Since entering the league as Washington’s second-round pick in 2018, Derrius Guice spent more time recovering from injuries than playing football. However, it seems like 2020 could be a turning point for the talented 23-year-old running back.

Guice revealed on social media on Monday that he has been “cleared for 2020” after missing the majority of the past season with several injuries. He reportedly passed his physical over the weekend and can return to football activities. 

Washington had high expectations after drafting Derrius Guice, especially since he rushed for 3,074 yards and 29 touchdowns during his three years with LSU. However, Guice didn’t even get to make and official appearance in his rookie season as he tore his ACL in the team’s first preseason game.

Guice recovered in time to start 2019 but only got to 10 carries in the season opener against Philadelphia Eagles before leaving the field. It was later revealed that he suffered a torn meniscus and will have to spend more time on the sidelines.

In Week 11, Guice returned to action and managed to string together several promising performances before having to end his season in Week 14 following an MCL sprain.  

If healthy, Guice is expected to carry a heavy workload for Washington this season, especially since the team doesn’t have much depth on the position. His current NFL stats include 42 carries for 245 yards (5.8 yards per carry) and two touchdowns.

Washington Redskins’ struggling offense is getting significant help in the second part 2019 NFL season. The team announced on Thursday that they have activated second-year running back Derrius Guice off injured reserve list.

Guice, who missed the first part of the season with a knee injury, will return to Redskins’ lineup in Week 11 game against New York Jets. Washington is on bye this week.

Despite being on injured reserve for the past eight weeks, Guice’s rehab was going well enough that he could start working out several weeks ago. He returned to team practice in late October and has been a participant in regular team activities ever since. 

“It was good to get him on the practice field,” – Washington’s interim head coach Bill Callahan told reporters at the time. “He’s worked hard to get back, and his workload was a good amount today but not too much because we’re still monitoring his conditioning level as he works back into football. So, it was great to see him work at the level that he did today.”

Derrius Guice struggled to remain on the field ever since Washington Redskins took him in the second round of 2018 NFL Draft. Guice was forced to miss his rookie season entirely due to a torn ACL he suffered in the preseason. After returning to health this year, he made his pro debut in Week 1 against Philadelphia Eagles.

Guice, however, didn’t manage to finish the game as he left it early due to a knee injury. Before his exit, he rushed for 18 yards and caught three passes for 20 yards. It was later revealed that he tore his meniscus and required a surgery, which eventually landed him on IR.

Washington Redskins’ running back Derrius Guice is once again headed to the sidelines. After missing his entire rookie season with an ACL injury last year, Guice will now be sidelined for at least two months with a torn meniscus.

Guice suffered the injury in the season opener against Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday. He underwent surgery on Thursday, and his recovery is expected to last between four and six weeks according to reports. The team, however, is expected to give him additional time to rehab. 

Redskins announced on Friday that they have placed Guice on the Injured Reserve list, making him eligible to return for Week 11 game against the New York Jets, which will take place on November 17th.

Washington Redskins drafted Derrius Guice in the second round of the 2018 NFL Draft with the intention of making him their No.1 running back. Unfortunately, Guice ended up tearing his ACL during the preseason and had to miss his entire rookie season.

Guice made his official NFL debut against the Eagles, but had a shaky performance, rushing for 18 yards on 10 carries and adding three receptions for 20 yards.

With Guice out, Redskins are now expected to give veteran Adrian Peterson a more prominent role on the offense. Peterson also stepped in last year and managed to contribute with 1,042 yards and seven touchdowns.

NFL preseason didn’t start well for the Washington Redskins. One quarter into their Thursday’s game against the New England Patriots, Redskins’ rookie running back Derrius Guice suffered a knee injury and had to leave the field. Although initial diagnosis was an MCL sprain, MRI on his knee showed a torn ACL.

Redskins confirmed the news on their official Twitter page, saying that Guice will miss the 2018 season. This wasn’t the only bad news for the team, however, since tight end Manasseh Garner also suffered an ACL injury and is looking at the same recovery period as Guice.
