Cleveland Browns continue to trade away their former first-round picks. On Saturday, they confirmed that they had traded wide receiver Corey Coleman, 15 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, to the Buffalo Bills. In exchange, Bills will send a seventh-round pick in 2020 draft to Cleveland. Bills’ confirmed the trade on their official social media.

It hadn’t worked out in Cleveland probably the way he thought when he was drafted or the way they thought when they drafted him in the first round,” – said Bills general manager Brandon Beane after the trade. “So it’s a fresh start for him to come in here and compete. He’s not gonna automatically get anything. He’s gotta come in here and compete.”

Bills’ were looking for reinforcement to their receiving core for a while now. Kelvin Benjamin emerged as their top receiver in the training camp, while the 2017 second-round pick Zay Jones should be ready for the start of the season. Still, the team wasn’t satisfied with how to rest of the group performed and decided to add Corey Coleman to the mix.

Despite being a productive college player, Coleman couldn’t translate his game to the pros. In his rookie season, he managed to catch 33 passes for 413 yards and three touchdowns in 10 games he played. Last season, he missed seven games due to an injury and played eight in which he had 23 passes for 305 yards and two touchdowns.

Donald Stephenson’s stint with the Cleveland Browns didn’t last long. After signing the 29-year-old offensive tackle in March, the Browns now placed him on the reserve/retired list. This comes after Stephenson received two games suspension in June for the league’s policy on substances of abuse.

Donald Stephenson signed a one-year, $2.5 million with the Browns and was expected to compete for the starting offensive tackle position. Despite this, Stephenson didn’t take part in any of the Browns’ team activities since inking the deal, including OTAs, voluntary workouts or minicamp. Because of this, Browns are not required to pay any of the player’s salary, which also won’t count against their 2018 salary cap. The team recently signed Greg Robinson as the replacement for Stephenson.

After playing college football at Oklahoma and earning All-Big 12 Honorable Mention in 2011, Donald Stephenson was selected in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He spent four years with the Chiefs, in which he started 21 games. He then signed a two-year deal with the Denver Broncos in 2016, which was worth $14 million with $10 million. Stephenson played 80 career games in the NFL and started 37 of them.

Pittsburg Steelers, New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, and Atlanta Falcons are some of the NFL teams you would think of when discussing league’s best-receiving corps. But according to Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon, his team should also be in the mix. As a matter of fact, Gordon already thinks that the Browns have the best receiving corps in NFL.

I think we’re the best receiving corps in the league, in my opinion, already,” – Gordon told reporters on Tuesday. “Just based off of talent alone. So you put in the playbook and guys that are hungry enough to go do it, and hopefully, we can go out there and show and prove that. That’s just my opinion, but we’re not short on talent at the wide receiver position at all. Not at all.

His teammate and fellow WR, Jarvis Landry, shares the same opinion.

He ain’t lying.” – said Landry when asked about Gordon’s comments.

While no one denies that Cleveland Browns’ receiving corps is talented, there are still lots of things that need to fall in place for it to be successful. First one is that Josh Gordon manages to stay out of trouble and play an entire season.

Since 2013, when he had 1,646 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games, Gordon managed to play only 10 games due to various violations of the league’s substance-abuse policy. He was limited to five games in 2014 and then spent more than two years out of the league, before coming back in late 2017. In five games he played in the last season, Gordon had 335 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Jarvis Landry, on the other hand, is much safer bet. In 2017 season, playing for Miami Dolphins, Landry was NFL receptions leader with 112, which counted for 987 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

Besides Gordon and Landry, Cleveland Browns’ receiving corps also has Corey Coleman, Ricardo Louis, Antonio Callaway, Jeff Janis, Rashard Higgins, Damion Ratley, and C.J. Board.

Cleveland Browns running back Duke Johnson has been one of the team’s most consistent players in the past season, so it is fitting that he receives a reward for his performances. Brown announced on Thursday that they have sign Johnson to a 3-year contract extension worth $15.6 million. According to NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport, the deal includes has $7.7 million guaranteed and includes $5 million signing bonus.

Duke Johnson is a good football player. His hard work and commitment to the Browns organization are appreciated and we are excited to extend his contract and keep him in a Browns uniform for years to come,” – said Brown’ general manager John Dorsey. “Duke is an excellent representative our organization. He leads by example and we look forward to him playing an important role with the Cleveland Browns moving forward.”

Duke Johnson, who was selected by the Browns in the third round of 2015 NFL  Draft, had 348 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns in the 2017 season adding  693 receiving yards from 74 receptions, and three receiving touchdowns.

I’m excited. It’s fun to see how this team is shaping out and I want to be a part of it.” – said Johnson after signing the deal. “You can see it with the guys they brought in on offense like Tyrod (Taylor) and (Jarvis) Landry plus the guys we already had. I think bringing in coach (Todd) Haley adds another dimension to our offense and it gives coach (Hue) Jackson the chance to be the head coach. John Dorsey has been bringing in guys that can play, that can ball, and that gives us a chance. Now it’s about going out and doing it now.

The first round of the 2018 NFL Draft wrapped up on Thursday night and treated us with some major surprises. For that, we have to thank Cleveland Browns, who had the first and fourth overall pick.

With the first overall pick, Browns indeed took a quarterback, but not USC’s Sam Darnold like everyone thought. Instead, they went with a more polarizing figure in Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield. Entering the draft, Mayfield was considered only the fourth best QB in this draft class, behind Darnold, UCLA’s Josh Rosen and Wyoming’s Josh Allen. Still, the Browns general manager John Dorsey decided to bet on Mayfield’s upside that could be huge if he can overcome his off the field behavior and the fact that he is undersized for a quarterback position.

This is a guy who has earned everything he has,” – said Dorsey said. “He knows how to play and knows how to win.”

He was the best college quarterback this year, by far, in our opinion,” – added Browns’ coach Hue Jackson.

Baker Mayfield, the Heisman Trophy winner in 2017, ended his senior season at Oklahoma completing 262 passes out of 369, which counted for 4,340 passing yards and 41 touchdowns.

After the Browns, New York Giants were on the clock selecting Penn State’s running back Saquon Barkley with the second overall pick, while their cross-town rivals, New York Jets, selected Sam Darnold with the third overall pick.

Once again the Cleveland Browns were on the clock, and once again they delivered a surprise in the 2018 NFL Draft by passing on NC State’s defensive end Bradley Chubb, who was considered to be the best player in the draft. Instead, they went on and selected cornerback Denzel Ward. Unlike the Browns, Denver Broncos didn’t think too much and drafted Chubb fifth overall.
