With Kyrie Irving and Kevin Durant both out for this NBA season, Brooklyn Nets are reportedly already making plans for the 2020/21. Reportedly, this includes trying to land a third star player by giving up some of their young talent.

The 2019/20 NBA season saw championship-contending teams abandoning the “Big Three” concept and reverting to having superstar duos surrounded by quality role players. Nets certainly fall in this category with Irving and Durant, but it looks like the team doesn’t believe this will be enough to get them to the top.

ESPN’s Brian Windhorst reports that Brooklyn has been exploring the market since the start of the year and wouldn’t mind parting with “some of their young talent to acquire a third star along Irving and Durant.” It is still unclear which players would be available, but Nets certainly don’t lack talent.

With Durant out and Irving being limited to just 20 games this season, players like Spencer Dinwiddie, Caris LeVert, and Jarrett Allen stepped up big time for the Nets. Dinwiddie established himself as a borderline All-Star player, averaging 20.6 points per game while LeVert also took a huge jump by contributing with 17.7 points, 4.1 assists, and 4.1 rebounds per game. Allen also continued to grow as a player and even pushed DeAndre Jordan out of the starting lineup.

While all three players have a bright future in the NBA, their timeline might not be aligned with the one of Irving and Durant. Having two bonafide superstars in their prime means Brooklyn needs to be in the win-now mode and do everything it takes to get to the next level. So, expect the Nets to look a bit different, and probably scarier, when the next NBA season tips off.

The Brooklyn Nets took the NBA world by storm on Sunday after coming to deals with three of the most coveted free agents on the market this offseason.

The Nets have reportedly come to agreements to sign forward Kevin Durant, guard Kyrie Irving, and center DeAndre Jordan, making Brooklyn the center of attention throughout the NBA.

Durant will join the Nets after being one of the NBA’s brightest stars over the past decade. The high-scoring shooter won the MVP Award in 2014, has won two NBA Championships and two NBA Finals MVPs, and will become a crucial piece for the Nets once his Achilles tear has healed.

Irving, for his part, is a six-time NBA All-Star who won a championship with the Cleveland Cavaliers back in 2016. A former #1 overall pick, he has averaged 22.2 points per game in his NBA career on 46% shooting. He was one of the most coveted free agents on the market this year and for good reason.

Finally, the third edition of the Nets’ new “Big 3” is DeAndre Jordan. One of the most quality centers in the league and a veteran at 30 years old, he has averaged double-digit rebounds for the past six seasons and is also considered an elite defensive centers.

The Nets’ new additions will propel them towards being one of the favorites in what is shaping up to be a highly competitive Eastern Conference next season.

Just when you thought the things got silent on NBA market, Philadelphia 76ers and Brooklyn Nets decided to shake things up. The 76ers have traded center Jahlil Okafor, guard Nik Stauskas and a 2019 second-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets in exchange for power forward Trevor Booker.

The third overall pick in the 2015 NBA Draft Jahlil Okafor fell out of favor with the 76ers this season, playing in just two games this season. With the emergence of star center Joel Embiid in Philadelphia, Okafor first lost his place in the team’s starting lineup and then in the rotation as well. Recently, the player and his agent asked the team to trade him or to try and reach a buyout agreement. Okafor played in 105 games for the 76ers and averaged 14.6 points, 5.9 rebounds and 1.2 assists per game.

In Stauskas, the Nets received another former lottery draft pick, since he was drafted eighth overall in the 2014 NBA draft. The team hopes that the two players can reach their full potential in Brooklyn and play an important part in the new system the Nets are building.

This trade provides us with a good opportunity to bring in two young players who were high picks in recent drafts and give them a chance to succeed in our system,” – said Nets general manager Sean Marks in a statement.

Finally, Philadelphia 76ers acquired a veteran forward in Booker, who will be able to provide leadership to their young core. He was drafted by the Minnesota Timberwolves with the 23rd overall pick in the 2010 NBA draft and traded to Washington Wizards on the draft night. After spending four years in Washington, mostly as a bench player, Booker signed with the Utah Jazz before coming to Brooklyn in 2016. Last season he averaged 10.0 points, 8.0 rebounds, and 1.9 assists per game, all career highs.
