“The impact Nick has already had on our team in such a short time is a testament to his work ethic and dedication to helping the players around him succeed,” Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson commented. “Hardworking on the ice, the energy he brings every night and his versatility to play in any situation have been tremendous assets.”

The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Wednesday that their standout rookie Connor Bedard will miss six and eight weeks as he recovers from jaw surgery.

Bedard suffered a broken jaw after taking a hit from New Jersey Devils’ Brendan Smith in the Blackhawks’ 4-2 loss last week.

During a chat with reporters, Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson said that the longer timeline for Bedard’s recovery is a result of precaution by the medical team.

“I think they just are precautionary on a young guy having a trauma injury like that,” Richardson said. “I mean if it’s earlier, great, but I think that’s probably a normal timeline for what they were thinking of what the procedure they did.”

The Blackhawks can afford to take a cautious approach, considering they were unlikely to compete for a spot in the Stanley Cup Playoffs even before Bedard got hurt. They are currently sitting at the bottom of the Central Division with the second-worst record in the league at 12-27-2.

The injury brings to a pause Bedard’s outstanding rookie campaign. He was leading all rookies with 15 goals and 18 assists while also securing an All-Star nod. The first-overall pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft was set to become the youngest player featured in an All-Star game at 18 years and 201 days.

The Chicago Blackhawks star Taylor Hall is set to undergo surgery to repair his right knee and will miss the rest of the season as a result, the team announced on Thursday. Blackhawks coach Luke Richardson confirmed that the five-time NHL All-Star suffered an ACL injury.

“He’s very disappointed,” Richardson commented. “But it just came from [an] accumulation of a bunch of little injuries in the game and even in practice the other day. It just became unstable that we have to fix that now.” Hall was injured when taking a hit by Tampa Bay Lightning’s Michael Eyssimont during the Blackhawks’ 5-3 win on November 9.

Hall’s absence will prove to be a major setback for the Blackhawks, given that the former Hart Trophy winner has scored two goals and four assists in 10 games. The Blackhawks entered Thanksgiving with a 5-12-0 record.

The Chicago Blackhawks continued their busy offseason on Monday by acquiring former Hart Trophy winner Taylor Hall in a trade with the Boston Bruins.

As part of the deal, Blackhawks will also get rights to forward Nick Foligno, who is set to hit the unrestricted free agency. On the other hand, the Bruins received a duo of pending unrestricted free-agent defensemen in, Ian Mitchell and Alec Regula.

While his production has in recent seasons, Taylor Hall can still be considered a coup for the Blackhawks. He is fairly young at the age of 31 and might rediscover some of his past form. Hall had 16 goals and a total of 36 points in 61 games with the Bruins in 2022-23.

The Blackhawks probably hope that Hall’s experience will help their young team, which is looking to establish itself as a contender in the next few years. Hall played for five different franchises so far in his NHL career and has five All-Star nods to go with the NHL MVP award he won in 2018.

The Bruins, on the other hand, likely just wanted to get rid of Hall’s contract that will pay him $6 million in each of the following two seasons. The team gets some much-needed flexibility, going from $5 million under the cap to $11 million they can work with this offseason.

The Chicago Blackhawks’ rebuild got a major boost on Monday night when the franchise won the NHL lottery. The Blackhawks will now get to select first overall in the upcoming 2023 NHL Entry Draft.

The Blackhawks finished the 2022-23 NHL season with a 26-49-7 record and had the third-best odds in the NHL lottery at 11.5%. The Anaheim Ducks, who had the best odds for the No. 1 pick at 25.5%, will select second, while the Columbus Blue Jackets (13.5%) got the third overall pick.

After missing out on the playoffs in consecutive seasons, the Chicago Blackhawks opted for a rebuild in 2022-23, moving away from several veterans. This included trading the franchise legend Patrick Kane ahead of the NHL trade deadline and opting against re-signing captain Jonathan Toews.

The Blackhawks now have the opportunity to select the future franchise cornerstone they can build around and work towards returning to the Stanley Cup finals for the first time since 2014–15.

Center Connor Bedard is considered the top prospect in the 2023 class. Bedard played the 2022–23 season with the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey League, totaling 143 points (71 goals and 72 assists) in just 57 games. The list of other notable talents includes Adam Fantilli, Leo Carlsson, and Will Smith.

“I’m a little bit speechless to be honest, but really, really excited,” said Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson after the lottery. “Anytime you can add elite talent like we’ll be able to add in this draft with the first overall selection, it’s a monumental thing. I’m really excited for the fan base and the city.”

After his New York Rangers were eliminated from the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs, All-Star winger Patrick Kane is now turning his focus to his upcoming free agency. Kane told reporters on Wednesday that he is already thinking about a potential destination for the 2023-24 season while also revealing that a reunion with the Chicago Blackhawks is unlikely.

According to Kane, returning to Chicago, where he spent 15 years before being traded to the Rangers in February, doesn’t seem like an option for him.

“I haven’t really thought about that, to be honest with you,” Kane said when asked about a potential reunion. “They’re rebuilding, and so that’s really never crossed my mind.”

Kane is much more open to returning to the Rangers, where he had an “amazing experience.” The 34-year-old Kane played 19 games with the New York team in the regular season and contributed five goals and seven assists. He also had six points in seven postseason games.

“I would love to be back,” Kane added. “I feel like with this team and this opportunity; I would love that chance.”

It remains to be seen whether Kane gets his wish. After another disappointing playoffs exit, the Rangers are expected to make some big changes in their organization and might decide that keeping an expensive veteran on their roster isn’t the best long-term strategy.

Patrick Kane played 1,161 games with the Blackhawks and is considered a franchise legend. He helped the franchise win three Stanley Cups while earning a number of individual honors, including nine All-Star appearances and the Hart Memorial Trophy.

The Chicago Blackhawks seem to have made peace with losing the franchise legend Patrick Kane. According to multiple reports, the Blackhawks are putting the finishing touches on a trade that will see Kane move to the New York Rangers.

The trade with the Rangers isn’t an easy one as it requires the New York team to make some significant salary cap-clearing moves as well as the inclusion of a third team. However, it is Kane’s preferred destination, meaning the parties are committed to finding a way to make it work.

Kane had a lukewarm start to the 2022-23 NHL campaign, but his form has recently picked up, with seven goals and three assists in the last five games. He has 16 goals and 29 assists so far in the season.

Expecting his future to be resolved in the coming days, Kane decided to stay away from the team. While the Blackhawks are entering the second game of their four-game road trip but Kane has already returned to Chicago. The news was confirmed by both the team’s head coach Luke Richardson and Kane’s agent Pat Brisson.

“Based on the current status of Patrick’s situation, we collectively felt it was more appropriate to have him not play during this period of reflection,” Brisson told reporters on Saturday.

Patrick Kane spent all of his 15 and a half seasons in the NHL with the Blackhawks. During that time, he helped the franchise win three Stanley Cups while adding numerous individual accolades, including nine All-Star nods and Hart Memorial Trophy as NHL’s MVP in 2016.

The Chicago Blackhawks made a significant roster shakeup on Thursday, trading their All-Star forward Alex DeBrincat to the Ottawa Senators. The Blackhawks will receive three draft pick in exchange, which, in theory, should aid their rebuild efforts.

The package coming to Chicago includes the seventh overall pick and No. 39 selection in the 2022 NHL Draft. They will also get the third round in 2024.

The Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson described the decision to trade DeBrincat as “incredibly difficult” but said that he believes the move will benefit the organization in the long run.

“We feel as if this move sets the Blackhawks up for future success by giving us additional flexibility and future talent,” Davidson said in a team-released statement.

The Chicago Blackhawks have been stuck in NHL purgatory since they lifted the Stanley Cup in 2014–15. The franchise has made the postseason three times since then but failed to advance past the first round. The Blackhawks also failed to reach 30 wins in the past two seasons, prompting the organization to take the rebuild path.

Alex DeBrincat spent all of his five years in the NHL with the Blackhawks. He earned his first All-Star nod in 2021-22 after scoring 41 goals and adding 37 assists for a career-high 78 points. DeBrincat played a total of 368 games in the league and contributed 307 points.

The Chicago Blackhawks appear to be set on the Montreal Canadiens’ assistant Luke Richardson as their new head coach. While the team hasn’t officially confirmed the news, multiple reports say that the two sides only have minor details to settle out before making it public.

The Blackhawks fired head coach Jeremy Colliton early in the 2021-22 season and decided to wrap up the campaign with Derek King leading the team on an interim basis. King posted a 27-33-10 record as Chicago finished seventh in the Central Division.

Luke Richardson will bring a wealth of experience to the Blackhawks organization thanks to his experience. The 53-year-old, who played as a defenseman in the NHL for 21 seasons, got his coaching start with the Ottawa Senators, where he spent three years as an assistant. He then served as a head coach of AHL’s Binghamton Senators from 2012 to 2016.

After leaving the Senators in 2017, Richardson spent one year with the New York Islanders as an assistant before joining the Canadiens organization. He later got his first taste of head coaching in the NHL in Montreal, stepping in after Dominique Ducharme tested positive for COVID-19 during the Stanley Cup Semi-Finals. Richardson would go on to lead the Canadiens to Stanley Cup Finals before giving the team back to Ducharme.

The Chicago Blackhawks seem to have fallen out of love with talented but inconsistent center Dylan Strome. According to Blackhawks beat writer Ben Pope, the team wants to move Strome and is already engaged in trade talks with interested parties.

TSN’s Pierre LeBrun previously shared a similar sentiment, reporting that Strome might be out of Chicago as soon as next week.

Strome had just 17 points in 40 games in 2020-21, and the struggling campaign, as well as the emergence of other players, caused him to slip down the Blackhawks depth chart. With a fourth line being a realistic option for the 24-year-old this season, it makes sense for Chicago to test the market for him.

There is a lot of interest in Strome around the league despite his poor outing last season. This isn’t a surprise, considering he delivered a 51-point campaign just two years ago. He is also on a fairly cheap contract that only pays $3 million in 2021-22.

The team that is frequently mentioned in trade rumors surrounding Strome is the Ottawa Senators, who are expected to be active on the market following Colin White’s injury. The Calgary Flames, the Seattle Kraken, and the New York Rangers are also believed to be in the mix.
