New York Yankees pitcher CC Sabathia is looking to finish his professional career on a high end. Speaking with NY Post on Sunday, the 37-year-old left-hander said that he will retire after this season if Yankees go all the way and win the World Series.

I want one more parade and pretty sure that will be it,’‘ – said Sabathia. “I thought I had it last year.

CC Sabathia also told the Post that he would have retired last season if Yankees managed to win it all, but they ended up being defeated by Houston Astros in the American League Championship Series. Sabathia won his only World Series in 2009 during his first season with the Yankees. He is, alongside outfielder Brett Gardner and pitcher David Robertson, the only player still remaining on the 2018 roster from the 2009 championship generation.

CC Sabathia started his professional career with the Cleveland Indians, spending seven years with the organization and earning three All-Star appearances in the process. Indians traded Sabathia to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008, before the player decided to sign with the Yankees in 2009. He made an immediate impact on the team, helping them win the World Series and being named ALCS MVP in his first season. Since then the Yankees didn’t manage to reach the World Series.

On December 26, 2017, Sabathia signed a one-year, $10 million contract and expressed his desire to bring another championship in New York.

I feel like this is a young team, and we will turn this into something great,” – said Sabathia at the time. “This is my home, and I want to see this thing through.

Veteran pitcher CC Sabathia has agreed to return to the New York Yankees after his contract expired. He will sign a one year, $10 million deal with the team after he passes a physical, according to the MLB.com report. The figure is a sizable discount compared to the last five seasons when he earned $25 million per year. According to his agent Kyle Thousand, Sabathia returns to the Yankees because he has some “unfinished business” there.

CC feels there’s unfinished business to attend to,“- said Thousand to MLB. “There were competitive offers that CC was weighing, but in the end, CC wanted to come back and win a championship with the Yankees. He loves his teammates, the clubhouse and the moves the Yankees are making. He wants to bring home another championship to the Yankee fans.”

The 37-year-old met with other teams in recent weeks, including the Los Angeles Angels and the Toronto Blue Jays, but it looks like he wasn’t keen on leaving New York. After the loss in Game 7 of the American League championship, Sabathia confirmed he wants to stay with the Yankees.

I feel like this is a young team, and we will turn this into something great,” – he said. “This is my home, and I want to see this thing through.

After being drafted 20th overall in the 1998 MLB draft by the Cleveland Indians, Sabathia waited until 2011 to make his majors debut. He was the youngest player in the MLB at the time but finished second in the AL voting for Rookie of the Year. During his time with the Indians, Sabathia had three All-Star appearances before being traded to the Milwaukee Brewers in 2008. The following year he signed with the Yankees, with whom he won his first championship ring in 2009. During his career, Sabathia managed 237–146 record alongside 3.70 ERA.
