Buffalo Bills gave up a third-round and seventh-round draft picks back in 2017 in order to acquire wide receiver Kelvin Benjamin from the Carolina Panthers. Now, they have decided to cut him outright.

Bills confirmed the decision to release Benjamin on Tuesday while also announcing that they are parting ways with WR Andre Holmes. Cornerback Denzel Rice and defensive end Mike Love, on the other side, have been assigned to the practice squad.

It is believed that the reason behind this decision is the Bills’ wish to give their younger players more playing time.

Kelvin Benjamin was in the final year of his rookie contract before getting released by the Bills, so if any team decides to claim him off waivers, they will owe him a remaining portion of his $8.5 million salary for 2018. If he remains a free agent, Buffalo will owe him the rest of the salary.

Although Benjamin supposed to be a long-term solution for the Buffalo Bills on the wide receiver position, the former first-round pick from 2014 never managed to get comfortable. During his time with the team, he played a total of 18 regular-season games and managed to catch only 39 passes for 571 yards and two touchdowns.

Andre Holmes also had a bad run with the Bills since joining in 2017 from Oakland Raiders. Holmes didn’t get much chance to play and ended his time in Buffalo with 25 catches for 277 yards and three touchdowns.

While most NFL teams shake up their roster after loses, Buffalo Bills decided to do it after a 41-10 win over New York Jets. Bills released quarterback Nathan Peterman on Monday, and then followed that up by releasing veteran wide receiver Terrelle Pryor on Tuesday.

Bill’s decision to release Nathan Peterman, who was a starter at the beginning of the season, isn’t a surprise considering the 24-year-old’s struggles with interceptions. In 2017, he played four games in which he had five interceptions in 49 pass attempts.

Peterman continued in the same manner in 2018 as well by throwing seven interceptions in 81 pass attempts and having the worst QBR in the league. It also didn’t help that his replacement, the third-string QB Matt Barkley, had a monster performance against the Jets on Sunday.

The decision to cut Terrelle Pryor was also expected, considering the fact that his role was diminished in the last couple of games. Bills decided to give the opportunity to their younger player, which meant fewer snaps for Pryor. The 29-year-old played a total of eight games this season and has caught 16 passes for 252 yards and two touchdowns.

Buffalo Bills currently have a 3-7 record and will have a bye this week.

Buffalo Bills’ defensive end Shaq Lawson isn’t exactly having a great time in the NFL. Former first-round pick in the 2016 NFL draft didn’t produce well in his first two seasons in the league, and there are rumors circling around that Bills’ are ready to give up on him.

Lawson himself also heard that his team might be looking to trade him and has decided not to let that happen. Talking with The Athletic’s Matthew Fairburn on Thursday, the 24-year-old said that the trade rumors were a “wake-up call” for him.

Shoot, I’ve been on the trading block I feel like,” –said Lawson. “I’ve just been seeing it. Yeah, it’s been a wake-up call. I’ve been hearing trade rumors and then I kind of realized, ‘I’m a first-round pick, third year now. It’s time to wake up.’ I know I’m a good player. I just have to put it all together and be not just a talented player but a talented player who works hard and works on his craft and skill altogether.

Buffalo Bills selected Shaq Lawson with the 19th overall pick in 2016, and no one would blame them if they were to regret that decision now. Lawson played in 21 games for Bills in two years and managed only six sacks and 24 tackles. These slim numbers are not exactly making the team’s front office happy, and they are beginning to show their dissatisfaction.
Bill’s general manager Brandon Beane recently openly said that Lawson didn’t live up to the expectations.

Shaq is a guy that this franchise put a lot of stock in with a first-round pick [in 2016],” – said Beane. “It’s no secret he hasn’t lived up to that. Sean [McDermott] and I are very frank. We try not to be rude, but we don’t beat around the bush. We laid out the expectations for Shaq.”

Beane also already started thinking about life post-Shaq Lawson, signing Trent Murphy as his replacement in the offseason.

It looks like Buffalo Bills left guard Richie Incognito is done with professional football. The 34-year-old announced on Tuesday that he will retire after spending 12 years in the NFL due to medical issues.

I’m done. That’s it. It’s been a long career,” – said Incognito to the Buffalo News on Tuesday. “Went to the doctor. My liver and kidneys are shutting down. The stress is killing me. It’s just about doing what’s right. I just want to be in the Hall of Fame.

Incognito also went on Twitter and confirmed his decision.

Previously, Sports Illustrated reported that Incognito is “strongly considering retiring,” but might decide to return for a final season if the Bills offer him enough money. The MMQB’s Peter King reported that the player is still in talks with the organization about the new contract and has time until Sunday to change his mind.

If Richie Incognito indeed retires, that would mean that the Buffalo Bills have to undertake a serious reconstruction of their offensive line. The team previously traded left tackle Cordy Glenn to the Cincinnati Bengals, while center Eric Wood retired earlier in the year due to a neck injury.

Richie Incognito entered the league in 2005 when he was taken in the third round of that year’s draft by the St. Louis Rams. After four years with the Rams, he had a short stint with the Buffalo Bills in 2009, before signing with the Miami Dolphins. In 2015 he rejoined the Bills and further raised the level of his play, earning himself three consecutive Pro Bowl appearances.

After trading quarterback Tyrod Taylor to the Cleveland Browns, Buffalo Bills have filled the position by signing free agent AJ McCarron to a two-year, $10 million deal with $6.5 million available in incentives.

McCarron, who previously served as a backup with the Cincinnati Bengals, managed to become a free agent after winning a grievance filed against the Bengals. The 27-year-old claimed that he was healthy during his rookie season, but the team still put him the non-football injury list.

AJ McCarron was one of the few QBs who had a starting experience left on the market. He started three games in the 2015 season for the Bengals and played five in total, completing 66.4 of his passes for 854 yards and six touchdowns. After serving three years as a backup for Andy Dalton, McCarron expressed a desire to go to a team that will give him the opportunity to start. He was close to achieving that when the Cleveland Browns agreed to send a second- and third-round pick to the Bengals in exchange for McCarron. The teams, however, didn’t manage to provide the necessary documents before the trade deadline, and the trade fell through.

Although McCarron will probably be a starter in the upcoming NFL season, Buffalo Bills are still expected to draft one of the talented QBs in the upcoming draft. The Bills now have a 12th and 21st first round picks in the upcoming draft, as well as two more in each of the two following rounds. They are expected to trade up in the draft using those picks and get a potential franchise quarterback.

Buffalo Bills center Eric Wood has announced his retirement from NFL on Friday. The 31-year old revealed that his season-ending physical revealed a neck injury and that he is not cleared to play football anymore even if he undergoes surgery or seeks another treatment.

“I was diagnosed with a neck injury as part of my season-ending physical with the Bills.” – said Wood in a statement. “After consultation with Dr. Cappuccino and other physicians, I was informed that I was no longer cleared to play football, even with surgery or further treatment. I appreciate and thank everyone for their thoughts, concerns, and prayers, and I will shed more light on the situation at a press conference on Monday at the team facility.

Eric Wood was drafted by the Bills in the 2009 NFL Draft with the 28th overall pick. He went on to play nine seasons for the team, receiving a Pro Bowl selection in 2015. Wood signed a two-year, $16 million contract extension with the Bills in August 2017. He was team’s only offensive player to be on the field for every snap of 2017 season and served as Bills’ captain.

After finding about Wood’s retirement, Buffalo Bills guard Richie Incognito went on to say it will be a big loss for the team and said that Wood played a great part in his career.

He’s had a lot to do with my career, especially lately in Buffalo,” – said Incognito. “When I found out I was going to go for the interview with the [team-owning] Pegulas, E-Wood was one of the first [people] I told. But, yeah, he’s been instrumental in me coming back in the league and re-establishing myself. E-Wood provided that friendly face in the locker room and that kind of cover for me to be myself. He’s really instrumental in all my success I’ve had the last couple years.
