Denver Broncos announced on Thursday that they have signed former Oakland Raiders punter Marquette King on a three-year deal. According to ESPN, the deal is worth around $7 million. Oakland Raiders released King on March 30th, since he didn’t fit into the plans of team’s new coach Jon Gruden.

The cool thing about the Broncos is the people that work at the Broncos encourage you to be yourself,” – said King. “That is real cool. Players play a lot better when they can let their hair down and be themselves. It’s cool. They encourage it.

The 29-year-old also added that he hopes to kick-start his career with the Broncos and that he felt they were “the best team to go to.”

After getting undrafted in the 2012 NFL Draft, Marquette King signed with the Oakland Raiders after a successful tryout. In 2013 he became team’s starting punter, and led the league in yards per punt, with 48.9. In 2014, he became the NFL punting yards leader for the season with 4,930 yards on 109 punts. Thanks to his good performances, the Raiders signed him to a five-year, $16.50 million extension in 2016.

Broncos have been active on the market in the offseason, signing free agents as well as trading for players. Besides King, they added former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Case Keenum, and traded for Arizona Cardinals tackle Jared Veldheer and Washington Redskins safety Su’a Cravens.

Denver Broncos are improving on the defensive end. The team has acquired safety Su’a Cravens from the Washington Redskins on Wednesday according to ESPN‘s reports. Broncos swapped fourth- and fifth-round picks with the Redskins, while also sending a fifth-round pick in 2018 draft and a conditional sixth-rounder in 2020 draft.

Cravens’ agent, Peter Schaffer, also confirmed the deal, saying that his client is already on his way to Denver.

John [Elway] called him up and told him how excited they were to have him,” – said Schaffer. “Everyone is positive going forward and that’s all Su’a is concerned about now.

After playing hybrid safety-linebacker position through his college career, Su’a Cravens was selected 53rd overall by the Redskins in 2016 NFL Draft. Although practicing and playing some preseason games as inside linebacker, the Redskins intended to make Cravens their starting safety.

He played in three games in 2016 NFL season, before suffered a concussion in Week 4, which made him miss two games. He returned after concussion for two more games, before being sidelined for the season with an elbow injury.

Due to family issues, Cravens decided to retire before the start of 2017 season, but Redskins team president Bruce Allen convinced him to postpone the decision. He was placed on the team’s exempt list for the remainder of the season.

According to his agent, Su’a Cravens now doesn’t have any doubts and is only focused on playing football.

That’s not even a question in my mind. In every conversation we have, he breathes, he talks, he eats football. I don’t understand what people are talking about.” – said Schaffer.

Veteran running back Jamaal Charles is looking his way out from Denver. Speaking to The Denver Post recently, Charles said he would like to be released by Denver Broncos in order to find a spot on a playoff team where he could play for a change.

I ain’t playing. Might as well,” – said Charles. “No reason for me to just sit around and look at people play. It is what it is. I’m still going to be supportive of everyone on the team no matter what. I mean, they got my rights right now.

Although the player might want to sign with another team, Broncos coach Vance Joseph commented that Charles’ release “has not been a thought for us.

Charles signed a one-year, $900,000 deal ($3.75 million with all the bonuses) in the summer, and had a nice start in the first three games of the season, having 28 carries combined. But since Devontae Booker returned from the injury in Week 4, Charles’ role was diminished and he had only seven carries in six games. The Broncos will also miss the playoffs this year, so they have decided to give a rookie running back De’Angelo Henderson a chance.

At the end of the day, I just got to see what’s the future for me.” – added Charles about his situation. “That’s the next step. If it’s somewhere else or if somebody wants to pick me up … I want to play. I feel like I never got a chance to show people that I can carry the load, so I still want to (show) that I can carry a team. I want an opportunity. That’s all I want.

Jamaal Charles spent his entire career with the Kansas City Chiefs, before joining the Broncos. He is NFL’s all-time leader in career yards-per-carry among the running backs, so he supposed to be a big addition to the Broncos offense. It looks like coach Joseph had something different in mind.
