The Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy is not expected to receive a contract extension, sources familiar with the matter claimed to ESPN. While previous reports suggested that McCarthy would stay on with the team, he is now expected to continue coaching next year on an expiring contract, leaving his future unclear.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones previously announced that McCarthy would remain with the team in 2024. While the Cowboys suffered a disappointing playoff wild-card loss to the Green Bay Packers, Jones praised McCarthy’s strong regular-season record with the team while also emphasizing the coach’s “demonstrated postseason success” that came with none other than the Packers.

The Cowboys’ loss to the Packers was a disappointing one, especially given that the Cowboys proved stronger during the regular season, winning the NFC East at 12-5. The Cowboys are now without a Superbowl win for 28 seasons.

The Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones revealed on Tuesday that he remains open to the prospect of conducting trades before the deadline, however, he is not looking to initiate talks with other teams. The trade deadline is 4 p.m. on Tuesday, October 31.

“It will have to come our way,” Jones confirmed during an interview with “Shan & RJ” on 105.3 The Fan. “I don’t want to preclude it in any way, but it always does. … The initiation of an opportunity to make a trade that would help us principally has to start over on the other end. That’s not showing a lack of aggressiveness, it’s just how it starts.”

The Cowboys owner revealed that he feels content with the personnel that his team has at present. Because he is not in search of any upgrades, Jones feels that there is no reason to make any knee-jerk moves.

Dallas Cowboys linebacker Leighton Vander Esch is expected to miss between four and six weeks after picking up a neck strain during his team’s loss to the San Francisco 49ers. According to coach Mike McCarthy, Vander Esch could be placed on injured reserve, meaning that he would be forced to miss a minimum of four games.

“High caution is in place here,” McCarthy explained, particularly given the player’s history of neck issues. Vander Esch missed the last three games of last season due to a neck injury and underwent surgery after the 2019 season after missing seven games due to neck problems.

X-rays of Vander Esch’s neck were taken at the stadium, which came back negative. The player also underwent an MRI and other tests on Monday. In order to replace Vander Esch, the Cowboys are considering adding a veteran, however, McCarthy explained that further information is needed before making a final decision.

It seems like Dallas Cowboys decided not to prolong their head coaching search as they did with firing Jason Garrett. According to multiple reports, Cowboys will hire Mike McCarthy to be the team’s coach in 2020.

The news comes just 24 hours after Cowboys made it clear that Garrett won’t get a contract extension after his contract expired following the end 2019 NFL season. Only other candidate that the team considered besides McCarthy was reportedly former Cincinnati Bengals’ Marvin Lewis.

Early on Monday, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero shared on social media that McCarthy confirmed to him that he already signed a contract.

Mike McCarthy joins the Dallas Cowboys after previously spending 13 years with Green Bay Packers and winning a Super Bowl. McCarthy exited Green Bay towards the end of 2018 NFL season, after being on track to miss the playoffs for the second consecutive time. He was a candidate for several coaching vacancies last year but ended up deciding to take the year off after not landing New York Jets job.

Dallas Cowboys hope that McCarthy will bring them stability and get the best out of their young quarterback Dak Prescott. Cowboys are considered to have one of the most talented rosters in the league but haven’t done much this season, missing the playoffs. This ended up costing Garrett his job and urging Dallas to get a coach with experience and previous success.

Dallas Cowboys suffered a shocking 26-15 loss to Buffalo Bills on Thanksgiving Thursday but the team’s owner Jerry Jones insists there is no need for a change. Although the Cowboys have now lost three out of the last four games, after the game Jones said that he isn’t considering a coaching change.

“I’m just not going to make a coaching change,” – said Jones after being asked whether firing Jason Garrett is an option before the end of the season. “… This is not the time.”

Although Cowboys are still at the top of NFC East, they have now fallen to 6-6 record and have just a half-game lead over second-placed Philadelphia Eagles. They are still pretty much in control of their playoff destiny at this point, but it is safe to say their room for mistakes has gone. Despite this, Jones is confident his team will come through and end up competing for a Super Bowl.

“I’m looking ahead at another ballgame and I’m looking ahead at winning four or five straight and helping to write a story that they’ll talk about that you were down and out and you got it done,” – he added. “Every decision that I make over the next month will be with an eye in mind to get us in the Super Bowl now.”

Jason Garrett has been on a hot seat for some time now, given the fact that Cowboys still haven’t beaten a team with a winning record this season. Despite this, reports say that Jones will not remove him as a coach and will let him end the job this season. However, considering the fact that Garrett is out of contract in 2020, he will most certainly be out if Dallas doesn’t deliver in 2019.
