Indianapolis Colts finally received some positive news ahead of the 2021 NFL season. According to reports, the Colts are growing optimistic that they will have both quarterback Carson Wentz and Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson on their disposal for Week 1.

Wentz and Nelson underwent foot surgeries for similar injuries in early August, and the initial prognosis was that they will be out anywhere from five to 12 weeks. However, the duo is reportedly recovering faster than expected, and Indianapolis coaching staff now believes they will be ready to take the field for the season opener against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Colts will further re-evaluate their recovery timeline after they are two weeks removed from the surgery.

Colts acquired Carson Wentz in March, sending Philadelphia Eagles a 2021 third-round pick and a 2022 conditional second-rounder in exchange. Wentz, who had a disappointing 2020 NFL season with the Eagles, is locked in as the team’s starting quarterback for this season and beyond.

If Wentz isn’t able to go in Week 1, the Colts will turn to either Jacob Eason or Sam Ehlinger. Eason was the team’s fourth-round pick last year and served as a third-string QB in 2020, while Ehlinger is a sixth-round rookie who played his college football at Texas.

Since being drafted with the sixth overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, Quenton Nelson emerged as one of the best guards in the league. He played all 48 games in his three seasons as a pro, picking up three Pro Bowl and three First-Team All-Pro nods.

The Philadelphia Eagles reportedly agreed to trade their quarterback Carson Wentz to the Indianapolis Colts. The Eagles will receive a third-round pick in 2021 and a conditional second-rounder in 2022 as part of the deal.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the second-round selection can become a first-rounder if Wentz plays 75 percent of the snaps in the 2021 NFL season. It will also happen if he plays 70 percent or more snaps and the Colts make the playoffs.

The trade can’t become official until the start of the new league year on March 17th.

The two teams have been reportedly engaged in the conversations for weeks, trying to work out a deal. The Eagles tried to stir up the market and get a better trade package, but Wentz didn’t attract much interest from other teams so they ended up taking the Colts offer.

The deal represents a fresh start for the Eagles, who move on from the player they traded up to get with the No. 2 pick in 2016. While Carson Wentz initially lived up to the expectations, his injuries and inconsistent play in recent seasons have paved the way for his exit.

Wentz had a disastrous 2020 campaign, completing just 57.4 percent of his passes (34th in the NFL) and throwing league-leading 15 picks. This caused the Eagles to bench the 28-year-old QB and turn to rookie Jalen Hurts towards the end of the regular season.

The Eagles are now expected to install Hurts as their starter in 2021, although reports say that the team will bring in a veteran for the position.

Carson Wentz, on the other hand, will be reunited with Frank Reich in Indianapolis and get a chance to resurrect his career. While Reich was the Eagles’ offensive coordinator in 2017, Wentz had an MVP-worthy outing before an ACL injury cut his season short.  He earned his only All-Pro, and Pro Bowl nods that year.

The Colts have been without a long-term solution at the QB position since Andrew Luck retired. Wentz could be that guy if the new surroundings help him rediscover his form considering his upside. If not, the Colts won’t lose much considering the low price they paid.

Philadelphia Eagles are officially all-in on quarterback Carson Wentz. After letting Nick Foles go, to remove any doubts about the starter for 2019, Eagles now also gave Wentz a big-time extension.

The team announced on Friday that they have agreed to a four-year extension with Wentz, which will keep him with the franchise through 2024. The 26-year-old signal caller has two years left on his rookie deal.

According to ESPN‘s Adam Schefter, Wentz’s deal is worth $128 million with $107.9 million guaranteed. He will receive $66 million as a signing bonus while having an opportunity to earn $16 million more through bonuses.

Eagles confirmed the deal on their official social media.

“I can’t even explain to you how excited I am right now to be a part of this great city for this many more years. It means the world to me.” – said Wentz in a video published on Twitter. “From the moment I got drafted here, I knew this place was special.”

Philadelphia Eagles took Carson Wentz second overall in 2016 NFL Draft and made him the team’s starting QB in his rookie year. After a solid first year in the league, Wentz had a breakthrough season in 2017 in which he was an MVP candidate until he tore his ACL in Week 14 game against Los Angeles Rams.

In 2018, Wentz also struggled with injuries, having to end the season prematurely due to back problems. He played 11 games last season, completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 3,074 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Everything that Nick Foles accomplished as a quarterback for the Philadelphia Eagles still won’t be enough for him to take away the starting QB spot from Carson Wentz. During a press conference on Tuesday, Eagles’ head coach Doug Pederson decided to resolve the QB dilemma once and for all, saying that Wentz will remain the team’s quarterback of the future.

“Yes, Carson Wentz is the quarterback going forward,” – said Pederson. “And in Nick’s case, listen, we’d love to have everybody back throughout the roster, but as I’ve said many, many times, it’s not about one guy, it’s about the team, and we’re going to do what’s best for the team.”

Still, the Eagles wouldn’t have anything against keeping Foles, who is set to become a free agent this offseason, in Philadelphia.

“We would love to keep Nick Foles,” – said team’s executive vice president of football operations Howie Roseman. “You talk about a guy we drafted here and we’ve grown incredibly close with. I don’t know a team that wouldn’t want to have Nick Foles on their roster. Certainly as we go into the substance of those discussions, we haven’t had them yet, but there’s no question we love having Nick Foles as an Eagle in Philadelphia and we’d love to keep him.”

However, it doesn’t seem likely that Nick Foles will remain with the Philadelphia Eagles and be satisfied with the backup spot. Many teams will be looking for a quarterback in 2019, including Jacksonville Jaguars and Miami Dolphins, so Foles will definitely have a market with his resume. Another thing that goes against the Eagles is the fact that the 29-year-old recently said that he wants to lead his own NFL team as a starting QB.

After Carson Wentz went down with a season-ending injury in Week 14 of 2017 season, Nick Foles took over the starting quarterback spot and led the team to an improbable Super Bowl LII win while managing to get the Super Bowl MVP honors in the process. He once again stepped in Week 15 of 2018 season, after Wentz went down again, and managed to defy the odds by getting Eagles to the playoffs when they had around 20 percent of chance to make it. Foles then took the team to a road wild-card win against the Chicago Bears and league’s best defense, while coming close to upset the New Orleans Saints. Still, that wasn’t enough for Philadelphia, and we will watch him in some other team’s uniform when the 2019 season kicks off.

The 2017 Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles are facing another setback in their struggling 2018 season. Besides facing an uphill battle to qualify for playoffs after falling to a 6-7 record, Eagles have now lost their starting quarterback Carson Wentz to a back injury.

Philadelphia’s head coach Doug Pederson told reporters on Friday that Wentz has a “stress fracture in his back,” that might require up to three months to fully heal. According to Pederson, the injury got worse in the recent weeks but won’t require a surgery.

He has a stress injury, evolved over time and it requires no surgery,” – said Pederson. “[I’m not] answering any more questions about it. We’re playing the Rams in two days if you guys haven’t figured this out.

It remains unknown whether the Eagles will opt to sideline Carson Wentz and let him heal. If that turns out to be the case, Super Bowl LII MVP Nick Foles will step in for him.

Wentz tore his ACL towards the end of the last season, and Foles replaced him in the best way possible. He led the Philadelphia through the playoffs and helped the team to win the Super Bowl trophy.

Foles also started the season as Eagles’ starting QB, with Wentz not being fully recovered yet, and played two games in which he completed 65.9 percent of his passes for 451 yards and one touchdown while having one interception.

After Carson Wentz fully recovered, he took the starting job in Week 3. Although he had a statistically good season so far, Wentz struggled with consistency and Philadelphia didn’t win as many games as they would like as a result. He played 11 games, completing 69.6 percent of his passes for 3,074 yards and 21 touchdowns.

The Philadelphia Eagles will field backup Nick Foles when they host Tampa Bay Buccaneers at the end of this week. Super Bowl winner and the Franchise’s face Carson Wentz will remain on the sidelines as he heals from a torn ACL.

Although hard-fought, the Eagles were able to snatch an 18-12 victory over the Falcons last week with Foles as the starting quarterback. However, the backup player made no touchdown and managed a single pass to continue with his poor form this year.

As the Eagles head on for week 2, there are reports that Alshon Jeffery is back on training and could make an appearance on Sunday’s game. With their pass play limited to 18 yards, Philadelphia misses the receiver’s skills.

Without Jeffery, however, the Eagles remain with Zach Ertz, Mike Wallace and Nelson Agholor in the passing departments. Together with robust catchers out and offensive players, manager Doug Peterson is hopeful his team will bounce back to the form they had closing into the Super Bowl in February.

As for Wentz, unless he experiences a quick recovery, the Eagles are in no hurry to field him. The team is prioritizing his health and will look for alternatives until he is fully fit.

The recovery of Philadelphia Eagles’ quarterback Carson Wentz is going according to plan, but the 25-year-old is still unsure whether he will be ready to play in the season opener. Speaking with the media on Tuesday, Wentz said that the decision about him playing against Atlanta Falcons in Week 1 would “come down to what the doctors say.”

I think there’s been really no secret that it’s going to be close,” – Wentz told the reporters after the training camp wrapped up. “Seeing where I’m at in camp and finally, hopefully next week, doing 11-on-11, I think naturally it’s going to be close. Ultimately, it won’t be just my call or the coaches’ call. It will come down to what the doctors say, really.”

Last season, Carson Wentz suffered a torn ACL in his left knee in Week 14 which ruled him out for the season. In the 14 games he played, Wentz had 3,296 passing yards and 33 touchdowns. Still, the Eagles managed to win the Super Bowl without him, with backup Nick Foles leading the team.

Even though Foles excelled as a starter, Wentz is still considered the team’s No. 1 quarterback. The Eagles, however, don’t plan to rush his return and will be re-evaluated after their second preseason game against New England Patriots on Thursday.

We’ll sit down after this game and get together with our medical team… and we’ll discuss the next step in his progression,” – said Eagles coach Doug Pederson said. “I’m excited to see where he’s at health-wise. He’s done a nice job out here already in these last couple of weeks so I’ll be curious to see where it goes from here.

Monday couldn’t be worse for the Philadelphia Eagles fans. Their star quarterback Carson Wentz has torn its ACL and will miss the rest of regular season and the playoffs. This was confirmed by the Eagles’ coach Doug Pederson on Monday.

Wentz was injured in the game against the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday and had to leave early. Before exiting the game against the Rams, Wentz had four touchdown passes and passed Sonny Jurgensen for most touchdown passes in the Eagles’ history. Sources close to the Eagles have reported that the manual test showed that Wentz had a loose ACL in his left knee, but the team hoped that MRI on Monday morning will be more encouraging. Unfortunately, the MRI just confirmed the suspicion.

The injury of their quarterback is just one of many for the Eagles this season. They previously lost special-teams captain Chris Maragos, left tackle Jason Peters, linebacker Jordan Hicks and running back Darren Sproles. Without these players, the Eagles still managed to keep themselves in the conversation for Super Bowl appearance. Now, with Wentz being out, that is hard to believe.

If there’s ever an opportunity for me to rally the troops as the football coach, now might be the time,” – said Pederson. “You can’t lose faith. This has been a resilient football team all season long.

Although 2017 NFL season was just his second in the league, Carson Wentz already established himself as a star. He is currently leading the league in touchdowns with 33, while passing 3,296 yards.

The Eagles’ backup quarterback, Nick Foles will step in as a starting QB, according to Pederson. After stepping in for Wentz in the game against the Rams, Foles completed 60.0 percent of his passes for 42 yards. Third-string QB Nate Sudfeld will act as a backup for Foles, while the team still decides whether they’ll add another quarterback to their roster.
