The Atlanta Hawks are in the midst of another disappointing season and are expected to be sellers at the NBA trade deadline. The player they are reportedly open to moving is All-Star point guard Dejounte Murray, who is already attracting interest from the Los Angeles Lakers and the New York Knicks.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania recently discussed the Lakers’ trade targets and mentioned Murray as a player of interest. According to Charania, Murray represents an alternative for the LA team if their pursuit of Chicago Bulls’ Zach LaVine doesn’t come to fruition.

The one issue for the Lakers is that they lack draft assets to present the Hawks with a credible offer that doesn’t include standout shooting guard Austin Reaves.

On the other hand, Ian Begley of SNY reports that Murray is a target for the Knicks. The New York team already tried to get Murray before the San Antonio Spurs sent him to Atlanta during the 2022 offseason. They still have interest in the 27-year-old player, viewing him as an ideal fit alongside their guard Jalen Brunson.

If the Knicks decide to make a run for Murray, they will have no trouble matching the Hawks’ asking price. The Knicks have a surplus of draft picks they gained in previous trades while also being able to sweeten the offer with several young players.

Murray is averaging 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 5.4 assists and 1.6 steals per game this season. The Hawks currently find themselves at No. 11 in the Eastern Conference with a 12-17 record.

The Atlanta Hawks reportedly pulled off a blockbuster trade with the San Antonio Spurs that saw them landing All-Star guard Dejounte Murray. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, the Spurs will get three first-rounders and forward Danilo Gallinari in exchange.

The first-round picks are 2023 via Charlotte Hornets and unprotected 2025 and 2027 selections from the Hawks. San Antonio will also have an option to swap picks in 2026.

Murray, who was a late first-round selection by the Spurs in 2016, is coming off a career year that saw him make an NBA All-Star team, NBA All-Defensive Second Team, and lead the league in steals. He finished the 2021-22 NBA season, averaging 21.1 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 9.2 assists per game. All were career-high for the 25-year-old.

By acquiring Dejounte Murray, the Hawks are sending a message that they are in win-now mode. Despite mortgaging their future, the trade gives them one of the most exciting backcourts in the league in Murray and All-Star point guard Trae Young and increases their chances to contend in a loaded Eastern Conference.

On the other hand, the Spurs continue to tear down their roster while stockpiling draft picks. They traded away starting guard Derrick White to the Boston Celtics in February in exchange for a 2022 first-round pick.

San Antonio Spurs announced that their rookie guard Lonnie Walker was diagnosed with a right medial meniscus tear and will have to undergo a surgery in the coming days. Walker, who was taken 18th overall in 2018 NBA Draft, suffered the injury in the 117-93 win over Detroit Pistons on Friday.

Although the Spurs declined to give a timeline on Walker’s return, according to ESPN‘s sources, the 19-year-old will be out for six to eight weeks.

Lonnie Walker spent five minutes on the court against the Pistons, contributing with six points and one assist. He also had one turnover.

Walker’s injury, unfortunately, wasn’t the end of Spurs’ troubles. In Sunday’s game against Houston Rockets, their starting point guard Dejounte Murray was also injured and might be facing with a longer recovery period. The full extent of Murray’s injury will be revealed after an MRI on Monday.

He’s our starting PG, and he’s worked hard over the summer to get better, and I think it was showing,” – said Spurs forward LaMarcus Aldridge after the game. “You just feel for him because he’s worked so hard to be ready for this season.”

If Dejounte Murray’s injury turns out to be more serious one, that will be a big blow for San Antonio Spurs who hoped that the 22-year-old could make a step forward this season and continue his development. Murray took over as Spurs’ starting point guard halfway through the 2017-18 season in which he averaged 8.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game.

Utah Jazz center Rudy Gobert earned the most votes for NBA All-Defensive First Team, the league has announced on Wednesday. Gobert, who is also the favorite for Defensive Player of the Year, earned 94 First Team votes. He averaged 13.5 points, 10.7 rebounds and 2.3 blocks per game during the regular season, and was the big part of the Jazz’s Western Conference first-round win against the Oklahoma City Thunder.

Behind Gobert is New Orleans Pelicans’ forward Anthony Davis who earned his first NBA All-Defensive First Team selection. Davis, who has two NBA All-Defensive Second Team selections, earned 73 first-team votes. He had an MVP-worthy campaign after the Pelicans lost DeMarcus Cousins, averaging 28.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, 1.5 steals and led the league in blocks with 2.6 per game.

Rudy Gobert and Anthony Davis are joined on NBA All-Defensive First Team by Indiana Pacers guard Victor Oladipo, Pelicans guard Jrue Holiday and Philadelphia 76ers forward Robert Covington. This is also the first selection for Oladipo, Holiday and Covington.

NBA Defensive Player of the Year finalist, 76ers’ Joel Embiid, didn’t find his place on the NBA All-Defensive First Team. He did, however, made it into NBA All-Defensive Second Team selection. He is joined by Golden State Warriors forward Draymond Green, Boston Celtics center Al Horford, San Antonio Spurs guard Dejounte Murray and Minnesota Timberwolves guard Jimmy Butler.
