Sacramento Kings are getting a veteran addition for their young team ahead of the NBA season resume in Orlando. According to The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Kings agreed to a deal with veteran Corey Brewer.

Brewer will join the Kings during the NBA’s transaction window that will remain open until the end of June. The 34-year-old, who hasn’t played in 2019/20, reportedly had several other offers but opted for Sacramento.

Corey Brewer earned a reputation of a journeyman in recent seasons, spending time with LA Lakers, Oklahoma City Thunder, Philadelphia 76ers, and Sacramento Kings between 2017 and 2019. Brewer last played with the Kings during 2018/19 seasons, appearing in 24 games in which he averaged 4.1 points, 2.5 rebounds, and 1.2 assists per game.

Brewer, who was the seventh overall pick in 2007, left the biggest mark in Minnesota, where he played six seasons with Timberwolves. He also dressed up for Denver Nuggets and Houston Rockets while being part of the Dallas Mavericks championship-winning team in 2011.

Sacramento Kings hope that the addition of Brewer and his veteran leadership will help the team in the upcoming race for the playoff spot in the Western Conference. Kings are currently 3.5 games behind the Memphis Grizzlies at No.8 and will have eight regular-season games to catch them once the NBA resumes its activities next month. It is important to note that Portland Trail Blazers and New Orleans Pelicans have the same record as Sacramento and are also looking to get the last postseason place.

According to ESPN‘s Adrian Wojnarowski, Corey Brewer and Los Angeles Lakers have agreed to a contract buyout. This will allow Brewer, who won an NBA championship with Dallas Mavericks in 2011, to sign with a playoff team.

According to multiple sources, the main contender for Brewer’s signature is Oklahoma City Thunder. He would be rejoined with Billy Donovan, who coached him at University of Florida, from 2004 to 2007. Despite the Thunder being a viable option, Brewer will also have meetings with other teams as well.

Corey Brewer played his college basketball with the Florida Gators, winning back-to-back NCAA national championships (2006 and 2007). He then declared for 2007 NBA Draft, where Minnesota Timberwolves took him with the seventh overall pick. After a solid rookie season, Brewer suffered a torn ACL injury and had to miss almost the entire season. He entered the 2009–10 NBA season as a starter for Timberwolves and ended up playing some of the best basketball in his career. Brewer was traded the next season to the New York Knicks as a part of Carmelo Anthony trade but was waived immediately. He ended up signing with the Dallas Mavericks in 2011, helping them win an NBA Championship.

After his stint with the Mavericks came to an end, he played for Denver Nuggets, Timberwolves, and Houston Rockets before landing in Los Angeles. This season, Corey Brewer averaged 3.7 points, and 1.7 rebounds while playing 12.9 minutes per game for the Lakers.
