It looks like the two times All-Star center fielder Charlie Blackmon will remain with the Colorado Rockies for years to come. The Rockies announced on Wednesday that they have agreed to a six-year deal extension with Blackmon, which could see the player remaining with the team through 2023 if Blackman decides to use his player options for the last two years of the contract. Blackman’s previous deal with the Rockies was set to expire after 2018 season.

Although the team didn’t reveal the financial terms of the agreement, ESPN reports that the deal is worth $106 million, while the overall value could be around $116 million with options and incentives included.

I’m very proud,” – said Blackmon after signing the deal. “It’s really hard to play in the big leagues. It’s very hard. For that reason, I think there are a lot of very talented guys that struggle to get the at-bats or the playing time that they need to reach their potential. I’ve been thankful enough to have those at-bats and be able to play enough baseball and keep getting better and learning more about my body and how to play the game is important. That’s part of what drives me.

Rockies general manager Jeff Bridich said that there were several reasons why the team gave Blackmon contract extension including the fact that he is one of the elite players in the game now and that he has spent his entire professional career with the organization.

Charlie Blackmon already started paying off this big contract. In the first five games of the 2018 season, the 31-year-old hit four home runs and has a batting average of .316.

Former Chicago Cubs reliever Wade Davis has signed a three-year contract with Colorado Rockies, the team announced on Friday. According to ESPN‘s sources, the deal is worth $52 million. Davis will get $16 million in 2018, $18 million in 2019 and $17 million in 2020. In case Davis finishes 30 games in the last year of his contract, he will have a vesting player option and will earn $15 million if he picks it up.

The 32-year-old right-hander had 32 saves for the Cubs in the 2017 regular season, adding four more in the postseason. He also posted 2.30 ERA with 79 strikeouts during the regular season. The Cubs were only willing to give a two-year deal to Davis, so he decided to go with the offer from the Rockies. Since Cubs gave Davis a qualifying offer, they will get a compensatory pick in 2018 MLB Draft, while the Rockies will lose their third-highest pick in the same draft.

Davis will be welcomed to the Rockies by pitching coach Steve Foster, with whom he already worked when he was a member of Kansas City Royals. Besides getting a good player, the Rockies also acquired someone who can be a mentor for younger relievers.

He doesn’t give in.” – said Carl Edwards Jr. about Davis. “He’s the same guy every day. He goes out there and does what he has to do. He’s a really big part of the team, and the bullpen, especially. He comes in and there’s no second thoughts, just go right after guys.

Previously, Colorado Rockies resigned Jake McGee on a three-year, $27 million contract, and brought in former Cleveland Indians pitcher Bryan Shaw. The team is also working on resigning Greg Holland, who was tied for second most saves (41) in the MLB in 2017.
