Chicago Blackhawks haven’t given up on the hope that they will have goalie Corey Crawford for the upcoming Stanley Cup Qualifiers. Crawford was deemed “unfit to play” at the start of training camp, but the team’s general manager Stan Bowman recently expressed optimism that things might change in the following days.

Blackhawks are currently scheduled to travel to Edmonton for NHL 2019/20 season resume on Sunday, and Bowman told reporters that he’s “hopeful” on Crawford taking part in the trip.

“We are hopeful on that,” Bowman told reporters on Tuesday. “I think we’ll be able to give you a better idea when we get closer to the weekend. But that’s something we’re still shooting for. I don’t have any definitive comments right now, but we’re still hoping that’s the case.”

However, Bowman explained that the team currently operates under the notion that their goalkeeping depth chart will comprise out of Malcolm Subban, Kevin Lankinen, Collin Delia, and Matt Tomkins.

“Right now Corey’s not here, so we’re focused on the other four goalies,” he added. “If and when Corey’s ready, then we’ll have that conversation. But I think it’s best to stick with where we are today, and not jump too far ahead.”

Corey Crawford spent his entire career with Chicago Blackhawks and was part of two Stanley Cup-winning rosters. He played 40 games this season, posting 16-20-3 with 2.77 goals-against average. Crawford’s .917 save percentage was fifth-best in NHL among goalies with 40+ games.

Chicago enters Stanley Cup Qualifiers as 12th seed and will face No.5 seed Edmonton Oilers in a best-of-five series. The winner will make the playoff cut.

Chicago Blackhawks announced on Wednesday that they have acquired forward Anthony Duclair and defenseman Adam Clendening from Arizona Coyotes, sending forwards Richard Panik and Laurent Dauphin in the opposite direction.

Duclair, who will become a restricted free agent in the summer, reportedly asked for a trade since he isn’t unsatisfied with his playing time. This season, he had 9 goals and 6 assists in 33 games for Coyotes, being restricted to 13:27 per game. The 22-year-old is seen as a great potential, managing 20 goals and 24 assists two years ago.

Clendening, on the other hand, already played for the Blackhawks in the 2014-2015 season, changing five NHL teams since.

It’s gone back for a few years now where the team wasn’t particularly happy with the player and the player wasn’t particularly happy with the team and we worked through some things, tried a lot of different approaches in a lot of different ways,” – said Coyotes’ general manager John Chayka about trading Duclair. “I hope he has success in Chicago and does good things.

I think we are on the same page in terms of a trade being best for both sides. John was great to deal with, and Anthony hopes the trade ends up working out for both sides.” – added the player’s agent Kent Hughes.

Richard Panik comes to Coyotes after a disappointing part of the season with the Blackhawks. Although he has six goals and 10 assists in 37 games, he was on 11 games stretch in which he didn’t score a single point. Despite this, the Coyotes think Panik will fit into the team.

Richard Panik is a big, skilled winger who is an excellent goal scorer,” – said Chayka. “He’s also a strong two-way forward with great speed and provides a veteran presence. He will be a nice addition to our forward group.

Just like Clendening, Laurent Dauphin will face familiar surroundings, having played for the Coyotes in the last season.
