The Carolina Panthers selected Bryce Young in the first round of this year’s NFL Draft on Thursday night, making Young the number one overall pick on the night.

Panthers owner David Tepper stated that he believes that selecting Young could make all the difference as his franchise chases down the first Super Bowl victory in its history.

“When we went through the process with these quarterbacks, we asked ourselves, ‘Which one of these guys will be a guy that can take us?'” Tepper revealed later at a news conference during which he never sat down. “Not to talk about all the different guys, but we thought this guy had the highest probability of winning Super Bowls.”

During his time at Alabama, Young impressed with his skill as a quarterback despite his lower-than-average height of 6-2 ½ and 204 pounds for the position. The 21-year-old player is the winner of the 2021 Heisman Trophy.

Carolina Panthers’ linebacker Thomas Davis decided to rethink all the retirement talk from the beginning of the year. After announcing his retirement in January, the 35-year-old Pro-Bowler now said that he is “very open” to the idea of playing in 2019. The thing that has potentially changed his mind is the four-game suspension Davis received in April for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs.

It’s tough for me to potentially be in the last season of my NFL career, to be faced with a four-game suspension,” – said Davis after Panthers’ three-day minicamp. “But I’m just going to take it in stride, take advantage of the time I do have here with my teammates — OTAs, minicamp process. We are going to go to training camp. We are going to have a good camp and just looking forward to doing that.

Thomas Davis had another good year in 2017, playing 15 games in the regular season and managing 76 tackles and 2.5 sacks alongside one fumble recovery. He also earned Pro-Bowl selection in the last season.

It’s important for me to come out each and every day and show that I’m still capable of playing,” – he added. “When you look at the body of work over the OTA and minicamp process, I think that I’ve proven without a doubt that I can still play this game. I ’m still out here running around and moving just as fast as any of our young guys. That’s kind of how I judge myself.

Davis signed an extension with the Carolina Panthers in August 2017 which will keep him under the contract through 2018 season.

Carolina Panthers made another addition to their roster on Monday, signing former Denver Broncos running back C.J. Anderson to a one-year deal. Anderson was released by Broncos on April 16, after spending previous five years with the team.

The style that Carolina likes to play definitely fits my style and my game,” – Anderson told ESPN. “As far as ground and pound, the ‘Keep Pounding’ slogan Carolina uses fits well. My game is breaking tackles and finding ways to use that and make long plays.

I just felt this was the best team for me. I get to play the type of style I want to play.” – he explained his decision to sign with the Panthers.

Carolina Panthers have their starting running back in Christian McCaffrey, so C.J. Anderson will look to compete with Cameron Artis-Payne to be the second-string back. He will also help the Panthers to fill the void that was left after the team decided to release Jonathan Stewart.

C.J. Anderson signed with the Denver Broncos in 2013 as an undrafted free agent. He earned his first and only Pro-Bowl appearance in 2014 and was the part of the Broncos team that won the Super Bowl 50.

In 2017, Anderson had his first 1,000 rushing yards season in his career while adding three rushing touchdowns. He also had 224 receiving yards and one receiving touchdown.

He’s coming off a 1,000-plus yard season and gives us another good runner to compete with the other good backs we have,” – said Panthers’ general manager Marty Hurney. “He runs with excellent pad level, has great vision and consistently gets yards after contact.

Despite the strong showing, Broncos decided to release him in order to save more than $9 million in cap salary while giving their young running backs Devontae Booker and De’Angelo Henderson more playing time.

Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen decided he still has a desire to play football professionally. Olsen signed a two-year contract extension with the Panthers on Thursday and will remain with the team through 2020 season. The 33-year-old recently teased retirement and even considered a broadcasting career, interviewing for the Monday Night Football analyst job.

Olsen signed a three-year deal in 2015, which saw him getting $12 million signing bonus and earning $7.5 million on average per season. This two-year extension is worth $8.55 million per season according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

I’ve made it clear over the past year that I want to keep playing and I want to play here,” – said Olsen in a statement Thursday. “Both sides were very fair and worked on it in a timely manner. I feel really good about what we were able to get done both for ourselves and the team.

Originally drafted in NFL by the Chicago Bears, Greg Olsen started playing his best football after being traded to the Panthers in 2011. During his time in Carolina, Olsen has earned three Pro Bowl selections and two Second-team All-Pro honors. He has also become the first tight end in NFL history to have more than 1,000 receiving yards in three consecutive seasons (2014-2016). He didn’t have the opportunity to continue the streak since he suffered a foot injury in Week 2 of 2017 season and was limited to 7 games.

Having Greg Olsen signing the extension means that the Panthers will probably change their approach to the 2018 NFL draft where they were predicted to take a tight end.

After acquiring Michael Bennett from the Seattle Seahawks, Philadelphia Eagles now engaged in trimming their salary, which is projected to be $14 million over the cap. They have traded wide receiver Torrey Smith to Carolina Panthers, with cornerback Daryl Worley heading in opposite direction. Smith is scheduled to earn $5 million this season, while Worley has two years on his rookie deal that earns him $650,000 a year.

Torrey Smith played for Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers before joining the Eagles in 2017. The 29-year-old managed to catch 36 passes for 430 yards, and add two touchdowns in the regular season. In the postseason, he had 13 catches for 157 yards and one touchdown. The Panthers coach Ron Rivera previously said he wanted to get a veteran wide receiver in the offseason, and he got just that in Smith.

Daryl Worley, who entered the league in 2016, had his ups and downs during his short NFL career. Although his performance steadily improved, he still didn’t manage to get the starting cornerback spot from James Bradberry. Worley finished the season with 10 passes defended, two interceptions, and a sack.

Besides Torrey Smith, Philadelphia Eagles will most likely look to trade defensive end Vinny Curry and veteran tight end Brent Celek.

Carolina Panthers’ center Ryan Kalil decided to make his 12th NFL season his last one. The 32-year-old has revealed that he plans on to retire after 2018 season wraps up. 2018 will also be the final year Kalil’s contract which sees him earning $4.5 million in base salary.

This is going to be the last one for me,” – Kalil told the Observer. “I’m not doing the farewell tour, that’s for sure.

The five-time Pro Bowler hopes that his last season as a Panther won’t be spoiled by injuries. Khalil only managed to play six games in 2017 due to a neck injury. He also failed to attend much of a training camp before the season, something he hopes won’t be the case now.

The thing I’m excited about is to actually have an offseason to train because I haven’t had that. I didn’t get that last year and I think that’s part of what contributed to my injury this last season,” – said Kalil. “I didn’t get to start training until right around training camp, like actually football training. I just felt way behind and I didn’t feel as physically ready for the season as I would have liked to have been.

Ryan Kalil spent his college career with the USC Trojans football team, before entering the 2007 NFL Draft. After impressive showings at the NFL Combine, he was taken by the Carolina Panthers with the 59th overall pick. Kalil established himself as the team’s starting center in his second season and never looked back. Besides five Pro Bowl selections, Kalil was also two times First-team All-Pro and one-time Second-team All-Pro.

Carolina Panthers linebacker Thomas Davis won’t play professional football after the 2018 NFL season. The 34-year-old has announced his decision to retire after 2018 during his interview with NFL.com.

For me, I really can’t see me playing past the 2018 season. This will definitely be my last year coming up.” – said Davis. “One of the reasons is I want to continue my contractual obligations. I signed on for a one-year extension, and I want to complete that. I’ve never been a guy to quit anything and I’m not going to start doing that now.

In the 2017 season, Davis played in 15 regular season games and had 72 combined tackles with 2.5 sacks. He was also featured in the Panthers’ loss to the New Orleans Saints, managing 4 tackles. After the game, Davis said he will likely return next year but in a reduced role.

Being in my 13th year, I’m pretty sure coming back next year that it will be in a reduced role,” – he said. “Shaq [Thompson] has definitely earned the right, and when you look at [David] Mayo, he’s coming along. Obviously, we still have Luke [Kuechly] here who is playing at an extremely high level.”

Thomas Davis spent his entire career with the Carolina Panthers, who took him in the first round of 2005 NFL draft with the 14th pick. Since then he earned First-team All-Pro honors in 2015 and was selected two times for the Pro-Bowl (2015 and 2016). He is also Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award recipient while becoming the only NFL player who returned to the field after three ACL tears.

During his NFL career, Davis has managed 1,015 total tackles, 28.0 sacks, 13 interceptions and 18 forced fumbles.
