The Atlanta Falcons announced on Monday that they have signed veteran corner Darqueze Dennard to a deal. The contract details remained undisclosed.

Signing with the Falcons represents a happy end to Dennard’s frustrating free agency in 2020. The 28-year-old veteran previously agreed to a three-year, $13.5 million deal with the Jacksonville Jaguars in March, but the move was not finalized as the two sides failed to iron out certain contractual details.

Dennard spent 2019 with the Cincinnati Bengals, contributing with 37 tackles and five pass deflections in nine games. He also allowed just 16 completed passes out 36 times he was targeted.

Bringing in Darqueze Dennard makes a lot of sense for the Falcons considering their young secondary. Entering the training camp, Atlanta only had rookie first-round pick A.J. Terrell, 2019’s fourth-rounder Kendall Sheffield, and third-year player Isaiah Oliver on the CB position.

Dennard is expected to provide guidance to the youngsters but also step up in a high-pressure situation. But, if things go well during the training camp, it wouldn’t be a surprise if he also manages to get a starting position.

Since becoming Bengals’ 24th overall pick in 2014, Dennard played 77 games and had 24 starts. His career stats include 274 tackles, 22 pass deflections, 3.0 sacks, three interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.
