Carmelo Anthony, one of the best scorers in basketball history, has officially retired. Anthony, who played 19 seasons in NBA, announced his decision via a video posted on social media.

“Now the time has come for me to say goodbye … to the game that gave me purpose and pride,” said Melo in the clip.

Anthony retires after he spent the entire 2022-23 season out of the league. He last played with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2021–22, when he averaged 13.3 points in 69 games.

Anthony became a basketball star even before coming to the NBA, leading Syracuse to a national title and being named the 2003 NCAA tournament’s Most Outstanding Player. He ended up being selected third overall in the 2003 NBA Draft by the Denver Nuggets.

Since then, Melo put together a Hall of Fame career that saw him receive 10 All-Star selections, be NBA scoring champion in 2013, and get selected in NBA 75th Anniversary Team. He also averaged 22.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 2.7 assists in 1,260 career games with six different franchises.

The only thing missing from Anthony’s resume, besides the MVP award, is an NBA title. He was never in the NBA Finals and managed to reach the conference finals just once.

However, Melo got plenty of silverware with Team USA. He played for the national team at four Olympic Games and won three gold medals.

Carmelo Anthony won’t lack offers this summer if the Los Angeles Lakers decide not to bring him back for the 2022-23 season. According to Marc Berman of the New York Post, the first in line to sign the veteran might be the New York Knicks.

Berman reports that the Knicks brass is having a discussion about Anthony and that the team is thinking about making him an offer in free agency. The Brooklyn native is a fan favorite in Madison Square Garden but has also been effective in recent years as a bench player and could lift the Knicks’ second unit with his scoring ability.

Anthony is coming off a solid season despite the Lakers’ disastrous campaign in 2021-22. The 38-year-old played 69 games and averaged 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 1.0 assists per contest.

Carmelo Anthony previously spent seven seasons with the Knicks before being traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder ahead of the 2017-18 season. He made the NBA All-Star team in every year he spent in New York while also receiving All-NBA Second Team honors and taking the NBA scoring title in 2012–13. Anthony led the Knicks to Eastern Conference Semifinals in the same year, which remains the franchise’s biggest success since Conference Finals in 1999-00.

Carmelo Anthony continued his climb on the NBA’s all-time scoring list on Sunday night. Melo scored 28 points for the Los Angeles Lakers in a 121-118 win over the Memphis Grizzlies, enabling him to jump over Hall of Famer Moses Malone and get to the number nine spot.

Anthony entered the game needing 15 points to beat Malone’s 27,409 points. The 37-year-old star scored 10 points in the first half before hitting two shots behind the arc in the third to get past the mark.

Melo didn’t stop there, however. He continued to carry the Lakers’ offense, scoring 12 more points, including some clutch shots that gave the team their first win in the 2021-22 NBA season.

“He didn’t crawl up to that milestone,” Lakers coach Frank Vogel said via ESPN. “He blew the doors off of it.”

It’s impressive that Carmelo Anthony even got here, considering that most people believed he’d never return to the league after a debacle with the Houston Rockets during the 2018-19 season. Melo just played 10 games for the Rockets before being removed from the rotation. Houston later traded him to the Chicago Bulls, who waived him shortly after.

Anthony spent almost a year away from basketball before signing with the Portland Trail Blazers and reinventing himself as a spot-up shooter and reliable contributor from the bench. He left Portland this offseason to join his friend LeBron James in Los Angeles and try to get his first NBA championship.

“I’m still here doing it,” Anthony, who is averaging 17.7 points and 4.0 rebounds in Lakers’ jersey, said after the game. “I think that’s what I’m honestly excited about. I’m here in Year 19, still doing what I’m able to do. Still passionate about the game.”

Carmelo Anthony has been through a lot in his roller coaster of an NBA career. Now at age 37, the Los Angeles Lakers forward has only one goal on his mind: winning an NBA championship.

After a successful college stint at Syracuse, he was drafted third in the 2003 NBA draft by the newly revamped Denver Nuggets. If not for sharing his rookie class with the likes of LeBron James and Dwyane Wade, he probably would’ve won Rookie of the Year.

He was a young star on the Nuggets but failed to get out of the first round of the Playoffs. Years later, he became a New York Knick—but although he got closer to the Finals, he still came up short. More years passed by, and after two failed stints with the Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets, Anthony began struggling to find a role in the NBA at all.

However, last season, he was able to find his rhythm again after signing with the Portland Trail Blazers. His high shooting percentage made a strong impression on the Lakers front office, who subsequently signed the veteran forward for this upcoming season.

Anthony now joins the likes of LeBron James, Anthony Davis, Russell Westbrook, and Dwight Howard in an attempt to finally win an NBA ring.

“We’re knowing that we’re fighting for something bigger, which is an actual championship,” said Anthony. He’s accomplished quite a lot during his time in the NBA, but clearly, a title is his highest priority now.

Carmelo Anthony spent the first eight years of his NBA career with the Denver Nuggets before requesting and being granted a trade to the New York Knicks in 2011. But it turns out there was more to this blockbuster deal besides Melo wanting to play for his hometown club.

While appearing on podcast All That Smoke, hosted by former NBA players Matt Barnes and Stephen Jackson, Anthony shared some previously unknown details about his move to the Knicks.

According to the 10-time All-Star, he never wanted to leave the Denver Nuggets, which drafted him third overall in the 2003 NBA Draft.

“Contrary to what anybody and every believes, I never wanted to leave Denver,” said Anthony.” I never told people that. But I never wanted to leave Denver. But it’s like they put my back against the wall.”

Anthony told Barnes and Jackson that he felt like Denver Nuggets were not committed to building on the success that came when the team reached the 2009 Western Conference Finals. He became especially disillusioned with the franchise when the front office decided to move on from Dahntay Jones, Chauncey Billups, and JR Smith, whom he all considered important pieces on the team. That ended up prompting him to ask for a trade.

“We’re supposed to be building, not rebuilding,” he added. “And I went to them. I’m like, ‘I don’t want to go, but if y’all going to rebuild, it’s time for me to go somewhere else.'”

After Anthony left the franchise, the Nuggets had to wait 10 years before returning to the West Finals. Melo, on the other hand, only managed to get to Conference Semifinals during his time with the Knicks.

No team would be complete without an exuberant sixth man off the bench to provide energy when they need it most. The Sixth Man of the Year Award is given every season, and this year we have a handful of interesting candidates. Here are our rankings of who’s leading the pack so far.

5. Carmelo Anthony

He was once one of the best players in the league, and now he’s learned how to evolve into a role player. Carmelo Anthony is finding all kinds of ways to contribute off the bench, and the Portland Trailblazers thriving as a result.

4. Tyler Herro

When the season started, our last memory of Tyler Herro was his incredible performance for the Miami Heat in the 2020 playoffs. He hasn’t slowed down in the slightest, making him a huge threat to win this award.

3. Tim Hardaway Jr.

The Dallas Mavericks have immensely benefited from having Tim Hardaway Jr. on their squad. When he started coming off the bench, they started winning games rapidly. It’s almost like he was built to attack other teams’ reserve squads.

2. Montrezl Harrell

Montrezl Harrell has already won this award, but he just might do it again. He’s serving as a major piece in the Los Angeles Lakers reserve squad, and he’s putting up double-doubles like they’re nothing.

1. Jordan Clarkson

One of the main reasons for the Utah Jazz’s success has been Jordan Clarkson. He’s been averaging a career-high 18.2 points a game and is right now a lock to win this award. As long as he keeps it up, it’ll be hard for someone else to catch him.

It appears that Carmelo Anthony finally found his home in the NBA.

The Portland Trail Blazers announced on social media on Sunday that Anthony agreed to a deal that will see him stay with the franchise for one more season. Reportedly, Melo inked a veteran’s minimum contract.

After his struggling stints with Oklahoma City Thunder and Houston Rockets, Anthony spent almost a year out of the league before signing with the Trail Blazers last November. Portland initially saw him as a rotational piece but was forced to push Melo into the team’s starting line-up following a series of injuries on the forward position.

Anthony used the opportunity and gave the Blazers solid production during the regular season. The 36-year-old forward finished the campaign with 15.4 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.5 assists on average while also being surprisingly efficient from the three-point line.

Carmelo Anthony, who has 10 All-Star nods to his name, will now have an opportunity to be a contributor for the Blazers once again while also aiming to reach some big career milestones. This includes climbing on NBA’s all-time scoring list.

Melo is currently at No.15 with 26,446 career points but only needs 51 more to pass San Antonio Spurs’ legend Tim Duncan on the 14th spot. He can also get into the Top 10 in 2020/21, needing 868 points to achieve this feat.

When asked about what his plans are for next season, legendary NBA scorer Carmelo Anthony said that he would love to stay in Portland and play another season for the Trail Blazers.

Portland was eliminated from the playoffs by the Los Angeles Lakers, who won the best-of-seven series 4-1.

“I think I found a home in Portland,” Anthony said after the final 131-122 loss.

He previously spent one year out of the NBA, after playing only 10 games with the Houston Rockets in 2018-2019.

Anthony, who recently took 15th place on the NBA’s all-time scoring list, was picked up by Portland in November 2019 when the Trail Blazers were injury-ridden and desperately needed a veteran presence to help out.

Melo would do just that, providing not just veteran guidance, but also occasional moments of electric scoring that he has been known for his entire career. Anthony showed that even at the age of 36, he could hit big-time shots and provide offensive fire-power when called upon to do so.

If Anthony wants to stay in Portland, however, he might have to play on another veteran minimum contract, since the Trail Blazers will have very little money to spend this offseason.

But considering that Melo has made close to $250 million during the course of his career, the financials shouldn’t play much of a role in his decision, as long as Portland decides that they want him back as well.

Carmelo Anthony has officially passed Boston Celtics legend Paul Pierce on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. Carmelo is now 15th all-time, right behind Spurs star Tim Duncan.

Anthony has now scored 26,411 points since joining the league as the third overall pick in the 2003 NBA draft, a legendary draft in which Anthony, Lebron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh were all taken in the top five.

Anthony is currently playing for the Portland Trail Blazers, who are making a push to qualify for the 2020 playoffs. The 36-year-old player was originally drafted by the Denver Nuggets and has played for the New York Knicks, Oklahoma City Thunder, and Houston Rockets.

He led the NBA in scoring in 2012-2013 with the Knicks and has averaged 23.6 points per game during his career. Anthony is also a six-time All-NBA selection and 10-time All-Star. And even though he hasn’t won a championship, his scoring prowess should be enough to cement his status as a future Hall-of-Famer.

Anthony has proven to be an excellent addition to Portland’s roster this season, where he has become a strong veteran leader and an excellent and reliable third scoring option next to Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.

After not playing in the NBA for more than a year, Carmelo Anthony made a comeback in November, inking a deal with Portland Trail Blazers. As it turns out, Blazers didn’t come calling, Melo would now be retired.

Anthony recently made an appearance on CJ McCollum’s Pull Up Podcast and spoke about his time away from the league. According to the 35-year-old, he was ready to call it quits if NBA teams continued avoiding him.

“I told my agent ‘Nobody’s calling? You know what? If nothing happens by this date, I’m announcing my retirement. I’m at peace with letting the game go,'” explained Anthony.

Since his disappointing 10-games stint with Houston Rockets at the beginning of 2018/19 season, it seemed that NBA teams didn’t want to get near Anthony despite his glowing resume. It almost looked like the league moved on from him, and that his iso-skills are not desirable in this modern NBA. The fact that he is a defensive liability also didn’t help.

But after the injuries and bad form pressed Portland to get creative, Melo finally was able to step on the NBA court once again.

“I really needed Portland.” he added. “As much as they needed me from a basketball standpoint, I needed Portland for other reasons. I always say god don’t make no mistakes. This came at a pivotal time for me, and I’m taking advantage of it and it shows.”

While Anthony isn’t posting any head-turning numbers, he is proving to be more than a solid starter for the Trail Blazers. He played a total of 50 games in 2019/20 and averages 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 1.6 assists per game.
