Manchester United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward recently explained that all of the club’s staff and players are working towards bringing the club back to trophy-winning ways. This statement was made to the club’s financial investors following reports of Manchester United’s record annual revenue in excess of £627 million.

“We and our growing global fanbase demand success,” Woodward explained. “Success means winning trophies and that target has never changed.”

Since legendary manager, Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure from the club in 2013, Manchester United has failed to reclaim the Premier League title. In fact, the team only finished in the top three once within the six-year period.

Another concern is the club’s failure to qualify for Champions League action on three occasions. The team’s failure to qualify yet again this season is expected to result in reduced revenues ranging from £40 million to £60 million in 2020.

Woodward reiterated his confidence by explaining, “The progress we have made on the business side underpins continued investment in the football side… We are confident this investment will deliver results but it is important we are patient while Ole builds for the future.”

The latest transfer window saw the Red Devils spend £145 million on three major arrivals, namely Harry Maguire, Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Daniel James.

Ole Gunnar Solksjaer had made his first signing as the head man at Manchester United, signing Swansea City winger Daniel James for a reported transfer fee of $19.1 million.

The 21-year-old Wales native made his senior team debut with the Championship side in the 2018-19 season, appearing in 38 total games. He impressed in his senior debut, scoring 5 total goals and distributing 10 assists.

Not only did James break out by making his debut with Swansea City in 2018-19, but he also made his debut with the Welsh national team. There, he scored the game-deciding goal in a 1-0 Wales win over Slovakia in Euro 2020 qualifying.

Manchester United coach Ole Gunnar Solksjaer said of the new Red Devil, “Daniel is an exciting young winger with lots of skills, vision, exceptional pace and a good work ethic.”

He went on to add that he thinks that Manchester United is the perfect place for James to continue developing and advancing as an elite player in the Premier League.

The left-footed winger might not have the opportunity to immediately be a starter for the Red Devils, but his importance should grow for one of England’s top teams as the next few years go on.
