When the New York Jets signed inside linebacker C.J. Mosley to a five-year, $85 million deal in 2019 they believed their struggles on the defensive end of the ball were finally coming to an end. But two years later, all that they got from Mosley was two games that he didn’t even complete.

Mosley certainly knows that he didn’t fulfill his end of the deal, struggling with a groin injury in 2019 and opting out in 2020. But he is determined to make amends in 2021 and is entering the season with “a little added chip” on his shoulder.

“When I get back on the field, I definitely want to make sure they respect the name again,” Mosley told reporters earlier this week.

Mosley came to the Jets with a glowing resume that included four Pro Bowl nods and four Second-Team All-Pro selections. But his time in New York immediately got off to a bad start, as he injured his groin in the first game of the 2019 season. He returned several weeks later, only to get injured again, and ended up having surgery. Concerns about COVID-19 then prompted him to skip the entire 2020 season.

But despite the lengthy break, which Mosley refers to as “a two-year hiatus”, he believes he can still be an impactful player when he steps on the field.

“Yeah, I don’t have any doubts in myself. I’m here, so we’ll let the play do the talking,” Mosley explained while adding that the injury is now behind him and that he’s feeling “great”.

Before arriving in New York, C.J. Mosley spent five years with the Baltimore Ravens. While in Baltimore, he developed into an all-around contributor and was considered being one of the best ILBs in the league.

Mosley has 588 career tackles to go with 8.5 sacks, 32 QB hits, 10 interceptions, 37 pass deflections, six forced fumbles, and two defensive touchdowns.

New York Jets’ big offseason acquisition C.J. Mosley didn’t have a chance to prove his worth this season, as he missed all but two games in 2019 due to groin injury. Still, Mosley hopes that he will have a chance to change this before the end of the year.

Mosley recently discussed his rehab process with ESPN, saying that he recently underwent a procedure of injecting platelet-rich plasma in order to heal faster and get back on the field this season. According to the 27-year-old linebacker, if this treatment doesn’t work, he will have to get a season-ending surgery.

“I’m trying to do everything I can to avoid surgery and play,” – said Mosley. “Worst-case scenario: I’ll have to get surgery if next week doesn’t go well.”

“If I can do anything to avoid ending my season, I’m going to try it,” – he added. “That’s really the main reason why I got the shot. I have a 50-50 chance. I’d rather do that than cut my body open. That was the thinking on that.”

C.J. Mosley started his stint with Jets by recorded six tackles, one interception and one touchdown in less than three-quarters of Week 1 game against Buffalo Bills. Unfortunately, he also picked up an injury in the same game, having to sit out for five weeks.

Mosley returned in Week 7 against New England Patriots, recording three tackles before aggravating the injury and leaving the field. Initially, the Jets projected he could be out for six weeks, but that doesn’t seem like a realistic timeline at the moment. Given the team is out of playoff picture, they may end up deciding to keep him sidelined for the rest of the year.

After five years with the Baltimore Ravens, linebacker C.J. Mosley decided to take his talents to New York in March and ink a five-year, $85 million deal with the Jets. Mosley got a big pay rise with the move, but in doing so, has significantly lower his chances of making the postseason in 2019. Or at least that is what everyone else thinks.

Following the wrap up of offseason activities, Mosley became increasingly optimistic about Jets chances next season and now claims that the “whole NFL is sleeping on the Jets.”

“Now that we’ve got a new little mix-up, got some new people around and some new faces, we’re all eager and we’re all ready,”- the 27-year-old Pro Bowler told the team’s official website. “We know the whole NFL is sleeping on the Jets, so we’re ready to prove them wrong.”

Mosley added that his decision to sign with the Jets was in part because he wanted to be among those who will lead the organization’s turnaround.

“They always have been (doubters),” – he said. “Even I was when I wasn’t here. You’ve got to be honest. That’s another reason I came here, I’m always about great tradition and what better city and what better state to come in and turn a great organization around and be champions.”

C.J. Mosley entered the league as the 17th overall pick in 2014 and kicked off his NFL career with a bang as he earned the Pro Bowl selection and Second-team All-Pro honors in his rookie season. Mosley went on to earn three more Pro Bowl appearances in the next four years with the Ravens while being an integral part of one of NFL’s most feared defense.

Mosley’s career stats include 579 tackles, 8.5 sacks, 35 pass deflections, nine interceptions, and one defensive touchdown.
