The Tampa Bay Buccaneers continue having a busy offseason that looks to position them for another Super Bowl run in 2021. According to multiple reports, the Bucs agreed to a new contract extension with left tackle Donovan Smith while also re-signing free-agent defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh.

Smith received a two-year, $31.8 million contract extension that will now keep him with the organization through 2023. The deal comes with $30 million in guarantees for the player while the Bucs get a significant cap-relief.

Instead of counting $14.25 million against the cap next season, Smith will now only have a $3.6 million cap hit. This gives Tampa Bay more than $10 million to use for other moves.

Shortly after finalizing Smith’s extension, the Buccaneers worked out a new contract for Suh. The five-time Pro Bowler reportedly agreed to a one-year deal that will pay him $10 million. The agreement should contain several voidable years for salary-cap purposes.

Suh was solid for the Buccaneers in 2020, totaling 6.0 sacks in 16 starts. He also added 44 tackles, 19 QB hits, and one forced fumble.

With this tempo, Tampa Bay will manage to keep their championship core almost intact. They previously franchise-tagged wideout Chris Godwin while signing several players to new deals, including linebacker Shaq Barrett and tight end Rob Gronkowski to new deals.

The Bucs are now expected to turn their focus to wide receiver Antonio Brown and running back Leonard Fournette. The duo played a big role in the postseason for Tampa Bay, and it isn’t a secret that the organization wants them back.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have locked up their solid left tackle for the next four seasons.

Donovan Smith has agreed to a four-year deal worth $41.25 million to keep him with the Bucs for the next several seasons.

Smith, who Tampa Bay drafted in the second round of the 2015 NFL draft, has become a stalwart in the Buccaneers’ offensive line since he was drafted.

The 6 foot 6, 335 pound behemoth has been a consistent starter for the Buccaneers, and has been the primary piece of the offensive line tasked with protecting quarterback Jameis Winston’s blind side.

By locking up Smith, Tampa doesn’t have to worry about finding a left tackle to fill this part of the line in what will almost certainly be a limited market.

Smith, who played college football with the Penn State Nittany Lions, was named an all-rookie selection in 2015 and has been a consistent performer for the NFC South team.

$27 million dollars of the deal for Smith is guaranteed money. Smith earned only $6 million in his four-year rookie contract with the team.

Smith is expected to continue as Tampa’s starting left tackle.
