The Baltimore Ravens signed running back Dalvin Cook to their practice squad on Thursday, thereby boosting the team’s backfield as they head into the NFL playoffs. This comes after Cook went unclaimed on waivers after being released by the New York Jets on Tuesday. Cook’s agency previously confirmed that the player would be joining the Ravens after departing the Jets.

Cook’s playing time with the Ravens had been declining in recent weeks, with the player suited up yet not playing a single minute in his team’s 37-20 loss to the Cleveland Browns in what was a career first. According to one source, Cook’s departure from the Ravens was mutually agreed upon, with the player also agreeing to restructure his contract to forfeit remaining guarantees.

Baltimore sports the NFL’s number one rushing attack, however, its backfield has struggled due to injuries. With J.K. Dobbins suffering a season-ending Achilles injury and rookie Keaton Mitchell also sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a knee injury, Cook’s arrival is a welcome sight for the Ravens.

Dalvin Cook’s underwhelming spell with the New York Jets has ended. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Jets made a decision to waive Cook ahead of their last game of the season.

Schefter adds that Cook restructured his contract ahead of the release, forfeiting the remainder of the guarantees. The move improves the running back’s chances of landing with a playoff contender in the following days.

The Jets signed Cook on a one-year, $7 million deal in August. The team wanted to add more power to their running game while also providing cover for starter Breece Hall, who was coming back from a knee injury.

However, the Jets didn’t have much confidence in Cook once the season started, giving him more than nine carries in just one game. He only had one rushing attempt in Week 16 against the Dolphins while remaining on the sidelines for last week’s 37-20 loss to the Cleveland Browns. The 28-year-old will finish his stint with the Jets with 214 rushing yards and zero touchdowns.

Dalvin Cook spent the first six years of his NFL career with the Minnesota Vikings. He received four consecutive Pro Bowl nods during his time with the franchise. The Vikings opted to release him at the end of the 2022 campaign.

Free agent running back Dalvin Cook is set to become a New York Jets player, sources familiar with the matter confirmed early Tuesday morning. The 28-year-old player is expected to sign a one-year contract worth $8.6 million.

Cook was released from the Minnesota Vikings on June 8 after spending four straight Pro Bowl seasons with the team. The Jets pounced on Cook’s availability soon after, with coach Robert Saleh recently admitting, “Obviously, you don’t want to say no to a great player.”

In addition to being a talented and experienced option, the running back provides the Jets with some much-needed depth as number one choice back Breece Hall continues to be eased back into action upon recovering from ACL surgery. While the Jets are optimistic about Hall’s availability for the Week 1 game against the Buffalo Bills, time is running out as he remains on the PUP list.

New York received the funds they need for Cook’s arrival when Aaron Rodgers agreed to take a $35 million pay cut. Cook is also a capable playmaker who could form a strong partnership with Rodger, boosting the Jets’ creative options.

The Minnesota Vikings’ offense might look a lot different in 2023 compared to some previous seasons. According to multiple reports, the Vikings are looking to offload Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook and have been shopping him around the league.

Cook was a Pro Bowler in each of the past four seasons and had four consecutive campaigns with more than 1,000+ yards on the ground. He finished 2022 with 1,173 rushing yards and eight touchdowns while also 39 catches for 295 yards and 2 TDs.

But despite his production, the Vikings reportedly want to move on from Cook sooner than later. His yards per carry dipped in each of the past two campaigns, and he is currently recovering from shoulder surgery. Also, if kept on the team, Minnesota will be responsible for his $10.4 million salary in 2023.

If they trade Cook, the Vikings will probably net a middle-round pick while also clearing out $11 million in the salary cap. They will also get significant salary cap savings if they release the 27-year-old, although that doesn’t sound like a realistic outcome.

Multiple teams are currently monitoring Cook’s situation, with the Miami Dolphins being mentioned as a possible destination. The Dolphins’ head coach Mike McDaniel is known for his creative use of running backs, and Cook would fit perfectly into his system.

Minnesota Vikings are set to have a holdout on their hands. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Pro Bowl running back Dalvin Cook decided he will not take part in any team activities, including workouts and training camp, if not given a new contract.

Schefter reports that the player is asking for a “reasonable extension” from the Vikings and is ready to hold out even beyond the training camp in case that the team isn’t ready to accommodate his demands.

Cook had a breakthrough season in 2019, emerging as the Vikings’ primary back and rushing for 1,135 yards and 13 touchdowns while adding impressive 53 catches for 519 yards. The 24-year-old RB now wants to cash in these good performances while entering the final year of his rookie deal that only pays him a base salary of $1.3 million in 2020.

Reportedly, Dalvin Cook’s idea of “reasonable extension” includes a yearly salary in the neighborhood of $13 million a year, something that the Vikings weren’t willing to match so far. They came back with a significantly lower offer that ended up stalling the talks between the two sides.

Cook will most likely have to lower his demands if he wants a new deal, as NFL franchises became more cautious with paying players on his position. This is mostly due to cautionary tales of massive extensions given to running backs like Le’Veon Bell, Todd Gurley, and David Johnson, that haven’t exactly worked out the way the teams hoped.
