Becoming a Super Bowl champion obviously wasn’t enough for the retired All-Pro corner Darrelle Revis to enjoy the stint with the New England Patriots in 2014. That might be the reason why he only stayed in New England for one season.

During his recent appearance on the I Am Athlete podcast, the now-retired Revis shared his thoughts on the Patriots organization, and they were not exactly pretty.

“Nobody likes it in the locker room. Just being honest, nobody likes it,” Revis said.

Revis then explained that there was “a lot of tension” and “a lot of noise” surrounding the organization that made the experience far from enjoyable for him. When asked whether a Super Bowl win made it any better, the seven-time Pro Bowler reiterated his stance.

“You see the hustle and the grind of it, but at the end of the day, there’s other philosophies to win and it doesn’t have to be that way,” he added.

Darrelle Revis signed with the Pats as a free agent ahead of the 2014 NFL season and played a big part in the team’s road to Super Bowl while earning a Pro Bowl nod and All-Pro honors. But despite this, New England decided not to pick up the option on his contract for 2015, making him a free agent.

Revis later played with the New York Jets and the Kansas City Chiefs before retiring in 2018.

Former All-Pro cornerback Darrelle Revis has joined other great football players who decided to retire from the NFL this summer. Revis, who will probably be first ballot Hall of Famer, last played for the Kansas City Chiefs, who released him back in February. He announced his decision via post on Instagram.

For the past 11 years, it has truly been an honor to showcase one of my greatest gifts to the world,” – Revis wrote. “Today I am closing a chapter in my life that I once dreamed of as a kid and I am officially retiring from the National Football League. The game of football has opened doors for me I once thought were nearly impossible to get through. My passion to play the game at an elite level brought fun and excitement to the term ‘shutdown corner’ which was nearly on the verge of extinction. Covering some of the toughest assignments in league history was a challenge every Sunday, but also an honor within this game we all love.

Darrelle Revis also thanked his former teammates, coaches and mentors who helped him through his 11 seasons he spent in the league.

Darrelle Revis was drafted 14th overall in the 2007 NFL draft by the New York Jets and spent most of his time in the league with this organization. Besides Jets and the Chiefs, he also played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and New England Patriots, winning a Super Bowl with the Pats. During his career, he was named seven times to Pro Bowl and earned four First-Team All-Pro honors.

Although Revis was a dominant player early in his career, in the recent years he saw a decline in production which eventually led to less playing time. This, alongside other personal reasons, is believed to be the main reason he decided to retire.

Kansas City Chiefs decided they need reinforcement on the defensive end, and signed veteran cornerback Darrelle Revis on a two-year deal. Revis was a free agent since March 2017 when he was released by the New York Jets. The news was confirmed on the team’s official Twitter profile.

The reason for me returning is the fire I have, the fuel I have to continue to play this game at a high level,” – Revis said after signing the contract. “My role is to help win. Whatever is best for the team, whether my position is playing a few downs or playing in the slot, wherever Coach wants to play me and feels he can utilize me to help win.

Although Revis joins the Chiefs after having the worst season in his professional career, the team still hopes he can be a big contributor. The Chiefs’ head coach Andy Reid certainly thinks so and wouldn’t mind starting Revis right away.

You’re talking about one of the all-time great players at that position,” – said Reid. “It’s just a matter of getting him back in the swing of things … I would think his role would be to step in and be a starter.

After an impressive college career Darrelle Revis entered the 2007 NFL Draft where he was projected to be a first round pick. The New York Jets moved up in the draft and selected him with the 14th overall pick. The decision proved to be a wise one from the Jets, since Revis became one of the NFL’s top cornerbacks during his time with the team. In 2013, Jets decided to trade Revis to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He had a great season once again, but was released by the Buccaneers after just one year due to his big salary and not fitting in the team’s defense system. Revis immediately signed with the New England Patriots and managed to win a Super Bowl ring in his first season with the team. He didn’t stick much with the Patriots, and returned to the Jets after one year. In 2015, Revis had another outstanding season, being ranked among the 25 best players in the NFL. However, in 2016 he performed terribly which caused Jets to release him. During his career, Revis earned seven Pro Bowl selections and four First-team All-Pro honors.
