Cleveland Browns have finally had it with their troubled wide receiver Josh Gordon and will release or trade the 27-year-old in the coming days.

Initially, the Browns announced on Saturday that they will release Gordon after he reportedly showed up late for practice with a hamstring injury. The player injured himself on a promotional photo shoot which was not team sponsored according to multiple sources.

This afternoon we informed Josh Gordon and his representatives that we are going to release him on Monday,” – said Browns’ general manager John Dorsey in a statement on Saturday. “For the past six years, the Browns have fully supported and invested in Josh, both personally and professionally and wanted the best for him, but unfortunately we’ve reached a point where we feel it’s best to part ways and move forward. We wish Josh well.”

Insiders close to Cleveland Browns organization say that the team wanted to move on from Josh Gordon in order to finally start a culture change. Gordon had numerous off-field issues since he joined the Browns in 2012 including multiple violations of league’s substance abuse policy. He ended up missing 2014 and 2015 season while playing only 11 games since 2013 season. Browns supported Gordon through all of these years, but it looks like they gave up after these recent events.

Despite all the problems that surround Josh Gordon, there are still other NFL teams that would like to see him in their uniform. This is why the Browns decided against releasing Gordon on Monday as they initially planned, and are now looking into trade options with San Francisco 49ers and New England Patriots being among the most probable options.

Josh Gordon played in the Browns season opener against the Pittsburgh Steelers and had one catch for 17 yards and a touchdown.

Cleveland Browns enter the 2018 season with high hopes and determination to turn their bad luck around. They might be poised to do so, especially since their star wide receiver Josh Gordon is once again with the team. The 27-year-old previously missed the majority of Browns’ training camp in order to focus on his mental health.

There were a lot of questions surrounding Gordon since he returned, especially those considering his fitness level and ability to contribute at the start of the season. The player tried to answer some of them during his media session, saying that he is feeling great, but that is on the coaches to determine the best workload for him.

I’m going as much as they tell me to go,” – Gordon told reporters Wednesday. “If they tell me to sit out for a period of time, I do as I’m told. It’s just great being in this atmosphere. Fortunately, I know the plays already, so it’s real good to take the mental reps, physical reps, as much as I can do I try to take advantage of it.

But, if you ask Flash Gordon for an opinion, he will tell you that he is ready to play as soon as Sunday when Browns meet with Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 1.

No, I told you guys before, I’ll be 100 percent,” – he said. “I feel 100 percent today and I’ll be 100 percent Sunday.

Cleveland Browns will hope this is true since they would really use a healthy and fit Josh Gordon, who can get them yards and TDs at will like he used to back in 2013.

Cleveland Browns’ wide receiver Josh Gordon rejoined the team after taking leave to focus “on his mental and physical health” a few weeks ago. Former Pro Bowler shared a statement on Twitter following his return, saying that he is thankful to “Browns and NFL family” for their “love, support, and patience” during the time he took off.

As I humbly return to being a member of this team with an opportunity to get back to playing this game I love, I realize in order for me to reach my full potential my primary focus must remain on my sobriety and mental well-being,” – the 27-year-old added.

Following Gordon’s return, Cleveland Browns coach Hue Jackson said that he never “lost trust” in the player and that he respects his decision to focus on his health.

I never lost trust in him,” – said Jackson on Saturday. “Obviously, he was doing something to make himself better and put himself in a better place, which I think is very important. I think the health part for him is real important, and I get that and respect that.

Josh Gordon left the Browns before the start of training camp, citing his” overall health and treatment plan” as the main reason. Gordon previously struggled with substance abuse, which caused him to play just 10 NFL games since 2013 due to various suspensions. Being sober now, he didn’t want to put in danger his future football career and decided to seek additional counseling for anxiety.

After his return, Browns placed Josh Gordon on the active/non-football injury list, but he is still not cleared to practice. According to team’s general manager John Dorsey, Gordon will participate in meetings and conditioning, and will gradually return to football activities.

Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon announced on Monday that he won’t be with the team once the training camp starts. In a statement released via his Twitter profile, Gordon said that his absence is part of his “overall health and treatment plan.”

Despite being one of the most talented WRs of his generation, Josh Gordon missed most of the last three seasons due to multiple suspensions for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, Gordon decided to seek further counseling that will help him with his mental health and anxiety.

After Gordon’s statement, Cleveland Browns placed the player on non-football illness reserve list.

“We will continue to support Josh as he receives the care needed to maintain his progress,” – said Browns’ general manager John Dorsey in a statement. “We are going to respect his privacy while he is away from the team.

Although there is no exact timetable for his return, Browns believe that Gordon will make good on his word and join the team once he’s ready.

After All-Pro campaign in 2013 season, Josh Gordon went on to play just 10 games for the Browns since 2014. Since Browns took him in the second round of the 2012 NFL Supplemental Draft, Gordon played 40 games in which he had 179 receptions for 3,089 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Pittsburg Steelers, New England Patriots, Philadelphia Eagles, and Atlanta Falcons are some of the NFL teams you would think of when discussing league’s best-receiving corps. But according to Cleveland Browns wide receiver Josh Gordon, his team should also be in the mix. As a matter of fact, Gordon already thinks that the Browns have the best receiving corps in NFL.

I think we’re the best receiving corps in the league, in my opinion, already,” – Gordon told reporters on Tuesday. “Just based off of talent alone. So you put in the playbook and guys that are hungry enough to go do it, and hopefully, we can go out there and show and prove that. That’s just my opinion, but we’re not short on talent at the wide receiver position at all. Not at all.

His teammate and fellow WR, Jarvis Landry, shares the same opinion.

He ain’t lying.” – said Landry when asked about Gordon’s comments.

While no one denies that Cleveland Browns’ receiving corps is talented, there are still lots of things that need to fall in place for it to be successful. First one is that Josh Gordon manages to stay out of trouble and play an entire season.

Since 2013, when he had 1,646 receiving yards and nine touchdowns in 14 games, Gordon managed to play only 10 games due to various violations of the league’s substance-abuse policy. He was limited to five games in 2014 and then spent more than two years out of the league, before coming back in late 2017. In five games he played in the last season, Gordon had 335 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Jarvis Landry, on the other hand, is much safer bet. In 2017 season, playing for Miami Dolphins, Landry was NFL receptions leader with 112, which counted for 987 receiving yards and nine touchdowns.

Besides Gordon and Landry, Cleveland Browns’ receiving corps also has Corey Coleman, Ricardo Louis, Antonio Callaway, Jeff Janis, Rashard Higgins, Damion Ratley, and C.J. Board.
