Deshaun Watson’s NFL season has come to a premature end after he suffered a shoulder fracture. The surgery that he will undergo on his throwing shoulder will require him to remain out of action for the rest of the season.

“It’s very tough,” Watson emotionally said. “Hurt about it. I’m still in disbelief. I’m still trying to process all the information. I felt like we were turning a corner to really make a run and still believe we still will with the guys in this locker room. I just wanted to physically be a part of it. … It’s tough to try to wrap everything around my head right now.”

The Browns’ star quarterback injured his shoulder during the first half of the 31-33 win over the Baltimore Ravens, however, he opted to play through it. On Monday, an MRI revealed that Watson incurred a displaced fracture to the glenoid in his right shoulder. According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Thompson-Robinson’s poor performance prompted Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski to demote the UCLA Bruins product to third string and elevate Walker from the practice squad to serve as Watson’s backup.

Speaking with reporters on Thursday, Stefanski didn’t offer much detail about Watson’s status for the 49ers game, saying the team is yet to make the final decision.
