Arizona Cardinals dipped into Canadian Football League in order to find a backup for Kyler Murray. The team announced on Tuesday that they had signed quarterback Chris Streveler on a future contract for the 2020 NFL season.

Streveler spent the 2019 season with CFL’s Winnipeg Blue Bomber, with whom he won the Grey Cup. The 25-year-old is regarded as dual-threat QB, and according to Cardinals’ official website, he is a versatile player who is able to do the things Taysom Hill does with New Orleans Saints.

With his running game, Streveler should fit nicely in Arizona’s offense, especially since Murray, who is entering in his second year as a starter, also relies on his legs to make plays.

Chris Streveler played college football at Minnesota, where he spent three years, before going to South Dakota and playing two more years there. He won the MVFC Offensive Player of the Year while at South Dakota.

After wrapping up his college career, Streveler entered the 2018 NFL draft, where he went undrafted. He decided to try his chances in CFL, becoming Blue Bombers’ backup QB.

While his first year in Canada was solid, Streveler had a breakthrough season in 2019, emerging as a starter and finishing with 1,564 passing yards and eight touchdowns while adding 726 rushing yards and 12 TDs. These kinds of performances got him the attention of NFL teams and workouts with Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Miami Dolphins.
