LA Galaxy liked what they saw from Argentine forward Cristian Pavon since he joined the club in 2019. But apparently not enough to pay $20 million and bring him in on a permanent transfer.

Pavon came to Galaxy from Boca Juniors on a two-year loan deal that includes a purchase option worth $20 million after the 2020 season. The MLS side is interested in keeping the 24-year-old forward but, according to Argentinian media outlet TyC Sports, wants to re-negotiate and lower the price.

Reportedly, Galaxy already informed Boca about their decision and are willing to let Pavon return to Argentina if they can’t reach a deal.

Boca, on the other hand, is believed to have a firm stance on Pavon’s price and will not budge. The team is looking to include the player in their squad as soon as the MLS season ends and believe he could be a valuable addition in this year’s Copa Libertadores campaign.

Cristian Pavon was an important player for Galaxy in the past two seasons and had a respectable production when on the field. He made 29 MLS appearances so far and has 10 goals and 15 assists to show for.

Galaxy most likely believes that these are not the numbers that would justify paying $20 million, as the price tag would make Pavon the most expensive player in MLS history. Another possible reason for the club’s reluctance to spend that much money on a single transfer are team’s disappointing performances in 2020 that might result in several changes, including that on the head coaching position.

LA Galaxy is trying really hard to get talented Argentina forward Cristian Pavon to MLS but Boca Juniors keeps on saying no.

According to ESPN Argentina’s Diego Monroig, Galaxy sent an improved offer worth $16 million for Pavon on Thursday, but Boca rejected the proposal calling it “insufficient.”

Galaxy has been trying to acquire Pavon for months now, but Boca hasn’t been keen to cave and lower their demands for the 23-year-old. Their asking price, believed to be around $25 million, reportedly even repelled European clubs, who are no longer even interested in the player.

While it seemed like the deal that would bring Cristian Pavon to Galaxy is dead, Martin Costa of TNT Sports reports that Boca has come back with a counteroffer. Argentinian powerhouse is reportedly willing to let Pavon go on a season-long loan, with Galaxy getting the purchase option with a higher price tag.

Pavon made his debut with Boca Juniors in 2014, and since then has made 80 appearances while scoring 21 goals.

LA Galaxy is now exploring alternatives for Pavon, with Independiente’s forward Martin Benitez emerging as the most likely option. According to reports, Benitez has a release clause of $20 million, but Independiente would be happy to get around $10 million for the 25-year-old.
