]]>Cleveland Indians announced on Thursday that pitcher Carlos Carrasco, who is currently the player with the longest tenure on the team, will remain with the organization through 2022. The Indians activated a team option on Carrasco’s contract for 2020 and then agreed to a two-year extension with the 31-year-old.
The extension comes after Carlos Carrasco had another great season in 2018, finishing the year with a 17-10 record, a 3.38 ERA and 231 strikeouts.
Carrasco, who was the American League wins leader in 2017, will get paid $9.75 million for 2019 and $10.25 million for 2020 according to his old contract. The extension will see him getting $12 million in both 2021 and 2022, while the team option for 2023 is worth $14 million.

Although Carlos Carrasco started his professional baseball career with the Philadelphia Phillies, it was the Cleveland Indians who gave him his first chance in MLB in 2009. Since then, Carrasco established himself as one of the team’s best and most valuable players. During his time in Cleveland, Carrasco posted 79-62 record with 3.71 ERA and 1,127. He was particularly impressive in 2016 when he helped Indians to reach the World Series and 2017, when he led the AL in wins and had an immaculate inning against the Detroit Tigers on July 7.
