The newly-founded LIV Golf continues to pluck talent from PGA Tour. The latest to join the lucrative tour is four-time major winner Brooks Koepka.

Koepka switching from PGA Tour to LIV Golf is yet to be announced, but multiple reports say the official confirmation should come by the end of the week. In the meantime, the 32-year-old has canceled his appearance at the upcoming Travelers Championship.

Koepka is expected to make his first LIV Golf appearance in late June at Portland, Oregon’s Pumpkin Ridge. He should play alongside his younger brother Chase, who also left PGA Tour recently.

Besides the Koepka brothers, LIV Golf’s roster features a number of other big names, including Dustin Johnson, Phil Mickelson, Bryson DeChambeau, and Patrick Reed. The tour is in its inaugural season and has already wrapped its first event in London, which saw a win from Charl Schwartzel.

Brooks Koepka previously spent 47 weeks as the world’s No. 1 golfer. He has 15 wins as a professional, including two U.S. Open championships and two PGA Championship trophies. However, things haven’t been smooth for Koepka in 2022, as his best result is 55th place at U.S. Open. He is currently ranked as the no. 18 player in the world.

The return to golf after the pandemic hasn’t been going particularly well for 2018’s PGA Tour Player of the Year Brooks Koepka. This was especially the case over the weekend, with Koepka finishing a disappointing 2020 Memorial Tournament campaign on 62nd place.

As it turns out, one of the reasons for Koepka’s struggles was that he’s still dealing with a nagging knee injury that caused him to miss the last three months of 2019. The 30-year-old golfer underwent an MRI over the weekend and the test revealed no improvement since October.

“Just wanted to check on it, see where it’s at,” said Koepka. “We got the results right after Korea, and then we just wanted to check, and nothing is improved. It’s still the same. So we’ll figure it out when we’re done.”

Koepka’s final round at Memorial led him to have the second-worst 18-hole score since turning pro.

Despite poor performances in 2020, Brooks Koepka still intends to play several tournaments in the next three weeks including the PGA Championship.

“You’ve got to play your way into it,” he added Koepka. “When you don’t have the results you want, you’ve got to go out here and find it.”

Since 2017, Koepka won two U.S. Opens and two PGA Championships. He was also second at Masters Tournament and tied for fourth at The Open Championship in 2019.

Brooks Koepka received another recognition for the phenomenal season he had and was named the PGA Tour Player of the Year for 2017-18. This comes after Koepka won two majors and finished in ninth place in the FedExCup, which was his career-best. The 28-year-old American also had four additional top-10 finishes.

Other finalists for the PGA Tour Player of the Year honor were Francesco Molinari, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Justin Rose, and Bryson DeChambeau.

On behalf of the PGA TOUR, our congratulations to Brooks Koepka on being voted PGA TOUR Player of the Year by his peers,” – said PGA Tour commissioner Jay Monahan in a statement. “Brooks has brought a new brand of athleticism to the PGA TOUR, and we saw the results this year with his historic season at the major championships and a top-10 finish in the FedExCup. These feats were accomplished despite missing significant time due to injury, a testament to his work ethic and perseverance throughout the season.

Brooks Koepka managed to win his second consecutive U.S. Open in June 2018, while winning PGA Championship in two months later. By doing so, he became the first golfer since 2000 and Tiger Woods to win both of these majors in the same year.
