The injuries keep on piling up for Denver Broncos. The latest two came over the weekend when the organization learned that they will have to play multiple weeks without starters quarterback Drew Locks and running back Philip Lindsay due to injuries.

Lock was injured in the first quarter of the 26-21 loss to Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday night. The 23-year-old QB landed awkwardly on his shoulder after being sacked by Steelers’ Bud Dupree and had to leave the contest.

“We’ll probably do an MRI on it,” said Lock after the game.”And yes, because it’s my throwing arm, there’s a little bit more caution in there.”

While Broncos didn’t give much detail about their signal caller’s injury, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Lock sprained his AC and will have to sit out from two to six weeks depending on the extent of the injury.

Lindsay, on the other hand, has been dealing with a toe sprain for the past several days and was forced to miss the game against the Steelers. The 26-year-old RB is reportedly facing a two to four weeks break, which means the earliest he could return is the Week 4 game against New York Jets.

The injuries of Lock and Lindsay represent another tough blow for Denver, who is losing key players right and left each week. Denver previously saw All-Pro linebacker Von Miller go down with season-ending ankle surgery, while Pro Bowl wideout Courtland Sutton is also dealing with a serious shoulder injury.

Since Peyton Manning retirement in 2016, Denver Broncos have been struggling to find their next star quarterback. Broncos had numerous misses with QBs both in the draft and free agency, but that didn’t stop their general manager John Elway from trying. In the second round of 2019 NFL Draft, Elway decided to take Missouri’s Drew Lock and now hopes the search is finally over.

Speaking with Mike Klis of 9News Denver, Elway said that the organization feel’s good about Lock and hopes that he will be the “guy for the future.”

“You’re always trying to find an answer to the quarterback position,” – said Elway. “You can’t wait till you don’t have one. We’ve been working on it and you’re always working on it. We feel good about what we have in Drew and his ability over the next couple years to continue to grow and make some strides. Hopefully, he’s that guy for the future.”

However, Drew Lock will likely have to wait a year or two before being able to show whether he is the Broncos future. Before drafting Lock, Denver traded for Baltimore Ravens’ signal-caller Joe Flacco, who is expected to be Week 1 starting QB when the 2019 NFL season kicks off. Broncos prefer to sit Lock and have him learn the trades of the professional football before throwing him into the fire, but if Flacco ends up struggling, it wouldn’t be strange for the team to change their decision.

During his four years at Missouri, Lock played 50 games (46 as a starter), and completed 56.percent of his passes for 12,193 yards and 99 touchdowns.

With the 2019 NFL Draft approaching fast, quarterback-needy teams are starting to zero in on their preferred prospects. Oklahoma’s Kyler Murray and Ohio State’s Dwayne Haskins are currently regarded as the best QBs in the class, but there might be a dark horse in this race. Missouri’s Drew Lock recently talked with the reporters during NFL Scouting Combine and said that he is “No.1” QB in the class.

“I think every quarterback is going to tell you they’re No. 1, so I’m going to sit here and tell you I’m No. 1,” – said Lock. “It’s not my job to go and critique quarterbacks; I just know a lot about me.”

Lock went on to try and make a case for himself and explain why he thinks he is the best quarterback NFL teams can get in 2019 NFL draft.

“I know that I’ve been through a certain amount of adversity at the University of Missouri that will get me ready for the NFL,” – he added. “I know I’m athletic enough to be in the NFL and I’m going to prove that tomorrow. I know that I have the arm strength to play, I can make any throw on the field and I know I have the creativity out of the pocket to make plays when the pocket breaks down. I’m just a really confident guy.

Drew Lock played four years at Missouri, playing 50 games in total, 46 of which he started. His best season came in 2017, when he threw for 3,964 yards and 44 touchdowns, earning First-Team All-SEC honors in the process.

Luck left college with 12,193 passing yards and 99 touchdowns, both of which rank second in Missouri’s history.
