The Denver Broncos are not interested in trading their top wideouts Jerry Jeudy and Courtland Sutton. This was confirmed by the team’s new head coach Sean Payton in a chat with reporters over the weekend.

Jeudy was frequently mentioned in the trade rumors for the better part of the season, while many believed that Sutton would also be available for the right price. After relinquishing their top picks for quarterback Russell Wilson and Payton in consecutive seasons, the Broncos lack draft capital, and the talented duo might be the easiest option to get some.

But while Payton acknowledged that Denver received calls on the players, he reiterated that the team wants to keep them in the building.

“Those are two good football players. But we’re in the business of gathering talent right now,” said Payton. “Why do people call? Because they know we’re void of draft picks and that we might because there was some discussions a year ago, I think, regarding Courtland. But we like the current group that we’re working with.”

Jeudy delivered his best season as a pro in 2022, being a rare bright spot for the struggling Broncos’ offense. He finished the campaign with 67 catches for 972 yards and six touchdowns; all career highs.

Sutton, on the other hand, is a former Pro Bowler who has struggled with inconsistency since tearing an ACL in 2020. However, he is an experienced player who is still young enough at 27 to bounce back and recapture the form from the early point of his career.

The Denver Broncos will manage to keep their star wideout Courtland Sutton out of free agency next offseason. According to multiple reports, the Broncos signed Sutton to an extension that runs through 2025.

Sutton’s new deal is reportedly worth $60.8 million and comes with $34.9 million guaranteed money. The 2018’s second-round pick out of SMU was previously playing in the final year of his rookie contract.

Sutton has been performing at a high level for Denver this season despite missing all but one game in 2020 due to an ACL injury. The 26-year-old currently has 43 receptions and 671 receiving yards to lead the Broncos in both categories while also coming down with two touchdowns.

Overall, Sutton has had 160 receptions for 2,499 yards and 12 touchdowns since becoming a pro. He was a Pro Bowler in 2019 when he posted all career-highs with 72 catches, 1,112 receiving yards, and 6 TDs.

Sutton is the second Denver’s wide receiver to get an extension in the past several days. Over the weekend, the franchise also locked veteran Tim Patrick to a new deal. Patrick, who has 37 receptions for 523 yards and four TDs in 2021, received $30 million over the next four years.

The Broncos now have all their top three wideout options on long-term contracts. Jerry Jeudy, the team’s No. 15 selection in 2020, is tied to the franchise at least through 2024.

Luckily for Denver, however, Sutton’s injury isn’t expected to be serious. While the 24-year-old wideout is questionable for the season opener against Tennessee Titans on Monday, he should be ready for action in Week 2.

Sutton reportedly suffered the injury at Thursday’s practice while going for a catch. He underwent an MRI later, which didn’t show any structural damage.
