ESPN reported on Wednesday that Manchester United has inquired about the availability of Chelsea and US Men’s National Team player Christian Pulisic. The Red Devils are reportedly exploring the possibility of signing the player on a loan deal.

Although he still has two years left on his contract, Pulisic has reportedly grown frustrated at his lack of game time for the Blues. The midfielder played for just 30 minutes across Chelsea’s first two Premier League games, coming on as a substitute in both matches. Pulisic struggled with injury last season, starting in only 13 Premier League games.

Man Utd’s interest in Pulisic comes as the club scrambles to sign new talents before the close of the transfer window in a couple of weeks. Furthermore, the Red Devils appear desperate to turn their fortunes around after losing their first two Premier League games; the team’s worst-ever start to a Premier League season.

Juventus and Atletico Madrid have also expressed an interest in the player, with Newcastle United also believed to be monitoring the situation.

Chelsea’s willingness to let go of Pulisic may rest on the club’s ability to land a replacement. The Blues currently have their sights set on Barcelona striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Everton midfielder Anthony Gordon.

USMNT star Christian Pulisic was one of the key players for Chelsea this season, as the club managed to get to No.4 in the Premier League and secure a Champions League spot. However, it turns out that the 21-year-old winger could have easily starred for another English club.

Former Manchester United scout Jorge Alvial recently revealed that United had the opportunity to bring Pulisic while he was a youngster at Borussia Dortmund.

“When I first got hired one of the people that I recommended right away was Pulisic because I knew him and his background,” said Alvial in an interview with Manchester Evening News. “I knew how well he was developing in Dortmund, and he was just going to keep coming up, and become a superstar because he was doing very well.”

Alvial, who worked for two and a half years for Premier League giants, believes Man Utd passed on Pulisic because they thought he didn’t have what it takes to play on the big stage. 

“I think United, and I’m just guessing because I don’t know the reason, but it is the same mentality of ‘this kid is an American, is he really ready to play in the big league?'” he added.

Christian Pulisic ended up proving United wrong, as he reached success in two of the toughest soccer leagues in the world. Pulisic first emerged as one of Borussia’s most important players, making 127 appearances for the club in four years and scoring 19 goals. He did all this before turning 21.

This earned Pulisic a $75 million transfer to Chelsea last summer, where he already started showing he’s worth every penny despite battling injuries. He contributed 10 goals and 10 assists in the 2019/20 season.
