The Cleveland Browns have Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson as their quarterback of the future, but that future most likely won’t start in Week 1 of the 2022 season. With Watson expected to receive a lengthy suspension due to off-the-field issues, the Browns are looking into ways to expand their QB room.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Browns brought in quarterbacks Josh Rosen and AJ McCarron for a workout on Thursday. While there is a possibility of both staying around for the training camp, Rosen seems to have already impressed Cleveland’s coaching staff and will ink a one-year deal.

Rosen entered the league in the 2018 NFL Draft as a 10th overall pick but had a rough time so far in the league. He spent time with five organizations in the past four years and failed to last anywhere longer than a season. He was a backup for the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, seeing the field in four games as a relief and completing two passes out of 11 attempted.

On the other hand, McCarron is a career backup who played for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Houston Texans in the past. The 31-year-old player was also with the Falcons last year but spent the entire campaign on the sidelines after tearing his ACL during the preseason.

If Watson ends up being suspended, the Cleveland Browns will most likely have Jacoby Brissett as their Week 1 starter. Brissett signed on to be Watson’s backup in the offseason after playing for the Miami Dolphins last year.

Quarterback Baker Mayfield confirmed on Monday night that he is set to undergo shoulder surgery to repair his torn labrum in his non-throwing left shoulder. Since first incurring the injury in week 2 of the regular season, Mayfield has continued to represent the Cleveland Browns on the field. It is only now that the Browns are out of contention for a playoff spot that Mayfield has decided to have the surgery.

“Now it’s time for me to start looking at what’s in the best interest of me and my health,” Mayfield stated following his team’s 26-14 loss at the Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday. During the game, Mayfield was at one point unable to complete a pass on 10 consecutive throws; the longest streak since 2019.

With his surgery in the pipeline, Mayfield revealed that he is still unsure of whether or not he will play in the Browns’ home game against Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. He will consult with his family and agent before coming to a decision.

In addition to his shoulder troubles, Mayfield struggled with a right knee contusion as well as left foot soreness earlier on in the season.

The Cleveland Browns ended the NFL’s longest playoff drought on Sunday with a 24-22 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Browns improved to an 11-5 record with this victory, clinching the postseason spot for the first time since 2002.

The Browns entered the Steelers’ game as an overwhelming favorite thanks to the fact that Pittsburgh rested some of their starters, including quarterback Ben Roethlisberger. Cleveland’s job, however, turned out to be much harder than expected.

The Browns put up a good show in the first three quarters and had a 9-24 lead early in the fourth. Still, the Steelers didn’t have any intention to give up.

Led by backup Mason Rudolph, Pittsburgh scored touchdowns on consecutive possessions to cut into the Browns’ lead. After the second TD, they opted for a 2-point conversion to make it level, but Rudolph couldn’t find anyone open in the endzone.

The Steelers tried to get the ball back with an onside kick but failed to recover it, which gave Cleveland a chance to put an end to the game with a first down. And that came soon enough with Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield taking the ball past the marker and giving his team an enormous win.

“I’m really just happy for our fans,” said Cleveland head coach Kevin Stefanski. “They deserve this. And we’re happy to deliver this to them.”

“We’re not satisfied,” Mayfield added. “We expected to be here. We worked extremely hard to get here, and we’re excited to have the chance to be in the playoffs.”

The Browns will play the Steelers again on Sunday, this time in the first round of the playoffs. Curiously, the Browns’ last postseason appearance also came against Pittsburgh, with the Steelers getting the 36-33 win.

NFL preseason games are a good way for teams to see new players in action and try out different game plans in a friendly atmosphere. That was the case with a recent preseason game between Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins, which featured even a courtesy heads up from the Browns’ side.

According to Cleveland’s quarterbacks’ coach Ryan Lindley, they informed the Redskins that they will use no-huddle offense for the opening drive of the game.

“We let them know pregame,” – said Lindley via Cleveland.com. “That was the deal. In the preseason, we didn’t necessarily want to go blitzkrieg on and catch them off guard. I don’t know how it went down. I just know we talked about like, ‘Hey, you know, the referees knew; the other team knew, and everybody was on board.'”

Despite knowing their opponent’s plans, Washington couldn’t stop the Browns and their young quarterback star Baker Mayfield. The 24-year-old led his team down the field in an impressive way, needing only seven plays to cover 86 yards. The drive culminated with Mayfield throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Rashard Higgins.

Cleveland’s performance becomes even more impressive when you know that the team didn’t have their two-star receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry on the field.

After the first successful drive, Browns took control of the game and cruised to a 30-10 win.

Mayfield replaced Tyrod Taylor last Thursday and displayed an impeccable performance that helped Cleveland end a winless run that had lasted for 635 days.

“He’s the starting quarterback of this football team,” coach Jackson said of Mayfield. “We know it’s a long season, all kind of things can happen. Baker Mayfield is the starting quarterback of this team.”

The rookie responded to the news by expressing his joy at getting the opportunity by earning it the hard way.

“You want to have to work for it. You’ve got to earn it,” Mayfield said. “Success is so much more fun when you have to work for it.”

Explaining why he is replacing Taylor with Mayfield, Jackson said the rookie had “checked off every box for me.”

“There was nothing that I saw that he wasn’t ready to hand. He checked off every box, Jackson said.” “This is sooner than when I thought it would happen because I thought we would play much better earlier on offense and we didn’t.”

In last week’s win, Mayfield completed 17 of 23 passes, helping a team trailing by 14 points to win the game 21-17. Taylor remains injured with a concussion problem. But even if cleared, he will be a backup quarterback for the rest of the season.

So, where does this optimism come from? Mostly from moves Cleveland Browns made in the offseason. First, the team fired the man who passed up on Deshaun Watson and brought in an experienced and capable general manager in John Dorsey. Yes, former GM Sashi Brown did draft Myles Garrett but that wasn’t much of a brainer, to be honest.

Dorsey immediately got to work and brought in Pro-Bowler and NFL’s leader in receptions, wide receiver Jarvis Landry, alongside former first-round pick Damarious Randall and quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Then, he finally found Browns’ franchise quarterback when he drafted Oklahoma’s Baker Mayfield with the first overall pick in 2018 NFL Draft.

Alongside Dorsey, Mayfield will also be one of the main reasons for Brown’s success in the future. Everyone who is remotely familiar with the NFL knows that the Browns didn’t have anything similar to a franchise quarterback since 1993 when they decided to part way with Bernie Kosar. Since drafting Kosar in 1985, the Browns drafted 14 quarterbacks and neither one of them proved to be a good choice. The franchise also had 24 quarterbacks starting at least one game since they were reinstated into the NFL in 1999. It is also worth noting that the Browns could and should draft the likes of Donovan McNabb, Drew Brees, Ben Roethlisberger, Carson Wentz, and Deshaun Watson but decided to pass on them.

The underlining problem with the Cleveland Browns and their 15 seasons playoff drought was the fact that they didn’t have a quarterback. That changed the moment Roger Goodell revealed that Baker Mayfield will be coming to Cleveland.

Mayfield was simply the best football choice despite his off the field issues. He has a strong arm, excellent understanding of the game and his accuracy is unparalleled. But most important of all; he is the type of player that energized his teammates. Mayfield is a vocal leader and that is just what the Browns roster needs to get moved and start playing good football. Pair him with receivers like Jarvis Landry and Josh Gordon, and the sky is the limit for the Browns.

Cleveland Browns have left their bad luck and disastrous decisions behind and they are seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. So don’t worry, the football is about to get a lot more fun in Cleveland.

Cleveland Browns are almost done with overhauling their quarterback group. The team announced on Friday that they have traded QB Kevin Hogan to the Washington Redskins alongside their 2018 draft sixth-round pick (205th overall) in exchange for the Redskins’ 2018 draft sixth-round pick (188th overall). According to NFL Network, Hogan made a trade request to the organization last week.

The Redskins are hoping that Kevin Hogan can become a reliable backup for Alex Smith, whom they acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs. The team also has veteran QB Colt McCoy on the roster, but he is entering the final year of his contract.

Cleveland Browns previously traded away QBs Cody Kessler to the Jacksonville Jaguars and DeShone Kizer to the Green Bay Packers. The team acquired Tyrod Taylor from the Buffalo Bills and signed free agent Drew Stanton as their replacements. It is expected that the Browns will also take a young prospect in this year’s draft, given that they own 1st and 4th overall pick. Jacksonville Jaguars went on Wednesday and made a trade with Cleveland Browns for quarterback Cody Kessler, securing the backup for their starting QB Blake Bortles. According to the reports, the Jags sent a conditional 2019 seventh-round draft pick to the Browns in exchange for Kessler.

Cody Kessler went on to his Twitter profile after the trade was announced, and wrote that he “can’t wait to get to Jacksonville and get started.”

Jarvis Landry represents a great coup for Cleveland Browns, who were in a need of a veteran wide receiver. He led the league in receptions last season with 112, has 987 receiving yards to go alongside 9 touchdowns. Landry was franchise tagged by the Dolphins on February 20, which means he is currently under a one-year, $15.982 million contract. It is expected, however, that the Browns will negotiate a long-term deal with Landry, and possibly make him one of the league’s highest-paid receivers.

Tyrod Taylor gives Browns a veteran quarterback, something that team lacked in the last season. Taylor played 15 games for the Bills in 2017, completing 62.6 of his passes (263 out of 420) for 2,799 yards, and managed 14 touchdowns alongside 4 interceptions.
Despite getting Taylor, Cleveland Browns are expected also to draft one of the talented quarterbacks in this year’s draft, possibly USC’s Sam Darnold or Wyoming’s Josh Allen.

The Canadian Football League has announced on Tuesday that former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is eligible for a 2018 contract. Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CLF currently hold the draft rights to Manziel and are required to offer him a contract or trade his rights until January 7th, 201. In case that doesn’t happen, Manziel will become a free agent. The league’s decision was confirmed by Tiger-Cats, although the team didn’t specify whether they’ll sign the former NFL first-round pick.

“We appreciate the CFL office and Commissioner Randy Ambrosie’s due diligence in this matter.” – said the Tiger-Cats in an official statement. “We also recognize Johnny Manziel for thus far demonstrating the attributes necessary to continue his career in our great league. We will have no further comment at this time.“

Johnny Manziel has been previously working out with Tiger-Cats. Although Manziel becoming a part of the team isn’t definitive, the Tiger-Cats head coach June Jones hopes that will be the case.

Cleveland Browns are almost done with overhauling their quarterback group. The team announced on Friday that they have traded QB Kevin Hogan to the Washington Redskins alongside their 2018 draft sixth-round pick (205th overall) in exchange for the Redskins’ 2018 draft sixth-round pick (188th overall). According to NFL Network, Hogan made a trade request to the organization last week.

The Redskins are hoping that Kevin Hogan can become a reliable backup for Alex Smith, whom they acquired from the Kansas City Chiefs. The team also has veteran QB Colt McCoy on the roster, but he is entering the final year of his contract.

Cleveland Browns previously traded away QBs Cody Kessler to the Jacksonville Jaguars and DeShone Kizer to the Green Bay Packers. The team acquired Tyrod Taylor from the Buffalo Bills and signed free agent Drew Stanton as their replacements. It is expected that the Browns will also take a young prospect in this year’s draft, given that they own 1st and 4th overall pick. So far the USC’s Sam Darnold and Wyoming’s Josh Allen are the most likely options.

Kevin Hogan was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in the fifth round of 2016 NFL Draft but ended up being released in September 2016 before making a single appearance. The Browns signed him for their practice squad shortly after, and eventually promoted him to the active squad. He was featured in four games and ended up the season with 104 passing yards alongside 105 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown. In 2017 season, he played in five games (one as a starter) and had 517 passing yards to go with four touchdowns.

Jacksonville Jaguars went on Wednesday and made a trade with Cleveland Browns for quarterback Cody Kessler, securing the backup for their starting QB Blake Bortles. According to the reports, the Jags sent a conditional 2019 seventh-round draft pick to the Browns in exchange for Kessler.

Cody Kessler went on to his Twitter profile after the trade was announced, and wrote that he “can’t wait to get to Jacksonville and get started.”

“We are excited about the opportunity to add Cody as depth to our quarterback position,” – said Jaguars GM Dave Caldwell about team’s newest acquisition. “From our research and through getting to know Cody during the draft process, we know he is a smart, tough and competitive young man, and we expect him to be a great addition to our quarterback and offensive meeting rooms.“

Jacksonville Jaguars lost their backup QB in the offseason when they made a decision not to extend Chad Henne’s contract. Henne was benched by the Jaguars in 2014 in favor of Blake Bortles and never started NFL again, playing three times as a relief in three years.

Cody Kessler was taken 93rd overall by the Cleveland Browns in 2016 NFL draft and went on to start in eight games in his rookie season due to injuries of other players. Kessler lost all of those eight games and was third-string quarterback for the team in 2017 season. With the acquisitions of Tyrod Taylor and Drew Stanton, alongside a strong possibility of taking a quarterback in the upcoming draft, it was only natural for Browns to move away from Kessler.

It looks like the Cleveland Browns are holding tightly to their draft picks, while teams like Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles were busy trading. On Friday, however, all of that changed. The Browns managed to finalize two big trades, acquiring wide receiver Jarvis Landry from Miami Dolphins and quarterback Tyrod Taylor from Buffalo Bills. The Dolphins got 2018 fourth-round and a 2019 seventh-round draft pick in exchange for Landry, while Bills settled for a third-round pick, No. 65 overall pick in 2018 NFL Draft.

This wasn’t the end of trading for the Browns, who also shipped away quarterback DeShone Kizer to Green Bay Packers in exchange for cornerback Damarious Randall, with the teams also swapping picks in the fourth and fifth rounds of the upcoming draft.

Jarvis Landry represents a great coup for Cleveland Browns, who were in a need of a veteran wide receiver. He led the league in receptions last season with 112, has 987 receiving yards to go alongside 9 touchdowns. Landry was franchise tagged by the Dolphins on February 20, which means he is currently under a one-year, $15.982 million contract. It is expected, however, that the Browns will negotiate a long-term deal with Landry, and possibly make him one of the league’s highest-paid receivers.

Tyrod Taylor gives Browns a veteran quarterback, something that team lacked in the last season. Taylor played 15 games for the Bills in 2017, completing 62.6 of his passes (263 out of 420) for 2,799 yards, and managed 14 touchdowns alongside 4 interceptions.
Despite getting Taylor, Cleveland Browns are expected also to draft one of the talented quarterbacks in this year’s draft, possibly USC’s Sam Darnold or Wyoming’s Josh Allen.

Finally, with Damarious Randall, the Browns will get a promising young cornerback, but who was greatly inconsistent during his three years in the league.

The Canadian Football League has announced on Tuesday that former Cleveland Browns quarterback Johnny Manziel is eligible for a 2018 contract. Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the CLF currently hold the draft rights to Manziel and are required to offer him a contract or trade his rights until January 7th, 201. In case that doesn’t happen, Manziel will become a free agent. The league’s decision was confirmed by Tiger-Cats, although the team didn’t specify whether they’ll sign the former NFL first-round pick.

“We appreciate the CFL office and Commissioner Randy Ambrosie’s due diligence in this matter.” – said the Tiger-Cats in an official statement. “We also recognize Johnny Manziel for thus far demonstrating the attributes necessary to continue his career in our great league. We will have no further comment at this time.“

Johnny Manziel has been previously working out with Tiger-Cats. Although Manziel becoming a part of the team isn’t definitive, the Tiger-Cats head coach June Jones hopes that will be the case.

“I think he’d be the best player to ever play up here,” – said Jones while speaking to the league’s official podcast. “He can throw it and he can run it like nobody ever has been able to do.“

Manziel spent his college football career with the Texas A&M Aggies, becoming the first freshman to win Heisman Trophy, Manning Award, and the Davey O’Brien National Quarterback Award in 2012. After another strong season in 2013, when he managed 4,114 yards and 37 touchdowns, he declared for 2014 NFL Draft. Although there were polarizing opinions about his capability to compete in NFL, the Cleveland Browns traded up and took him with the 22nd overall pick. He played 5 games in 2014, completing just 18 of his passes and having one rushing touchdown. In his second season, he managed 1,500 yards and seven touchdowns in 10 games played, but the Browns released him in March 2016.
