The Cleveland Browns star Amari Cooper is set to return from injury against the Houston Texans in his team’s wild-card round clash on Saturday. The wide receiver sat out the last two games as he recovered from a heel injury.

“It’s getting better every day,” Cooper confirmed on Wednesday. “I’m running around now. Just a typical injury that you have to work through.” He added that he could have played in Sunday’s 31-14 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, however, the Browns opted to rest most of their starters since they had already clinched the No. 5 seed in the AFC playoffs.

Named to his fifth Pro Bowl of his career as well as his first since being traded to the Browns in 2022, Cooper has enjoyed a strong season, making 72 receptions and a career-high 1,250 receiving yards. On December 24, he set a Browns’ record of 265 receiving yards as his team beat the Houston Texans 36-22. He also scored two touchdowns.

The Cleveland Browns have Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson as their quarterback of the future, but that future most likely won’t start in Week 1 of the 2022 season. With Watson expected to receive a lengthy suspension due to off-the-field issues, the Browns are looking into ways to expand their QB room.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Browns brought in quarterbacks Josh Rosen and AJ McCarron for a workout on Thursday. While there is a possibility of both staying around for the training camp, Rosen seems to have already impressed Cleveland’s coaching staff and will ink a one-year deal.

Rosen entered the league in the 2018 NFL Draft as a 10th overall pick but had a rough time so far in the league. He spent time with five organizations in the past four years and failed to last anywhere longer than a season. He was a backup for the Atlanta Falcons in 2021, seeing the field in four games as a relief and completing two passes out of 11 attempted.

On the other hand, McCarron is a career backup who played for the Cincinnati Bengals and the Houston Texans in the past. The 31-year-old player was also with the Falcons last year but spent the entire campaign on the sidelines after tearing his ACL during the preseason.

If Watson ends up being suspended, the Cleveland Browns will most likely have Jacoby Brissett as their Week 1 starter. Brissett signed on to be Watson’s backup in the offseason after playing for the Miami Dolphins last year.

It took 12 years for it to happen, but Cleveland Browns finally won’t have a losing NFL season on their hands.

In a tightly contested match against the struggling Jacksonville Jaguars, the Browns managed to get a 27-24 win and improve to an 8-3 record. In the worst-case scenario, Cleveland will finish the season at least at 8-8, which would still be better than anything they’ve done since 2007.

The Browns finished the 2007 campaign with a 10-6 record but failed to make the playoff thanks to being on the losing end of a tie-breaker with the Pittsburgh Steelers that year. Since then, the Browns never won more than seven games in a single season.

After snapping the second-largest losing seasons streak in NFL history, the Browns now also want to end the longest active playoff drought in the league. Cleveland last made the postseason in 2002.

“We still haven’t played our best ball yet, and I truly believe that,” said quarterback Baker Mayfield, who finished the game against Jaguars by completing 65.5 percent of his passes while throwing for 258 yards and two touchdowns.

Browns have a good chance of making the playoffs this season, considering the extended postseason format in 2020. They are set for several challenging games, notably against Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers, but also get two breaks by playing winless NY Jets and not-so-good New York Giants by the end of the season.

NFL preseason games are a good way for teams to see new players in action and try out different game plans in a friendly atmosphere. That was the case with a recent preseason game between Cleveland Browns and Washington Redskins, which featured even a courtesy heads up from the Browns’ side.

According to Cleveland’s quarterbacks’ coach Ryan Lindley, they informed the Redskins that they will use no-huddle offense for the opening drive of the game.

“We let them know pregame,” – said Lindley via Cleveland.com. “That was the deal. In the preseason, we didn’t necessarily want to go blitzkrieg on and catch them off guard. I don’t know how it went down. I just know we talked about like, ‘Hey, you know, the referees knew; the other team knew, and everybody was on board.'”

Despite knowing their opponent’s plans, Washington couldn’t stop the Browns and their young quarterback star Baker Mayfield. The 24-year-old led his team down the field in an impressive way, needing only seven plays to cover 86 yards. The drive culminated with Mayfield throwing a 24-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Rashard Higgins.

Cleveland’s performance becomes even more impressive when you know that the team didn’t have their two-star receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry on the field.

After the first successful drive, Browns took control of the game and cruised to a 30-10 win.

You can watch the highlights of the game, including the no-huddle drive, in the video below.

There are less and less NFL teams with coaching vacancies each day. After the Green Bay Packers zeroed in on Matt LaFleur, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Arizona Cardinals, Cleveland Browns, and Denver Broncos all followed and found their new head coaches in the last 48 hours. New York Jets, Cincinnati Bengals, and Miami Dolphins now remain the only teams in the league without an HC.

Buccaneers were the first one to find a new HC, agreeing to a four-year deal with Arians on Tuesday. Arians, who decided to retire as Cardinals’ coach after the 2017 season, spent the last year as an NFL analyst for CBS.  He will succeed Dirk Koetter, who was fired after three seasons in which he compiled 19-29 record.

“Bruce Arians is one of the NFL’s most well-respected coaches over the past two decades, and we are excited to have him leading our team,” – said Buccaneers owner Bryan Glazer in a statement. “Throughout this process, we focused on finding the right coach with a proven ability to elevate our players and lead our team forward. Bruce has played a large role in the development and career success of some of our league’s best players, and we look forward to seeing him continue that work here with our franchise.”

Cardinals, on the other hand, decided to turn to college football for their new head coach hiring Kliff Kingsbury to replace Steve Wilks. Kingsbury was fired as Texas Tech coach in November after he had three straight losing seasons.

Browns decided to stay in the house after interviewing several candidates and choose their interim offensive coordinator Freddie Kitchens as the man who will lead the franchise in the future. Kitchens doesn’t have previous head coaching experience and was relatively unknown before taking over OC job in Week 9 of 2018 NFL season. The 44-year-old, who joined the franchise just a year ago as a running backs coach, is credited with getting most out of Browns’ offense in the eight games he called plays which was a big reason why the front office decided to give him this promotion.

Finally, Chicago Bears’ defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is getting the HC job with Broncos. Fangio doesn’t have the experience of being at the helm of an NFL team but has spent the last 33 years serving at various assistant positions. He is credited for turning the Bears’ defense, which was 30th in the NFL before he joined in 2014, into NFL’s No.1 defense in scoring and takeaways.
