Boston Red Sox are in the middle of a disappointing 2019 MLB campaign that will probably see them miss the postseason just one year after winning the World Series. This is why the team already started making significant changes at the top and fired the president of baseball operations, Dave Dombrowski.

Dombrowski has been with the Red Sox for the past four years and is considered to be the creator of the roster that managed to win the title in 2018.

The team confirmed their decision in a press release on Monday morning.

“Dave will hold a special place in franchise history as a key architect of one of the greatest Red Sox teams ever assembled,” – said chairman Tom Werner in a statement. “His willingness to make bold moves helped deliver our fourth World Series Championship in the 21st century.”

Despite their success last season, Red Sox couldn’t manage to replicate the same level of baseball this year. They are currently sitting eight games behind the second wild-card spot in American League while being 17 and a half games behind the AL-leading the New York Yankees.

Before coming to Boston, Dombrowski notably served as a general manager of the Florida Marlins and the Detroit Tigers. He overlooked Marlins’ 1997 World Series run while helping the Tigers get to three American League champion titles.
