The New York Yankees and two-time AL Cy Young Awards winner Corey Kluber have reportedly agreed to a one-year deal that will put the former Cleveland star in pinstripes.

Kluber was traded to the Texas Rangers last offseason in the last year of his contract and appeared in only one game after suffering a torn Teres muscle in his only start.

He hit free agency this winter in an uncertain market after pitching in only eight games over the past two seasons, a stark fall after he was consistently one of the top pitchers in the Majors between 2014 and 2018.

Now, Kluber will look to get healthy again and regain his status as a dominant starter on a one year deal valued at $11 million with a team with World Series aspirations in 2021.

The Yankees, who dealt with plenty of rotation uncertainty last season due to injuries and a lack of depth, will hope that Kluber can find the form that saw him win at least 18 games in 4 of the 5 seasons during his stretch of dominance.

The deal is expected to be made official at some point this week, and Kluber will report to Yankees Spring Training next month.

One of the biggest offseason dominoes this year in Major League Baseball fell as the Texas Rangers agreed to acquire starting pitcher Corey Kluber in a blockbuster deal with the Cleveland Indians.

Kluber, a two-time AL Cy Young winner during his tenure with Cleveland, will head to the AL West in exchange for outfielder Delino DeShields Jr. and minor league pitcher Emmanuel Clase.

The Rangers, who missed out in the sweepstakes for some big free agent names such as Anthony Rendon last week, made a trade that brings one of baseball’s most accomplished pitchers to their rotation for at least the next couple of years.

Kluber, a three-time All Star selection, missed the majority of the 2019 season with a pair of major injuries. First, the Alabama native suffered a broken arm on May 1st after being hit with a line drive, and then shortly after he returned, he was shelved for the rest of the season with an oblique injury.

The Rangers are betting on Kluber getting back to good health and returning to the form that saw him be one of the game’s most dominant arms throughout several years.

Kluber is expected to report healthy to Texas’s Spring Training facility in February to get started with his new club.

The Cleveland Indians were dealt a huge blow on Wednesday when star pitcher Corey Kluber was forced to leave his start against the Miami Marlins after suffering a fractured right forearm.

Kluber, a two-time winner of the AL Cy Young Award and the anchor of Cleveland’s staff, will be forced to miss a large chunk of time as he waits for his pitching forearm to heal.

The injury compounds existing injury problems in the team’s rotation, as Mike Clevinger is already on the injured list with a back problem that will keep him sidelined until June.

Kluber suffered the injury after Marlins right fielder Brian Anderson hit a line drive at 103 mph towards the pitcher. The ball gave his forearm a direct hit, and Kluber left the game immediately after being examined by team trainers.

The team announced after the game that the 33-year-old had suffered a non-displaced ulna fracture and that it was still unclear how much time he would have to miss.

The Indians ended up losing the game 4-2 to the cellar-dwelling Marlins, turning the night from bad to worse.

Cleveland must now dig deep into their pitching depth in order to replace Kluber, and they’ll hope that he will be able to come back before the end of the season.

Cleveland Indians are looking to trim down their salary bill in the offseason, and have reportedly noticed other MLB teams that they are willing to listen to offers for several of their accomplished veteran players.

According to ESPN‘s Buster Onley, Indians will keep the third baseman Jose Ramirez and shortstop Francisco Lindor, but are willing to part ways with 2017 Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber, 2017 AL wins leader Carlos Carrasco, All-Star catcher Yan Gomes, and three-time All-Star slugger Edwin Encarnaci贸n and several other players for the right price.

Corey Kluber is set to make $17 million in 2019, while the Cleveland Indians hold team options on his contract for 2020 and 2021. He should be one of the easiest players to move, given the fact that he is playing on a high level on a team-friendly contract. Kluber was 20-7 in 2018 and had 222 strikeouts and 2.89 ERA.

Moving Edwin Encarnacion, however, will be more demanding task considering the big contract that is set to pay him $21.67 million in 2019. Encarnacion had 32 home runs and .246 batting average in 2018.

The Cleveland Indians had concerns with their payroll for a while now, and they feel they need to act before it gets too big. Big payroll is especially becoming a pressing issue for the team since they are among the worst teams in MLB when it comes to attendance. Because of salary management, the team didn’t tender qualifying offers to Michael Brantley, Andrew Miller and Cody Allen.
