Carolina Panthers’ quarterback Cam Newton delivered some encouraging news about his recovery from shoulder surgery he underwent last week. Newton, who now had two offseason surgeries in the last three years, told reporters on Wednesday that his right shoulder is “good” after the procedure and even “better” than he thought it would be.

“It’s good. It’s good,” – said Newton of his shoulder during his appearance on radio 680 The Fan. “It’s better than I thought it would be. With so much going on throughout this season, I was in fear to see what actually was wrong.”

Cam Newton first experienced issues with soreness in his right shoulder in Week 7, with the injury becoming far more worse as the season progressed. The 29-year-old struggled with his performance, with Panthers embarking on a seven-game losing streak, and ended up missing the final two games of the 2018 season.

“That’s what was so frustrating,” Newton explained. “It didn’t matter how much I would grunt, how much I would muscle up and throw it, it wasn’t going far. You’re looking at your arm like, ‘Geez, Louise! What’s really the issue?’

Despite remaining optimistic about his recovery, Newton declined to give more details about his comeback. Carolina also didn’t want to comment on the topic publicly and refused to give a possible timetable for his return.

In 2018 season, Cam Newton managed to complete career-high 67.9 percent of his passes, while throwing for 3,395 yards and 24 touchdowns. He also rushed for 488 yards and four touchdowns.

It looks like Carolina Panthers’ star quarterback Cam Newton won’t play out the 2018 season. Panthers general manager Marty Hurney told the media on Wednesday that Newton, who struggled with a shoulder injury in the past couple of weeks, will be inactive for the Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Hawks. The 29-year-old is also expected to sit out the final two games of the season.

Four-year veteran Taylor Heinicke will step in for Newton, while rookie Kyle Allen will serve as his backup.

Still, this doesn’t mean that Cam Newton won’t step onto the field again this season. According to Carolina’s head coach Ron Rivera, Newton might play in the season finale against the New Orleans Saints if the team remains in the run for the playoffs.

He’ll be on the 53-man all the way through,” – said Rivera. “Crazy enough things can happen, and we’ll see from there.

We had the opportunity to visit with the doctors, the trainers and Cam himself.” – he added. “In talking with Marty and the owner [David Tepper], obviously we felt our best opportunity to win a football game was to have a healthy Taylor to start this week.

Panthers’ decision to rest Cam Newton comes after the team suffered a 9-12 defeat against the Saints, which got their playoff chances down to one percent. Newton struggled the entire game, completing 16 out of 29 pass attempts for 131 yards. He had one interception while failing to throw a touchdown pass.

Newton completed a career-high 67.9 percent of his passes in 14 games he played this season, throwing for 3,395 yards and 24 touchdowns. Additionally, he rushed for 488 yards and four touchdowns.

Most NFL analysts will tell you that Carolina Panthers’ Pro Bowl quarterback Cam Newton was at his peak in 2015 when he won the MVP award and led his team to the Super Bowl. But, if you ask Newton, he is playing the best football of his career right now.

Honestly, I feel like I’m playing the best football of my career,” – Newton Charlotte Observer on Wednesday. “Straight-up. I just feel in control. There’s no question marks. My assuredness of every single play, I know exactly what I’m supposed to do. It’s just, I don’t want to sound ‘like that’, but I know my worth. I know who I am. … That’s all personal. And that comes with preparation.

I feel like, when somebody is at their best and facing me, and I’m at my best, we win. You know what I’m saying?” – he added.

Now, if you analyze Cam Newton’s performances in 2018, there is some truth to his words, at least in the passing game. He has been completing a career-high 69.6 percent of his throws while having 22 to 7 touchdown-to-interception ratio, also career best. Newton threw for a total of 2,699 yards this season as well while rushing for 417 more yards.

Unfortunately for Panthers’ fans, Cam Newton’s good performances didn’t bring them as many wins as they would like. Carolina currently has a 6-5 record and is second in NFC South behind New Orleans Saints. Also, all of the team’s five losses came down to a single possession. This doesn’t sit well with Newton.

[In the past when I was playing my best], I was rewarded with victories,” – Newton explained. “Now, it’s tougher that we’re not winning… The selfish me would have been like, ‘Oh, I’m good. We ain’t losing because of me. But that’s not where I am right now in my career.

Panthers’ next game comes on Sunday when they will travel to Tampa Bay to face the Buccaneers.
