she needed more money to keep the company moving in the right direction.

Arian Foster says: “Of course, any time you invest in anything, you look at if it’s going to be profitable. We look for companies that match our main focus of developing a good product but are also good people and do it for the right reasons. It’s more than about money to us. We believe that investing in small black businesses is extremely important.”

Which is why he and other NFL players (Texan, Glover Quin, Duane Brown, Jonathan Grimes, Omar Bolden, Bobby Wagner, Darius Slay, Sherrick McManis, EJ Manuel, Malik Jackson, Nick Martin and Lameck Lukanga) have just pumped $810,000 into Mikaila’s business.

Mikaila learned of this at the “Been Brilliant Entrepreneur Day” at her local Boys & Girls Club. As you might expect, she’s pretty pleased with the results.

“I’m very happy that I’m able to work with them and they invested in my company—and them helping us and mentoring us and believing in our mission, I think we have a better chance of achieving our goals. That keeps me pumped and excited every day.”

12 years old with over a million dollars raised in investments? Mikaila has a very bright future in front of her indeed!
