The fact that his Memphis Grizzlies were handed an early playoff exit by the Los Angeles Lakers isn’t making Dillon Brooks rethink his previous comments about the superstar LeBron James. Speaking with reporters on Monday, Brooks said that he has no regrets about taking aim at James during the first-round series between the Grizzlies and the Lakers. 

Following the Grizzlies’ 103-93 win in Game 2, Brooks came out and said that he believes James is “old.” He also said that he doesn’t respect anyone, James included, until “they come and give me 40.”

The Lakers went on to win the next three out of four games to send the Grizzlies packing, while James delivered several efficient performances, including 22 points and 20 rebounds outing in Game 4. While many believed that Brooks’ comments provided a bit of extra motivation for the LA team, the 27-year-old doesn’t feel any regret about things he said.

“No, that’s who I am,” Brooks told reporters. “I don’t regret it. I’m a competitor. I compete.”

Brooks also believed that James didn’t need extra motivation.

“It has been a little while, so he was ready to play,” he added. “Overall, we just got to be better.”

Dillon Brooks provided solid defense in the series against the Lakers but struggled mightily on the offense. He averaged 10.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.8 assists while shooting only 31.2% from the floor and 23.8% from behind the arc.

It seems like Memphis Grizzlies’ guard/forward Dillon Brooks just can’t catch a break from injuries this season. After recently missing 21 games due to a sprained MCL, the 22-year-old is now looking to an even longer break.

The Grizzlies announced on Tuesday that Brooks will have to undergo surgery to repair a ruptured ligament in his big toe later in the week, which will reportedly sideline him for the season. He suffered the injury on Saturday in a 108-88 loss to San Antonio Spurs.

Dillon Brooks played a total of 18 games in 2018-19 NBA season, averaging 7.5 points and 1.7 rebounds per game. He was especially prolific in the last five games he played before the injury, using the extended minutes he received in a great way and averaging 11,2 points per game.

After playing college basketball with Oregon University, Dillon Brooks was drafted 45th overall in 2017 NBA Draft by the Houston Rockets. He was, however, swiftly traded to the Grizzlies on the night of the draft, and ended up signing a three-year deal with the organization. Brooks had a great rookie season, playing in all 82 games and starting 74 of them, while managing to average 11.0 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.
