Sacramento Kings’ center Dewayne Dedmon might talk with media a little less in the future. NBA announced on Thursday that Dedmon received a $50,000 fine for “public statements detrimental to the NBA and its teams.”

This comes after Dedmon said that he wants to be traded in a conversation with Sacramento Bee. The 30-year-old is barely playing this season with the Kings and has lost his place in the rotation in recent weeks. He played 23 games in 2019/20, averaging 4.8 points and 3.8 rebounds in 13.6 minutes per game.

“I would like to be traded,” said Dedmon at the time. “I haven’t been playing, so I would like to go somewhere where my talents are appreciated.”

Deadmon getting fined for such a statement isn’t a surprise, as the NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement prohibits the players from making public trade requests.

Dewayne Dedmon had a career year with the Atlanta Hawks last season, which made him a highly sought-after free agent in the summer. Deadmon ended up signing with Sacramento Kings on a three-year, $40 million contract, expecting to bring veteran experience to the young team.

However, it seems like Deadmon didn’t gel in with his new team or perhaps doesn’t fit in Luke Walton’s system. Regardless, it is expected that Kings will honor his request and look to swap him for someone they will play.
